Greetings long lost wheelers,
A brainchild pulled out in front of me while I was going a solid 35 mph :o She was at a stop sign entering the intersection to the right of me and I had right of way with no stop. There were cars parked along the road up to the intersection blocking her view and rather than inch'n out to see if it was clear I guess she decided to roll the bones and go for it - well she didn't make it!!! I had very little chance to brake but luckily for us both, I turned slightly to the left or I would have T-Boned her right in the driver door. I have NO DOUBT that Shrock bumper and the right side recovery point at head level would have claimed her life :'( Impact was just in front of the driver door and took out her front clip (97 Tercel). Shrock bumper ripped thru her car; looked like a monster truck rode over the front. Me and the Boys [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] (18.5 year old Aussie Cattle Dog mix and 1 year old Tijuana rescue Shep/Hound mix) made it thru with no injury. So as :( as I am to lose Nelly, she can be replaced and I can build another wheeler - but the Boys can't be replaced! Shrock saved us!!! ;D We drove 1/4 mile home with a police escort but insurance is writing it off as a total loss. Shrock bumper didn't even break a weld but the bumper bent where it attaches to the frame horns and it all got pushed up. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] So please check out the Garage Sale for deals on 2000-04 Shrock armor, 265/75R16, and 265/70R16 tires. I would really like to have Nelly live on and wheel with another rig! ;D

Holy crap Tom! Glad you and the pups are ok.
Are you parting it out or just offloading the stuff you can remove?
-
Holy crap dude, I got scared when when I opened the pic of the dogs and thought you lost one of them. I am so happy to hear that everyone is okay. One of these days I am going to start a thread where we re-name our front bumpers and call them out newly installed crumple zones. This is the zone of my car that will crumple yours...haha. Clever and true :D

Wow so sorry to hear about your truck. Glad you and the pups are okay. I guess I need to just be glad that after almost 2 months in the body shop I'm hoping to get mine back soon after some jerk ran into it while parked.

Bobby I'm actually still negotiating the final settlement but I got permission to take off the mods. I was actually thinking of you for the SLR steering stuff but I don't have the tools or experience to remove that stuff so if you wanta bring down some tools and $150 the center link, pitman arm, idler arm, idler arm brace, and tie-rod sleeves??? (can't remember what they're called) are yours. I had new bearings put in the center link 2 years ago and also a new brass bushing put in the IA but that bushing is worn and I was getting ready to replace it but then CRASH/BANG so ...

Hell Bobby for you $100 and I'll supply the grilled feed and beer!

For Mitch it'll be $200 ;D
-
Appreciate the thought but I'm good there.
If it was getting parted out, I would've put dibs on the five speed and clutch/shifter stuff. ;D
-
Tom - glad to hear you and the doggies are okay. Sorry to hear about the truck.
I'm sure someone around here has a picture of it in better days, so that you can remember it as it was.
-
Very glad to hear that you and the dogs are ok :)
I know you put a lot into your X over the years and we had some great times. Shock rocks!
Due to my back problems and Family the Black Hawk SAS has been sitting almost unused of the last couple of years now. I'm actually considering selling it but would only do so to somebody I know and trust. With three vehicles: Land Cruiser, X, and my daily driver Altima I have a lot of dust collecting.
Take care and hope we get to wheel again sometime.

Dang, ridden hard and died too young.
I had a girl do the exact same thing at 45 mph when I was 18 years old. Four lane road with traffic in all four lanes. There were cars parked on my side of the road and I was driving due west into the setting sun when the girl in the compact car pulled out from the stop sign and blocked my lane of traffic. I got about 50 feet worth of rubber, my bumper dropping with the deceleration and my front bumper nailed her driver's door low near the frame. She wasn't wearing a seat belt and got shot to the other side of the car.
Good luck Tom, hope to see you on the trail again.
-
Oh wow. Glad you and the puppies are ok.
-
I'm sorry to hear about your catastophy Tom. I'm glad you're ok.
That being said, I wouldn't take your crappy old SLR steering if you gave me $250 dollars to take it.
How much for the bumper?

Mitch I was expecting so much more from you. You are definitely out of sync. Maybe it's all that yellow paint you've been huff'n!!! Put down the can! Call someone! Reach out for help! We're here for you! Just let us in ;D The bumper has some bends where it attaches to the frame horns and also the bottom/middle just below where the winch would sit got pushed up. I'll send you pictures and if you think you can straighten it out I would be pleased to have it live on your yellow submarine. We can talk $ if you're interested.
-
Mitch,
Email me your address and I'll send the pictures.

Sorry I disappointed you Tom. I'm really all busted up inside over it. Believe it or not, I was being nice since you just lost your baby.
That being said... it's a good thing the other car wasn't rock colored or you would have kept ramming it until you got over it.
She should have surrounded her car with cattle guards. You would have never have come close to her.
Was she at least hot?
RIP Nelly. You will be missed.

;D Now that's what I was expecting from Soylent Vomit!!! You got me crying and gasping for air from LMAO! Actually I think we did ram up and over her driver side fender and off the hood - the right side slider did have red paint along the underside of it :P If a technique works why change it :D Oh and the campsite babble will be missed as well.

+1 to you good sir :D
-
This doesn't have to be the end Tom. I'm sure your future truck will be just as capable. X or no X, you're still one of us. Poor bastard.
-
Think of this as an opportunity to buy a newer X and fix it up better than before. Just be a smart shopper about it. And before you know it, you'll be hitting the trails with us again.
