Joshua Tree Jan 2009

What a wonderful trip. The weather couldn't have been any better, nice mid-70's in the daytime with lots of sunshine. Come evening it dropped down to shirt sleeve weather ( ;) until about 8 PM when a jacket was needed). Just a lick of wind over night with crystal clear skies. The USMC provided a bit of thunder (artillery likely) from 29 palms.

Five trucks attended the run Saturday morning.

The club pitches in and helps the young ranger who ripped a sidewall open. He had come by and chatted with us for about ten minutes during our lunch break. I get nervous because it always seems they're interrogating us.

A rare look inside my truck. Poor Trixie was worn out by this point.

There had been a tiny bit of rain from what the ranger told us and the views were great with the clean air and no wind.

That night Justin and Natasha joined Noon and I for some Korean barbecue. The following morning the light was just beautiful and I took some pictures of the Brooklyn Mine ruins. It looks like this mining area has been worked for like 100 years.

A couple of trucks were abandoned around the mine site. This one got high centered and seriously stuck. Looks like it needed the black and white treatment.

This guy was a bit older and while looking around it I found a Geo-Stash stuffed under the still functional hood.

Great pictures and commentary Paul.  Looks like a good time. Sorry to hear that the rangers were shadowing you (again). I wonder if they all speak to each other or something. Did you veer off the trail for a bit at some point?   ;D

Was it just the two trucks camping?  Sounds like you camped in the north area, where we were in November of 2006. If so, that's a pretty nice area.  BTW, according to my book Mines of High Desert, the Brooklyn Mine was discovered in 1890.

We'll have to do a separate Bradshaw Run in a month or so, like the one we did in early 2007. The distances are really too great to combine with JTNP, given the short daylight hours.

Awesome pics Paul!

Natasha and I greatly enjoyed your company, your stimulating conversation and the tasty treats.

Thanks again to Noon for making the perfect fire pit!

We both hope to see you guys soon on a future run.
