Shows my point of view on truck camping perfectly. I looked at the jeeps for playing with but there's just not enough room in them to do it right. Camping out of a jeep for more than a night is next to impossible.

Good video.  That's exactly what I love about the camping we do.  We aren't camped in a parking lot next to RV's.

John, Very cool video. Thanks for pointing it out.  Last weekends mini-excursion reminded me of the pleasures of a campfire..

btw: I have discovered some new (to me) camp sites and primitive Camping up around Big Bear.  It's going to take a little time for me to convert from a Backpacking mentality but the vehicles allow so much more flexibility..  I really like the concept of mod aggressive offroading to a camp site with good hiking . .  then hiking to fatigue, to prepare a gourmet meal.. some booze.. we should organize a run soon..

That sounds like an awesome idea. Before getting busy with college, I used to backpack a fair amount. If we could drive to campsites that are more remote then usual, then hike out from there, I bet it's possible to see a lot of areas that have rarely been visited. I might be working in Running Springs during the summer again, so there's a good chance I could make it.

Well, I am starting to formulate an idea for a run.  Heck, I would even lead it though I'd prefer to have driven a run at least once before..  perhaps a recon mission 1st, then report back, organize and lead a run.

I've assertained that since certain Big Bear Sites are 'first come first serve' there might be variability in destination, requiring flexibility of those attending ..

They are called yellow post sites.  They can fill up pretty quickly during the summer.  It's usually best to go up mid day on a Friday to guarantee a spot.  The Heartbar area has a lot of them and it's a cool starting point to do runs on the east side of the mountain.

Cool, perhaps we could even start Friday earlier AM....  Any Idea how many at a Yellow Post Site?

I've then heard there are areas to wilderness camp if those fill but not everyone likes that much roughing it I suppose..

Absolutely agree with you, Paul.  I love my '03 TJ Rubicon and it is hard to beat for what it does best but that ain't performing as an expedition/excursion vehicle.  Of all the rigs I looked at when it came time to make an addition to the stable, the Xterra Off Road smoked everything else, hands down.  Damn near as competent as a stock Rubicon and way more bang for the buck when priced against it's advertised competition, the 'X' is a sweet, sweet rig.  So far my Rubi and the 'X' have cohabited nicely with no garage wars to note and they compliment each other extremely well.  I'm living proof that one can have a passion for more than one vehicle.
