Ocotillo Wells OHV has some interesting ranger lead tours (see http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=25635 for general info and their schedule is here: http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/pages/1170/files/OW-off-hwy-tour-schedule-2011_2011.pdf)
I had Friday off, so we did the Truckhaven Treasure tour.
We followed Coral Wash and Grave Wash. Amazing landscape; barren but striking.
There were 16 vehicles, 3 non-Jeeps.

We went through the arch

And stopped at Dusty.

Every now and then the rangers stopped for show and tell

To get from Coral Wash to Grave Wash we had to get up to the plateau, and then back down on the other side.

Ranger was kind enough to give instructions, bet their end of year performance appraisals depends on all vehicles getting out save.

We were done by 2pm, and decided to take the Cross Over Trail via Pumpkin Patch back to the 78.

I would recommend this, not only are the guys knowledgeable and eager to spread understanding and appreciation for the desert, but this is a great way for the community to support them and the work they are doing.

This looks very interesting. One of the Friday night tours in April would make for a fun Xcursion weekend.
-
I'm very interested too!

That looks like it was a fun time Hennie. You'll have to show me on a map where those trails are sometime.

This is cool, thanks for posting up the photos.

Someone took their burban with you guys?! lol talk about a comfy ride. I don't like to take mine (mostly because it's rare and I don't want to kill it; quadrasteer) but it takes all the fun out of offroading! ;D

haha..that guy turned around early, look at pic 3...he's missing. As soon as we reached the rocky area's he bailed.
Maybe if he had one of these: http://www.xxxtraction.com/images/press/snowburb1.jpg he'd stay?
The trail itself is probably between 2 and 2+ on the justruns.com trail rating scale, but the side washes would definitely be higher rated and more challenging for you guys. Maybe before the start of summer we should get a group out there, with my stock station wagon I'll stay on the main trail but would like to see some of you guys show what a good rig can do....some day, when I'm big I'd like to turn my station wagon into an awesome rig
