X2 on the Photobucket Terry, makes photo transfers easy breezy.

New pics of my rig added
-
Nice pics Terry. :)
-
Thank you John. I finally figured out how to resize the pictures. Hopefully I can get some more action pictures at GoneMoab ;D
-
Wow bro, that's a sick rig!! Your mods list is my dream list.
-
How did the front locker work in Moab, and Big Bear last weekend?
-
They worked GREAT. I'll tell you with the limited clearance of the X in the "rock gardens" I would have been strapped probably 3-4 times without the front lockers. Actually with the lockers I did the strappin' several times.

Well Terry, it's official, you and your "X-terra, not a Jeep" are "very capable and trail worthy." Will we never hear the end of this... :D

We had 11 vehicles join in for my run to the Holcolm Creek Jeep Trail. There were 10 jeeps and a X-Terra(not a jeep)on the run. Terry and his X-Terra proved to be very capable and trail worthy. The trail head started out of Fawnskin on the north side of the lake. The forest road 3N14 connected us to 3N93 at the east end of Holcolm Creek. The trail has a dozen difficult obstacals, mostly one rock garden after another spread over 20 miles of super fun 4 wheeling terrain. After the last long rock garden ended at 3N16 half the group exited thru to Hwy 18 and home. Six rigs continued on to make trail a loop.We cut across on 2N06X (Lower Larga Flat)back to Holcolm Trail and headed east back to Fawnskin and camp. The days run had assisted strap pulls, winch recovery because of a broken front axle, and rock stacking over obstacals. Everyone worked together and had a great day of wheeling in beautiful Big Bear mountains back country.
Thanks to everyone for a super fun day, Mark
Looks like you had a good showing, glad the lockers worked out. :)

Hm. Nothing gets by you John.. You saw that little trip report. That was a real trip, first time I have run with that group and it was really interesting to see their reaction when I came rolling in. And how many had to walk over to take a look at the X before we ever set out for the trail. BTW those strap pulls he mentioned??? ME doing the pulling on most of them. :D

Did you go out on the second run with only 6 vehicles? Yes...an "X-terra" strapping Jeep folks...now there's a photo op for sure.

Yup... I wouldn't have missed that for the world. Hmm. Maybe by then I got to the point where I was one of the rigs. Hey, he didn't say "5 rigs and the Xterra" ;D. But I have to say that I really liked Mark and would roll with him any day, he did a hell of a job leading a tough trail.
That extra little loop actually added about 5-6 more major obstacles to the run. And I got to strap a jeep on the last obstacle of the day :P Poor guy picked the worst line that I have ever seen and he had already done that obstacle once already that day.
-
ME doing the pulling on most of them. :D
Awesome! Rig looks great Terry. Can't wait to see it after the future plans you told me about
-
Thanks Oz,
Just hope I can pull it off.

Are you looking at the Titan Swap Terry?
-
Nope first order of business is to get more clearance ;D So I'm looking at a 6" suspension lift and going to 35's next.
-
Just thought I would throw this in. Went to BB last weekend. I did John Bull and Pontiac Sluice. Yup found the Pontiac....

Wow, that looks so cool man! I want!
Is that AOE4x4 shop?
Now you have to explain what you did, TS/lift..both?
-
NO TITAN SWAP!!!! 6" Fabtec Suspension lift which included going spring over Axle in the rear. Thanks to Justin... I think I'm getting more than 6" of total lift.

Wow that looks nice!

That looks bad ass!!! Makes your tires look tiny. Time for some big fat knobbies :o

;D I'm thinking that too. And here I was wondering how much I was going to have to cut out the wheel wells for 35's.
-
Definitely get a nose bleed sitting in that rig.
Have you ever driven a vehicle that high? It's a real trip and it will take some getting use to if you haven't.
Be sure to watch out for mini's and Fiats, they feel like speed bumps. ;D

Terry...the pictures won't load as an image file directly from your DropBox account.
Creating a Photobucket account, then uploading the pictures there is a better method.
Then, access your Photobucket account and click on the image code in the box below the photo, and it will say "copied".
Then, paste the image in the "reply" box here with the image codes around it. That should help and make photo posting easeir for your in the future.

Which Fabtec kit is this? I'm only finding Frontier and Titan kits, do they have X kit? And who's Justin, a workshop you can recommend?
Did you get the ARB locker from RuggedRocks?

Which Fabtec kit is this? I'm only finding Frontier and Titan kits, do they have X kit? And who's Justin, a workshop you can recommend?
Did you get the ARB locker from RuggedRocks?
It is the Fabtec Frontier Lift kit. To my knowledge so far OZ, Mastagrog and myself have installed them. The front axle cross-members and such are bolt compatible between the X and Frontier. The difference is the Rear Axle. The X is spring under axle and the frontier is spring over axle. So Justin at AOE flipped my X to Spring Over Axle to get the added height. Had to weld new spring perches, relocated my lower shock mounts, kept my longer shackles and AAL from PRG and used the longer shocks from the Fabtech Kit in the rear. A word of warning!!! The driveshaft has to be lengthened... Don't waste your time if you aren't willing to go to JE REEL in Pomona and get a Double Cardon drive shaft fabricated by them. They have a lot of experience with lifted Xterra driveshafts.
My front ARB locker and compressor came from RuggedRocks. With regards to the front locker. Find a competent experienced well-referenced installer. Lockers have not been installed in the R180 for very long and it takes real skill to get it right. I can give you an option if you want

And it only took 3 months..
You tired of driving that beater and riding shotgun everywhere?

Who installed your front locker?
-
4-wheel parts in Redondo Beach. They have an installer there by the name of Adolph who is a real master. Matter of fact he was the one that fixed Steve's(usko99) problems with his install on his rear axle.
-
I'm pretty sure that guy also won they 4WP mechanic challenge they had not too long ago. Apparently the best guy for diff work at 4WP.

Absolutely correct Nick. Plus he is a great guy. He explained to me everything he was doing. I was very very impressed by his work.

Was up picking up some parts and snapped a few shots of the Xterra on the lift.
-
Are these current? Think it'll be ready by next week?
-
Taken yesterday. My understanding is they are waiting for new extended (seriously extended) coilovers.
Terry has the full scoop.
-
Right notice no brackets on the LCA. That is where we are.
Oh and thank you John for snapping those pictures
-
Yep...I managed to smuggle out my pocket camera under the watchful eye of the AOE security forces. ;)
-
I noticed the lack of beautifly crafted worthless shock mount. Tack another $1000+ and a week to the project. Cant even make some money back on your old coilovers. I hope they make things right......where it count$.
-
The good news is that his X will be soon back in his hands.
Def a subject for campfire analysis.

Danny, tack about 5 weeks onto that "$1000 + a week" to the project. Lest we forget the 900 lb coilovers, I had to buy because the "shock mount design" collapsed the 650 lb springs. And the amount I paid him to have my driveshaft lenghtened because I didn't need no JE Reel driveshaft. Oh and when they figured out that they couldn't keep the rig on the road then we needed to do something about the DS. Order DS from JE Reel wait 4 weeks to get it then get it installed just in time to break the coilover on the way back from the front end alignment.
And then to learn this entire debacle was my fault and I "told" them to do it that way just added a little salt to the wounds.

Thank you for that John I certainly hope so. Latest is Alex is waiting for Radflo to finish my coilovers and was then going to run up and get them. So I hope it will be sooner than later.
-
Well as of 3:00 PM. Alex called me and told me that the coilovers will not be done before Monday Noon. So one more weekend without...... >:( ???
-
So no chance to test her out before hitting the black trails in BB? And I thought your hill climb was ballsy. I hope that word is PC enough, especially since we have child boards on this site. :D
-
I was thinking the same thing...Green trails for you. Dont worry, there'll be experienced spotters there if you need them.
-
Why thank you Danny :D Green Runs??? Whatever shall I do?
Well I promise you. IF I get my truck back in time I will Pre-run something before Saturday!!!! Even if I run up to the first obstacle of Cleghorn for a little afternoon romp.... I need to see what it does before I commit to trail leading anything.
But believe it or not I'm confident that I finally have a winner combination ....

I'm sorry John, but I don't understand this post.
Well...I don't have anything nice to say right now about AOE..., so I'm not saying anything ________________...and Forrest Gump always says, "...and that's all I have to say about that."
Sorry, sometimes my sense of humor resides in the 4th dimension.

That means I'm not saying anything either... >:(

Well I'm pleased to announce that I think I'm done with the lift ;D
Two months later, a lot of aggravation and lots and lots of money but I made it.
To those that havn't seen it here are a couple of pics. (Actually I think she cleans up kind of nice after a BB Xcursion)
P.S. Fixed my transfer case leak. It appears JE Reel forgot to insert a freeze plug in the front yoke so ATF could just kind of splash out of the transfer case any time I was going to fast or at any strange angle.

Spent Friday fixing AOE's F-ups! Yeah I said it...
Now you'll have your turn radius back, your shocks will compress at the right angle and your brake calipers won't, randomly, fall off and lock your brakes.
-
Yeah Danny and I will always be indebted to you for that... When did you take that? I was so engrossed I guess... BTW all Notice I bring plenty of beer to the party ;D ;)
-
Just added today.
Projection HID Headlights. Pictures to come.
-
Just saw your pics of the AOE repair...wow man, so sorry for all the front end/back end issues you have had with them.
A real shame...maybe they should stick to sliders and skid plates.
-
I agree they got in over their heads with Terry's suspension.
They're skids are spot on, thanks to GhostX.
They're sliders need a little work. About two inches of more protection on either side would suffice. Maybe a bolt on option. They're working on both.
But in my opinion, Alex nailed the bumper. Tons of clearance (more than any other bumper on the market), side protection (no other bumper has this), easy access to the winch, and slick lines (no significant gap between the body and the bumper)
They haven't been fun to deal with so far, but they're trying. Growing pains are never fun. I realize they have dug themselves a bit of a hole with the So Cal Xterra community. Maybe they can dig themselves out it.

Fill dirt = a donated pair of Gen II sliders for goneMOAB in 2013.
Would be a nice gesture after all the customer service "growing pains" AND a great marketing opportunity for Alex.
-
I personally don't feel that is NEAR enough fill dirt for what this has cost me. If I factor in my near death experiences, he should be including more than that....

Thanks Chris that's awesome
-
Well I should provide a current "state of my X" statemet after last weekend's outing.
The weekend started out great arriving at the Superstition Mountain area early afternoon. We played in the sand and did some moderate rock crawling that afternoon.
Then Saturday came and I signed up for the Wishbone run described as a RUN RATING: 4+ on a scale of 1-4 by the hard core wheelers I was with. The run started out great lots of deep sand then we started to ascend this gulley (I might have been 20' wide at the widest). During this ascent while I was attempting to put my rig on a four foot ledge it appears that I simultaneously broke the shaft of my coilover shock on the drivers side and "broke" the passenger side front axle.
The next two hours were spent by the San Dieog 4 wheelers Recovery Crew from the event getting me and my rig OUT of this gulley. It took numerous winchings from me and rigs both above and below to get it turned around, headed downhill and out of the gulley. Then another two hours to get back to the campsite doing an end around Superstition Mountain.
Then this recovery crew really kicked into action. We worked into the night and removed the remaing parts of the coilover and welded the shaft of the shock, re-assembled the coilover and got me back on 4 wheels.
Then Sunday was dedicated to getting home. 200 miles at a very slow pace (I didn't know if the weld would hold or if the front axle would lock up due to possibility of pieces floating around in the diff or axle.
So I got home by about 8:00 PM Sunday.
Let the repairs begin.
-
That is nuts Terry...glad nothing too severe happened...just a broken part...
Please update with what you fix it with and how!
Thanks :)
-
At this time I have removed the coilover and taken it to Radflo. They are taking two days to re-build the coilover, which includes replacement of the shock shaft. When I get this back, I will re-install the coilover. Then at least I will be able to drive it.
Next step will be to replace the front passenger axle shaft and seal(I can move it back and forth appro. 1/2 inch. right now) Hopefully that is all I broke.
Then if that doesn't do it, I am going to have to drop the diff and open it up to see if there is any internal breakage. If there is, then who knows where I go from there.
-
Terry - you should save yourself the time of installing the coilover and half axle twice.
Drop the diff now and see if there is an issue now.
Also - make sure you talk to Radflo about your "inverted" coilovers and what the deal is there.
Good luck. :)

John,
I have had to take care of this in phases. Because I knew that the coilover would be gone for a while I had to park it someplace that I could get to the drivers side and leave it there for several days. I accomplished this by backing my X into my garage leaving the drivers side exposed and at the moment I can't get to the passenger side. So phase one was get the coilover replaced. Next was attack the rest of the problem. One thing I know absolutely is I broke the passenger side axle. So once I get the coilover installed and can move the X then I will start tearing things apart and I think it will be a very good idea to get the diff at least in a position that I can get the cover off and look inside to "see what falls out".
That is my plan.
Oh yes I had already talked to Radflo and the coilovers were installed correctly... Threads down. He told me that these particular Coilovers are reverse.
-
Interesting on the coil overs. Next time we see each other I am curious to find out what Glenn had to say on this topic.

Well a Saturday morning update of the travails of Terry:
This is a picture of what was left of my coilover:

Note: The bent Shock body and the welded shock shaft.
KUDOS TO: RADFLO for piecing together a bent broken Coilover( The complemented the welding job and admitted they had never seen anything quite like that)
Russ and Mike (The recovery crew from San Diego 4Wheelers) who got me out of a very tenuous situation (In a 20 foot wide waterfall can't go
forward, backward or turn around on my own) and performed the surgery on the coilover to get me home.
And this is a picture of the diff end of the passenger CV half shaft:
This is actually what it supposed to look like minus the popsicle stick:
NOTE: The little popsicle looking thing is the end of the CV Shaft that was stuck in the axle.
KUDOS TO: Once he stopped laughing ;) ;D My friend Toro his creativity, ingenuity and willingness to hang in there to the bitter end made all
this happen.
And to Dan826 who offered up his R180 CV shafts.
I guess bottom line my X is operational again at least highway-wise. I'm going to get out somewhere soon to make sure the 4 wheel drive and lockers work but we are really confident that every thing is back to whatever state of abnormalcy :P that I represent.
Thanks again to everybody who helped get me through this ordeal.

Interesting note...looks like the half axles blow before a locked R180?

Great observation John.
-
This was what I had hoped for. A failure would occur at the cheapest and easiest to replace part of the front end. As long as your not a throttle jockey, the locked R180 is pretty stout.

Well I guess I should check in and report on the old Money Pit today.
Yesterday I pulled my rear wheels to check my parking brake shoes and see if I can figure out my X's rakish lean to the drivers side. So what did I find? A broken spring!!!! So I guess it is off to the leaf spring store to see what I can come up with to create a stronger combination than I currently have. Actually I'm thinking of just putting the OEM springs back in complete with the straight fourth spring. With this Spring over Axle setup I don't need lift but do need strength to prevent spring wrap.
Ok so today I roll to the gas station cause my low fuel indicator lamp is on. Fill er up. As I'm leaving the gas station... Hm my low fuel indicator lamp is still on and my fuel gauge reads empty. I'm guessing that is the Fuel sending unit. It is throwing no codes.
-
Terry...you should call Chris Meisner at Nisstec Lifts about a set of Alcans.
Also, there is an FSU write up on TNX, just plug FSU into the search area.
Hang in there buddy...still cheaper than a Heep!!
-
Contact North County Spring in Escondido. About 800 bucks for the set, but built on site to your specs with no wait time....

Is that Installed or Cash and Carry? Do you know? $800 installed wouldn't be a bad price if it is done with no wait time..
-
He quoted me 800 installed. Spring pack made to your specs while you wait....very close to Stone Brewery by the way. A great place to pass some time...
-
I just talked to Tony at North County Spring and he quoted me $1300-1400 installed :o

Somethings are best done in person... ???
Correct you are. Actually because of logistics I ran down to Deaver in Santa Ana. What a cool knowledgable group they are. And I placed an order for two leaf packs.
And it comes to pass that AOE strikes again. It seems that the rear end was a touch high or something, so "someone" removed a leaf from both leaf packs.... Voila.. Ultra spring wrap and consequent spring break. And god knows what else is lurking until I get this fixed...
BTW, did some purple gremlin sneak in and fix my FSU? ;D When I drove my X down to Deaver today my fuel gauge worked perfectly... Hmm. Does that mean anything to anybody? I threw a code and all last night too.
-
Decided to finish her off today.

getting good at pulling chunks out of diffs.
-
Well I guess two for two.... Is that supposed to be a good average?? :o >:(
-
Well Dan as you said we should be getting good at this by now.
-
Maybe I should 'spain the happenings of last Saturday.
Well Danny, his son Matt and I ran up to San Gabriel OHV Area just to "mildly" exercise my X in anticipation of other things to come.
Things went great on the way up there. Tried out my new Ham radio ;D
Got there, paid our fee, aired down, and headed out. Well first obstacle, Danny made it with some effort, so of course I had to try it too. I started up this maybe 20' dirt/rock hill. Almost to the top I got hung up between two rocks and tried to apply a little power to get over. When all of sudden, the instantaneously recognizable horrifying PING from the Drivers front side. Yes I had just broken the half shaft on the drivers side (Passenger side was taken care of by Superstition mountain). Well that ended my day immediately.
So OFCOURSE Danny says I got a spare half shaft lets run over to my place and replace it. Well I limped over to Danny's house hearing all kinds of strange sounds coming from my front end. And in 15 minutes the left front was off the ground and what was left of the half shaft out. At least we were equipped this time(Unlike the first time) I had packed a drill bit, the right sized die and a grade 8 bolt for extraction. And thanks to Danny and his Slide Hammer we got the broken piece out of the diff (See photograph above). After getting the thing out, if you looked closely at the stub you can see two major cracks in the axle and I think that I actually broke both half shafts at Superstion Mountain. The drivers side just didn't break completely. That answers both the questions of two cracks and why did it break so easily today.
Well now the learning point. If you break the halfshaft like this and drive the rig someplace, plan on destroying the axle seal in the diff. Now the punchline, Nissan and Ebay are the only source of these seals (Left pn: 38342-EA000 and Right pn: 40227-EA00).
So our options where:
1. Try to find the parts locally. No way..
2: When I had broken the Passenger side axle, I had ordered both seals just for insurance (Why? don't know) but it was at my house 40 miles away.
3: Stick a rag in the diff hole, put the thing back together sans axle limp it home and repair it there.
Well again, thanks to Danny, he offered up his DD (I wouldn't let me drive his X either :P) and I drove home picked up my extra seal and extra Half shaft. And 20 minutes after I returned we had this thing back together good as new.
Moral of this story:
If you are going to do anything like this carry tools and spare parts or be with a buddy that does ;)
Anybody know where I can pick up some used OEM R180 half shafts? Of all the people I appear to be the person most in need spares
Bottom line: I would like to thank Toro/Danny for everything he did for me.

I sent you a PM a few days ago about my R180 half shafts. Lemme know.
-
For a minute there I thought the half-shafts I sold you were bad or something. I'm definitely gonna by a pair of half shafts to take to Moab. At $40/piece from rockauto it seems like good insurance. I even have a set of extra seals that I never used when doing the t-swap.
So can you drive without your half-axles on? Does it put any strain on the wheel hubs or bearings?
-
So can you drive without your half-axles on? Does it put any strain on the wheel hubs or bearings?
You can drive with out the axels. You do need to somehow plug the hole left on your diff though. The wheel bearings are bolted to the hub but the inner race is pressed into the outer housing. Things should be fine but there is an off, and very unlikly, chance those can come apart and find yourself in deep soy sauce.

No Dan it was your half shafts that saved me the first time and let Danny keep his spare the second time. Thanks again for that.
I don't know I just have a real problem (quality-wise) with a $40 probably re-build half-shaft.
BTW, when are you planning on getting to Moab in May?

I'm going to stop in Vegas Saturday night and hopefully make in time for the meet and greet on Sunday.
A lot of people on the forums using the Cardone Select half-shafts on their titan swap. The Cardone Selects are new, not remanned. Haven't heard too many complaints yet, but don't know how hard people have been wheelin' them. With the real thing form Nissan costing anywhere from $400-$500 a piece I can afford to have a few spares and pray for the best.
-
I agree completely.
-
Maybe I should 'spain the happenings of last Saturday.
Thanks for explaining what was up with the picture Terry. When I first saw it, I looked as closely as I could at it, but still ended up wondering what I was looking at. I mean, I know I was looking at a diff that had been opened up. And I tried to see if there was anything in there that didn't look like it belonged. But I hadn't a clue what it was suppose to look like. I decided you must have opened it up again just to look around to make sure there weren't any other stray pieces floating around. Too bad it turned out not to be as simple as that.
Nice job Danny helping out yet again! It should be a while before you have to buy your own beer again from all the help you have given/offered everyone.
-
Interesting that both half axles broke on the diff side.
I'll be curious to see how durable the new set is, and hopefully this is just a case of weak inner half axle stubs...not a recurring issue of the AOE 6" drop bracket install.
Danny...nice job helping out. ;D

Well I am alleging that I "broke" both sides at Superstition Mountain The driver's side axle while having a major crack didn't spin and break completely.
I also am praying that this NOT an issue with the suspension lift. I don't think so because the axles are not at any funny angle relative to a non suspension lifted truck.
But who knows maybe I need to get a trailer to carry along all my spare parts :P and tools (Actually already set to be able to swap an axle in the field if I absolutely need to).
-
Well todays update on the continuing saga of SoCalXTerry Build. Well I spent a good part of the day at Deaver Suspension in Santa Ana.
They took these out:
You will notice only 4 leafs and the fourth is broken. The other side was just as bent just not broken
And replaced with these:
Please note 10 leafs!!!!! Now that is a spring ;D
This cured my spring wrap and vibration problems that I was experiencing.
So I am happy. I think I am done replacing/fixing just about everything AOE did.

In this case I grenaded(As in pieces laying on the ground) the inner CV joint on the driver's side front half shaft.
My thanks go to:
Danny Grooters - He made sure to document the incident and that I left no parts behind ;D
The Guys from NISSTEC who convinced me that we had to swap out the half shaft on the trail. Which we did in approximately 30 minutes(We spent more time fixing the ABS cable than switching the half shaft. It is really neat when you break the CV joint no little stub to get out)
-
AGAIN???????? What do you do to these poor half-shafts?
-
Yup number 3. But this was different. I grenaded(as in blew parts through the rubber boot) the inner CV joint. Hey the splines were fine. Which made the fix pretty easy. Just pop out the old half shaft already in two pieces and install the new one...
-
I'm sensing a trend in locked R180's...weak link detected.

And it sure isn't the R180. I've been talking to Steevo about getting half shafts fabricated with much stronger cv joints. The locked R180 is definitely holding up to the challenge

It'll happen.

im wondering if your maxing out the cv joint angles causing the breaks, maybe limit straps are needed

Only problem is of the 5 breaks only 1 was a cv joint
Sent from someplace in the ether. now Free (http://'http://tapatalk.com/m?id=10')

yes but if the cv is binding from full droop, i wonder if thats the cause of the other 4 where the splines broke.

That Poison Spider run was a blast, you did a great job leading it. For sure going to do that one next year!
Nice Three Wheelie by the way, I need to check and see if I got that one on the Go-Pro or not.

Thanks Eric. I really appreciate that.

:o Good stuff Terry, that little oops looked pretty crazy.
It really was. The picture actually doesn't quite do it justice. You know how your butt tells you your going over. Maybe that comes when you realize you are standing on the brake pedal. That was the closest I think I have ever been to it. Problem was I had my poor daughter in their with me on her maiden Moab trail. I think it affected her quite a bit.
-
ouch... I'm sure you can get her back into it slowly.
I'm glad you guys are both physically alright.

Thank you for that Tom. No I got her right back in the saddle ;) We did Fins & Things that afternoon and Elephant Hill the next day.

Right back in the saddle is an understatement, Terry is being modest here guys. You should have seen him on Tip Over Challenge... that guy can wheel. Then of course not to be outdone his brother says "Well if he did it twice" and procedes to follow on up. Those guys are a hoot when they are together.

I wish I would've been there.

That whole trip from start to finsih was a blast, there is always next year!

You HAVE to go there at least once Tom. It is too fun for words.

It's on my list for sure.

DID you have to do anything special for the Fabtech lift, and did you have it professional installed of did you do it yourself.
-
DID you have to do anything special for the Fabtech lift, and did you have it professional installed of did you do it yourself.
There in lies a long story.
Too make it short:
Front is supposed to be bolt compatible across the board. Rear I had to go spring over Axle. So there is some fabrication involved. Move spring perch and lower shock mounts.
So with the fabrication involved decided to have a "professional" installer do the work.
Again long long story short it was screwed up royally. Many things done wrong. Even so far as rear leafs removed to make the back end of the truck lower.
If I were to do it again. I would probably do the front end myself. Because if you can follow directions it IS truly bolt compatible. And then find a welder to flip the spring over axle or buy a special leaf pack with the arc built in to give you the extra 6" of lift. But remember if you go 6 or more inches you NEED to replace the drive shaft. The OEM drive shaft will NOT handle it and because of the angles a Double Cardon drive shaft is preferable.
There my experience in a nutshell.
-
well I am just three inches, dont want do the blue crap.
-
Again long long story short it was screwed up royally.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Under statement of the month.

Two weeks ago, Pilot trail claimed a victim. Terry split his steering rack and poo-poo'd the trail.

Terry, they should really use your photos (or photos of your install) because the ones the have on the Nisstec site look not so awesome
Yours however, do look awesome!

Hi Chris,
do they fit a STOCK mount area?
Yes it takes some trimming from the rear wheel well about 1 1/2, I used an angle grinder to do it.
can they be ordered off of their web site?
Website???
His name is Corey Sain. "They can contact me at (704) 651-6871 or on my FB page InSain Fabrication"
how much?
His quote: "I'm looking to sell powder coated and shipped for $750. Thanks"

Those nice. I wonder how well it will take at hit.
What's the weight of it and how thick is the aluminum?
How's do they compare to ones I made?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk

Well I guess I will find out. That was what they wanted me to do.
Don't know the thickness exactly. I think it is 1/4"

Nice corners Terry...props to Nisstec for promoting and stocking a lot of Xterra aftermarket parts.

Dual batteries is one of the best thongs that someone can do to their rig for being out for days on end. Terry, have you considered a small solar battery maintainer as well?

Yes I have. Are you aware of any that are small enough but provide enough output?
-
Terry, can you give a little more info on the Odyssey battery and where you plan to mount to Optima?
-
Yes sir I'll try. The Odyssey is touted as the best battery you can buy on the forums. I do understand though that the Diehard Platinum from a number of sources is supposed to be the same battery as the PC1500. So it would be your choice, I suppose.
I have run an Optima Yellow top for about a year and a half now. I originally intended to put the Odyssey back where the spare tire was. Well the Odyssey is bigger and much heavier (Don't know if that translates to quality or not) than the Optima. So I decided to put the Odyssey up front (Had to do the old battery terminal extension mod it wasn't an R type) and put the Optima back as the secondary. It will work out much better I think lighter and smaller. But we shall see there is still some fabrication ahead.

Ah, thank you sir. I know my buddy Joseph (soulcontrol on here) has mounted two optimas in the back on each interior side of his frame. From what I understand, He used a fairly off the shelf battery box to mount them there. His are mounted sideways, terminals on each pointing towards the interior of the vehicle.
I'll ask him what he's using for mounting and maybe to snap a pic if you're interested.

Yea frontys have a ton of extra room under the bed, we are not as lucky.
-
Yes Steve I woukd be interested especially how and where he mounted it

We've got a pretty good amount of space with the spare tire removed, don't we?
Terry, I'll try to get a pic or two.

it doesn't take much to maintain a battery, you'll need a solar controller to not overcharge the battery.
Some of the guys at OAUSA have solar setups that are pretty sweet.

Wow Steve just had to revisit the issue. Please if you can get me some pics because I think I know what he did. I'll be he welded two lengths of angle between the frame rails and with cross support you could hang batteries, OBA. But if you could confirm I would really appreciate it

Working on it. Trying to get pics and details from soulcontrol. He's a busy hombre

Thanks Steve. I appreciate all your efforts.

Hey Terry, I just read your entire build up thread and I really couldn't believe how much work you put into your truck. That's quite impressive. Did you end up using RCV Performance axles?

Yes sir I installed the first pair of RCV Half Shafts for the R180 and have been a good proving ground for them. Tried to take them back to the Rubicon (where I broke two half shafts the first time) but a fire stopped me. But trust me I will get back soon to test these puppies out.

Thanks to my younger brother and Toro(Who so artfully built the battery box). I finally got my auxiliary battery installed. I think it worked out very well.
