Big Bear Aug 2009 (now with video!)
« on: August 24, 2009, 10:00:23 PM »
Aug 2009 Big Bear Area - not much to see on the Radford Trail but Gold Mountain was exciting as usual and did not disappoint. About a mile or so off the pavement there's a nice challenge.

John (Sturmdog) along with is new bride and their daughter Kennedy. You can sort of read the difference in their body language and John puts the truck light on the passenger side.

More pictures to follow. I also shot about 10 minutes worth of video using a magnet mount "extreme" camera and the video came out pretty good for the climb up that first second of Gold Mountain. First I had it attached to John's front bumper and on mine it was attached to my slider bar extension.

I remember that section in Gold Mountain--gnarly but definitely worth the trek! That shot of the BBQ made my stomach speak to me in dirty French... looks very tasty! Thanks for sharing Paul! Can't wait to see the rest and the video!
Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst!

There wasn't a moon out Saturday night and the skies were very clear.

Great pictures Paul, thanks for sharing. :)

I took a few with my crappy cell phone but this is the only one that came out ok.  I need a new camera badly.

Nice shots as usual Paul. You must have a really wide monitor, and size the pics really wide, because I can never see the whole width of your pics on my Mac, and it's even worse on the 19" PC monitor I have at work, since it's even more square than the Mac. I have to scroll down to the last one in the group, then across and go back up to see the other side of each one.

I've got twin 19's but the photos are 1024x768 which is standard for a 17" monitor's desktop size.

I guess the problem is that the pics don't show as full screen because of the panel on the left of the website. Even if I change my display to 1024x768 I still can't see the whole width of the pic, and still need to scroll across, which on this site you can't do until you first scroll down to the end of the stack of pics. Right now my monitor is set to 1152x720, anything else distorts the text.

So glad to be a part of a club whose passion for the Xterra and the outdoors is just as much as their passion for photography. I really miss being out there!

Brian #2! Nice job on the lunch pic!

Great pictures Paul. How did the video turn out ?

The on-the-truck videos came out wicked good. What I also needed was some pictures of other trucks climbing the same spot to show the trail action from the "outside" so that I could edit back and forth. That plan failed when I had to take my dog back to the truck to let Noon watch the next six trucks climb that section of the trail.

I'm not even sure why she forced me to walk the half a mile down the trail with the dog in the first place.  ::)

Next time I'll bring a tripod and "work" the shoot harder. The video from the bumper mounted camera is wicked and is a great point-of-view angle.
