Big Bear Yellow Post Camp Sites
« on: August 20, 2012, 09:28:46 PM »
FishPOET of myjeeprocks.com prepared this list of Big Bear yellow post sites.  SCCX and myjeeprocks went on a joint run in the Big Bear area a few years ago.  I added a link to the large maps since the images are cut off.

http://sccx.smugmug.com/Other/Maps/i-6wGdR2H/0/O/BigBearSouthYP.jpg

8 person max. 14 day stay max. First come first serve. No fee. Adventure pass required. No water. No bathrooms. Currently no campfires allowed.

A 4x4 pulling a pop up trailer would make it without much problem to most of the YP sites in Big Bear. The term RV refers to Motor homes, Travel Trailers and Toy Haulers.

Yellow Post 25

YP25 is located on 2N44Y at N34' 13.363 W116' 56.449.

Lots of shade all day long. A small creek is flowing near camp. Room for 2 tents.

Currently there is not a table or fire ring. There is a hiking trail that cuts right through the campsite. Not recommended for RV's by the USFS.  The creek may attract a lot of bugs.

Yellow Post 26

YP26 is located on 2N52Y at N34' 13.027 W116' 56.694

Wide open area. Down a spur road (less traffic). Can fit 4 tents and vehicles or an RV.
Not much shade.

Yellow Post 27

YP27 is located on 2N10D at N34' 12.896 W116' 57.359

Lots of shade. A small creek is flowing near camp. Down a spur road. Room for a couple of vehicles and tents.
Low profile cars will not make it all the way to camp. No RV's

Yellow Post 28

YP28 is located on 2N11 at N34' 12.805 W116' 58.783

Large area for parking. Room for 4 tents. Down a spur road.
Some shade. Not RV friendly.

Yellow Post 29

YP29 is located on 2N11 at N34' 12.950 W116' 58.650

Some shade. Room for 3 vehicles. Down a spur road.
Not much flat space for tents. Not RV friendly.

Yellow Post 30

YP30 is located on 2N86 at N34' 13.950 W116' 58.805

Lots of shade. Lots of parking. Room for 6 tents. Down a spur road.
Not RV friendly. This is the YP site that was ransacked by a bear a few years ago.

Yellow Post 2

YP2 is located on 2N80 at N34' 16.616 W116' 58.094

RV friendly. Huge open area. Large enough for 6 tents and vehicles.
Not much shade. Near a busy forest road (2N13)

Yellow Post 3

YP3 is located on 2N01X.

Down a spur road.

Yellow Post 4

YP4 is located on 2N68 at N34' 16.498 W116' 58.964

Room for 2 vehicles and tents. Some shade.
Not RV friendly

Yellow Post 5

YP5 is located on 2N84A at N34' 17. 579 W116' 57.652

Room for 6 tents and vehicles. Some shade. Small RVs could make it. Down a spur road.

Yellow Post 6

YP6 is located on 3N97D at N34' 18.566 W117' 00.348

YP6 is a LARGE site. RV firendly. Some shade. Room for 8 or more vehicles.
Close to the green sticker trails. Probably the most used YP site in Big Bear.

Yellow Post 7

YP7 is located on 3N14G at N34' 19.132 W117' 00.363

RV friendly (although not a lot of flat area). Room for 6 vehicles and tents. Down a short spur road.

Not much shade. Close to the green sticker trails.

Oh this is too funny.  FishPoet is a friend of mine and that's me in my old 4runner in all of those photos.  We hid a bunch of geocaches that day too.
This isn't Santa's Workshop.  This place smells like mushrooms and everyone looks like they want to hurt me.

Small world eh Max??  Cool pics of you...that must be the famed "91 4-Runner" that you ran Gold Mountain in??  ;) :D

Marshann...excellent post about camp sites in Big Bear.  This is exactly the kind of content we need to help new members as well as "seasoned veterans" navigate and negotiate into new areas.

Very cool post!  ;D

Great post, sounds like it could be bunches of fun...except for the part about bugs, I don't like bugs....especially if they're on bears.

Thanks RockinX for making this post on YP# Camp Sites.  And thanks to FishPOET of myjeeprocks.com and MaxPower for the orignal leg work.  I just spent a weekend camping up in the Big Bear area with a bunch of fellow Frontys from over on ClubFrontier.org and I'm going to go back up there often.  YP camping looks like the best bang for the buck (free; once adventure pass is purchased).

Thanks again to ALL!

Hey Mark, saw some of the JeniorNV posts over on CF.  Looks like you had a good group and a nice run.  Hope you can make another SCCX run soon too.  :)

John, we had a great time.  The weather was dicey at times for those that did the Gold Mtn run.  The camping was great and the trails were a great mix for 2x and 4x alike.  I've got to do some planned maintenance on the truck (30K Check-Up, shock repair and maybe new mounts) I've got my eyes on that late Sept Big Bear SCCX run! (If you've got room for some Frontys)

Always room for some pick'em'up trucks...the more the merrier.  Besides, we need another staff photographer!  ;)
