We talked about doing another Big Bear run yesterday, so I'd like to get the ball rolling.
Big Bear has a little something for everyone. From super easy fire roads, to extremely technical terrain.
We can camp, or make it a day trip. Either way, it'll be fun for all.
Helpful Equipment Hints for the Trail
- Working CB Radio
- Fire Extinguisher
- Appropriate jack - either stock or Hi-Lift
- Lug wrench - that fits your lugs - test before you head to the trail
- Full size spare tire
- Air compressor - for airing up after...airing down
- First aid kit with capacity for all occupants
- Tow strap with at least 10,000 lb capacity
- VERY IMPORTANT - front and rear recovery points. Tow hooks, D-rings, hitch mounted D-ring.
- Enough food and water for occupants
These are the MINIMUM requirements...please read the Xcursion Requirements set to sticky in the Xcursion thread and prepare accordingly.
This is for your own safety and comfort on the trail.

Nothing is set in stone. Like I said, plans and date are subject to change. Whatever works for all involved.

John, I'll definitely be able to make this, perfect timing date-wise.
If we are on tap to set up CANVAZ II, then we should definitely be working on getting it all set up ASAP. When I get back to my room tonight, I'll look at the CANVAZ site and see what needs to be done. I'm sure there is plenty to do to get this going in a respectable way.

Sounds like a blast!!!

Any chance we can stop at some of the mines or other sites to walk around, let the kids explore? The last Big Bear Xcursion we had, the one in March with club Frontier, with 35 trucks,we weren't able to see anything other than the obstacles. I do understand it was a big group. So, first, what trails are in mind, and what can we see along the way?

Hey Irwin...it depends on the size of the groups.
Larger groups need to move faster (less stops) so we all get off the trail at a reasonable hour...smaller groups we could have more time to explore etc.
+10 trucks...less stops
-10 trucks...more stops
The trails mentioned (but not set in stone) are listed above in Reply #8.

Hey I'm in. What do we need to do. Actually this sounds like a bunch of pre-runs before late October. ;D So who is up for Black Trails: Holcomb Creek, Dishpan Springs, John Bull, Heartbreak Ridge
-
Yes please! I'm in. :D Its going on the calendar now before someone tries some funny business and wants to schedule something. I will look at cabin prices up there. Gets chilly there in late Oct. This could it be more perfect... We need a long weekend of offroading and camping.

Okay, Rattlesnake Canyon or Skyline Drive/Jacoby Canyon?
If you have side step rails and mud flaps you will want to remove before tackling either of the trails.
-
Put me down for skyline and jacoby. How bad is rattlesnake/3N03? Hopefully it doesn't rain
-

Rattlesnake isn't bad, just tight is some places.
If you have step rails and mud flaps still, removing them is good.
Sliders are better.

Hi, all! Hey, was wondering, any chance maybe we could come up and meet you all at the Vons parking lot or whatever place you all choose (should it change), even IF we don't make it on a trail....maybe the hubby could get a chance to just take a look at your rigs..meet a couple of ya...How long do you all typically stay at the meeting site prior to taking off to trail heads...20 mins or so....
He's fine with mods as long as: he's part of the decision making process, and that no mods affect the emissions systems, and he wants the truck to have her 1st service before trailing... sigh... Patience is not my middle name...I only have just over 1500 miles on her... But ya know, he didn't say that I couldn't look like I just rolled out of a scene from Mad Max...hee hee ;) Big Bears not far from us...so it's no biggy to go up there just to meet you all, then take off to go do our own thing, and make a day of it. Because no matter what....every day is an adventure....

I can't imagine anyone would object to this. We would be at a meet spot for at least 20 minutes.....honestly will probably be a little more than that as when we get together we like to talk and catch up. Let's see if we can change hubby's mind and get you guys out on some green trails to start.

Max is right, you would be more than welcome to stop by. Or, maybe after the run when we head for pizza and post trail bench racing??? Either way, would be great to meet you and your husband for sure.
Actually this is a great idea, then he could check out some of the trucks for future mods. :)

You can run skyline drive with us. It's very scenic and nothing crazy on that trail. A sedan can run it.

Just to add to the comms part. If someone doesn't have a cb, I do have an extra setup I normally bring consisting of a wilson1000 mag mount antenna and a cobra 19 with a cig plug for power. Just in case that's stopping anyone from signing up. Pm me if interested in borrowing it.
-
Kudos Knightrider! That's the SCCX spirit.
-
...I only have just over 1500 miles on her...
Sorry for the thread-jack, but I couldn't resist.
This picture was taken when my X had about 1500 miles on it - in Big Bear at the end of the Rattlesnake Canyon run in February of 2006 - my first trip with SCCX. They told me all that pinstriping would buff out. I wouldn't know, haven't gotten around to trying yet. My wife is actually smiling in that picture, but I think it's because she hadn't seen the driver's side of the truck yet.
It sounds like this will be a great trip. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to attend.
-
Kudos Knightrider! That's the SCCX spirit.
You know we have all joked about Club initiations tongue in cheek...but Randy just nailed it. What makes a Club is the members selfless efforts to contribute to the common good.
OrangeX/Chad has donated a CB in the past, and now a brand new member, knightrider/Jordan has made the same extension of good will. Really nice to see this...can't thank you guys enough.
Great picture Frank...desert pinstriping...was that your first mod? Or removal of your step rails?

No problem Marshann...did you want to run a blue or green trail on Sunday?
-
I would like to remind everyone for CANVAZ II that CB radios are a run requirement.
This simple mod makes trail communications much easier on the trails, especially with the expected group sizes.
Also a lot more fun to be "in the loop" as you don't want to miss any of Max Power's jokes or trail recipes. ;)
-
;D
-
No problem Marshann...did you want to run a blue or green trail on Sunday?
You can put me down for the green trail on Sunday. If it was for Saturday, I would have chosen the blue trail because Pontiac Sluice (which I think is the same as Heartbreak Ridge), was one of my very favorite trips. Gold Mountain I'm not so sure about though. Thanks John.
-
Can you please add us to the list for Sunday Green Trail Skyline?
working on the CB........still stock though :(
Also, to show our support, we broke away from our usual place of stay and went ahead and got a cabin Sat night @ Big Bear Frontier Cabins :)

Marshann...Heartbreak Ridge is actually a loop of the Pontiac Sluice trail from what I have read. I haven't run it but hear Heartbreak Ridge is very challenging. You are added for Sunday's green trail.

You will have fun on both Skyline Drive (very easy and scenic) as well as get a little flex and fun on Jacoby Canyon. If you can find a CB locally (Fry's, Radio Shack) Walcott CB has a great online shop for units and antennas. You don't need anything fancy, and a good Midland unit will run between $50-$75 and a Firestik antenna with mount is around $30. Install is an easy afternoon on a weekend.
Walcott CB Online (http://www.walcottcb.com/)
Randy/RBDuffer and his GF Nilda will be leading these runs and you will all have fun. :)

Hey all...
Just wanted to mention that I just booked my room at Big Bear Frontier Cabins...and had a really great experience.
Kudos and a big THANKS to Arch'sX for setting up our CANVAZ group rate. Booked a two queen room with a kitchenette and with the applied discounts the charge will be just over two hundred bucks.
Score! :)
The reservation agent was great too, and I received an email confirmation right away. Professional!
Polite reminder: to receive the CANVAZ discounts you must book over the phone and bring the printed Trip Advisor with you at the time of check in. :) :)
Getting excited to see everyone for sure!
-
I have a Lil Will magnet mount cb antenna if anyone needs it for the run. Just coordinate pick up in La Mesa and its yours to keep.
Shoot me a pm for details.

Hi, all. Hey. On the Skyline/Jacoby trail. Do I need to have the stock running boards and mudflaps yanked off? I don't have sliders yet. Or can I get away with leaving them on for this one trip?
-
Hi, all. Hey. On the Skyline/Jacoby trail. Do I need to have the stock running boards and mudflaps yanked off? I don't have sliders yet. Or can I get away with leaving them on for this one trip?
You should take them off as soon as you can. I'm sure you'll be fine on those trails, I'm just talking about resale value of the mud flaps and running boards. Take it from someone who knows, they're hard enough to sell as it is. Plus, your rig will look better without em.
-

Skyline you will be fine, it is a fire road.
On Jacoby I would at least remove your side steps...it's an easy process with a 14mm wrench, and you won't run the risk of damaging them or pushing them up into the body. With those removed and careful spotting you should be fine.
Mud flaps are your call...it's an easy 15-20 minute removal with a Phillips screwdriver. They are most commonly "removed" on the trail or at least folded back and cracked.
Also...bring a tire gauge and something to air down your tires with, as well as a compressor with alligator clips to your battery. It will help your ride and traction to air down to at least 20lbs. on both trails.
-
Disregard my long winded post...what HEVAK said. :D

We plan on going up Friday afternoon/night. Anyone else from the SD area heading up around that time? We have haven't figured out lodging yet but are campers...

Justin nice videos! And please mention to the woman in the blue shirt that was doing a good job spotting that I think that's pretty cool. It isn't easy spotting with the pressure on you and I haven't found many women stepping up like that. Pretty cool.
-
Cabin booked! The people at the Big Bear Frontier Cabins were super nice. All I had to do was mention CANVAZ and she already had the dates and info. Cant wait. :D
-
here are a couple of videos I took when we were doing Jacoby Canyon
Thanks, Justin

Hi All,
I'm a frequent flyer up to Big Bear, when there's snow on the ground. I stay at the Robinhood Resort when the snow is good and I didn't have a baby ;) It's in a great spot, right in the middle of town, walking distance from the bars and restaurants.
Anyways, Pete is the guy that runs the joint and he gave us a great rate.
$69 per night for a standard room. Just mention the CANVAZ group rate.
Robinhood Resort

Her forum name is JeniorNV on clubfrontier. It was her first time in big bear and she's from reno area. She had guts to spot on the trail while all us guys didn't step up haha.
Thanks, Justin
No problem. The videos were the hardest spots for a stock rig like mine. In the last video you can see my mud flap hit a rock and bends back I thought it broke lol.
-
I hate to rain on the Arch's X parade, but if you're like me, saving $$$ is paramount. Plus, who doesn't like options??
you can take some of that money you saved to buy a good bottle of single malt scotch. to share in the evening. :):)
Just a thought.
and don't scrimp when it comes to Single Malt scotch......
-
Great, options!

Blue or Red??

Blue or Red??
Single malt, not blended.
Johnnie is a blend in any color.( although blue is tasty)
-
No rain on my parade. I simply arranged something for other people to benefit from.. So far a heck of a lot less work than I put into CANVAZ I. If you prefer to stay somewhere else.. by all means..
I would prefer to stay with you guys, but my wallet said NO. I hope I didn't come off as ungrateful. I really appreciate that you set us up at the Frontier. The Robinhood is merely another option for the monetarily less inclined, like me.
Thanks again Arch's X

Look here Mr. Money Bags, you're obviously out of my league. You've done more, in Two Weeks, than I've been able to do to my rig in 6 years. Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked for you and your rig. I'm just hatin, that's all.
-
I think I'll be looking at Robinhood resort, I'm broke from modding haha
-
Hey Chris,
I'll be pulling a cork on a fifth of Origine 12 yr. And there may be some Jameson as well. You don't have to be Irish but it always helps ;D Looking forward to seeing everyone. I wont tell you where we're already booked but I'll give you guys a hint: "This is Jim Bodet, we'll leave the light on."
-
seems Origine is a bottler of multiple spirits.
you don't happen to know the distillery name on the label?
Oh, and Also its Tom Bodett. :)

it's decided: mudflaps and running boards will be off. Just have to be careful.

Counting down the days to this already! Can't wait to get wheeling again with some great old friends, and meet some new ones!

John as a child.
I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly...
-
Alcohol is an acquired taste. One I apparently haven't acquired. bleh..
Fixed :-)
-
I was going to be a guest of Jim Bodet aka Tom Bodett, although after some malt I just call him (and everyone else) Johnnie or Mr. Walker. But after the 10.5% tax it came up to about $88.39, so I ended up at the Robinhood which even beat that price.
Actually, with the Bodett 20% discount code of CP545856, it would have only been $79.55 after tax. But it would be nice to stay somewhere without this little limerick running through my head all night. Bodett Symphony (http://www.myspace.com/music/player?sid=46828908&ac=now)

Are we starting a band of merry men?
-

Oh, and Also its Tom Bodett. :)
tomato, tomatto
It's a small batch single malt scotch whisky from:
Hamish Robertson & Co.
Bellshill ML4 3AN Scotland
I got it from a wee man wearing a tam behind a cigar store.
-
Are we starting a band of merry men?
Oh, it's been started!!

I was just talking to the wife the other day about going wheeling at the end of October. I'm going to run this by her tomorrow, but so far count me in for blue trails both days. Have to talk to the boss (at work) too, but that shouldn't be a problem. Will probably end up staying at Robinhood if there's any room left. Don't think I can swing for that other joint.
Need. Money. For. Rig...Sell/Trade kidney for Schrock rear bumper with carrier. Interested, PM me!
J/K.
-
We need a trail leader for Saturday's Black run of Holcomb Creek if anyone is interested. Arch'sX is bringing his family up and is looking to run a simpler trail.
Nick, Matt, or Dan, let me know. Or we can just disperse everyone onto green or blue trails?

I am in.
I am also camping; is anyone else? Camping will increase the ability to attend this exponentially and keep my costs low at a time when they need to be.
I'd like to do Rattlesnake on Saturday because, well, I'm looking forward to being in the drivers seat instead of shotgun! ;)
As for Sunday, I'd like to try Gold Mountain.....I guess we can use Rattlesnake as a measuring stick to see how she handles and if she can take Gold Mountain.
Can't. Flippin. Wait.
w00t!

Hello Everyone,
Can't wait to be wheeling again, my truck has been in the garage for way way way to long.
I would love to do the pre-runs, just let me know when and where!
For Saturday and Sunday my wife and little one will be with me so I better stay on the Green.
Look forward to seeing you all soon!
;D
-
I am in. I am also camping; is anyone else?
I think some people are waiting to see what the weather will be like when it gets closer to the date, especially those coming from out of town. The list of yellow post sites would be a good starting point to choose a campsite. However, depending on how the run goes on Saturday, camping may turn out to be whatever place is the closest. But this run appears well organized so that may not be necessary.
Can't wait to see your new rig. 8)

Welcome cdagne!
John will get you on the list just as soon as he gets done doing whatever the heck it is that he does at his work place thingy :P

You are added to both green trails for Saturday and Sunday.

I haven't ran this one before, might have to run it a time or two before CANVAZ before I can say I'll take the reins. I'll message SteeevO over on RuggedRocks to see if he is going and would want to lead Holcomb Creek.

The list of yellow post sites would be a good starting point to choose a campsite.
Um, mind if I ask what you're referring to here? Yellow post?
I was looking at sites on recreation.gov, where you can reserve sites.....that one?

Hey Adarsh,
Welcome!!! Stoked you made it over here. Hope the steps worked out for you. Just remember to remove them before you hit the dirt ;)
You should post up at the Welcome Center and start your build thread in the Display Case. Be warned, modding is highly addictive.
Feel free to PM me with any questions.

May as well keep it in house. ;) My computer blocked that site for some reason. Try this. http://www.sccxterra.com/smf/index.php/topic,1442.0.html (http://www.sccxterra.com/smf/index.php/topic,1442.0.html)
Maybe Max or FishPOET can recommend a yellow post site for this trip, although we will need a head count to be sure to get an appropriately sized site. Once we determine a campsite, someone will need to step up to get there early to reserve the spot.
Also, just a reminder that this is a "family friendly" run. However, that doesn't mean we can't have some fun. ;D We just need to be aware of our surroundings, especially when children are around or people want to sleep.
-
Wow!!! Mind = blown!!
Thanks Hevak & RockinX!!!
And WELCOME ADARSH!!!
You came to the right place!! I can't recommend these people or this group enough!!!
Looking foward to keeping tabs on which YP spot we choose; I need room for a tent. And my rig. I prefer quiet but I sure as heck don't plan on going to bed at 9. Any of those sites will certainly do.
Awesome!!
Thanks,

Congrats and welcome! You will really enjoy your Pro-4X...will take you a lot of places right out of the box. You have been added to the Big Bear green trail lists.
Please take a moment and read the Xcursion Guidlines for SCCX (http://www.sccxterra.com/smf/index.php/topic,212.0.html), as they will help you prepare for your first off road trip with the club.

I'm not sure I can make it on the 28th anymore :'(. I have an interview for a nursing internship tomorrow and if I get it, one of the training days is on that day. I may do the 27th depending how 2wd friendly it is. I don't want to be an anchor and compromise the trip.

For those of you running Rattlesnake Canyon on Saturday...we will be doing a bit of geocaching on the trail.
PM me if you have questions about this...or visit the main site here: Geocaching.com (http://www.geocaching.com/)
This run is going to be very family friendly, a perfect day if you have kids...still fun, but a focus on enjoying the day and relaxing.
We will have lunch on the trail, so don't forget to pack a chair for each driver/passenger, shade if you want to, and a cooler with your lunch. Everyone will be able to ice up at the Vons meet spot in the morning.
We will depart Vons and drive down the 18 Hwy to the junction of the 247 in Lucerne Valley, and then head back up the 247 to the trail head of Rattlesnake Canyon.
There is a great air down spot just off the road there, and then we will head in to the trail.
Day time temperatures on the trail should be just about perfect, in the high sixties to low seventies, but bring a light jacket/shell just in case temps dip or we get some cloud cover. Still pack sunscreen, especially for the kid-o's.
For the stockers on this run with 265's (tire size), airing down to 20 lbs. is safe and recommended. This will provide you with better traction, but more importantly a much smoother ride over the bumpy surfaces we will be encountering.
For those of you running with RBDuffer/Randy on Sunday for Skyline Drive/Jacoby Canyon, same stuff applies as well.
-
Clark's Summit will be an abbreviated version. We will not be running the entire loop. We will run from hwy 38 up to Skyline and back down into BigBear. With out any hiccups, this should take no more that 2 hours.
I did this in my bone stock X before. There are some rock gardens but they are grapefruit sizes rocks, nothing to get excited about.
I just want to get out at night and still have time to get sh!t faced later.
Hope you guys can make it.
-
Literally sitting in a plane at LAX, Gold Mountain trail review is gonna have to wait until I get home on my laptop later this afternoon.

Just want to make sure, after seeing todays run, should I stay on the blue trails or is it going to be tougher than what we did today? If its no more difficult, I'll stay on for sure.

After seeing you drive today Slide, you'll be more than fine on the blue trails. Just stay away from the black trails. They sound scary... :o

So pissed IM going to miss this. But hopefully next year.

Just checked out pictures of your Gen 1 in the Welcome Center.
Running Gold Mountain/Pontiac Sluice with your tires could be "interesting.", those trails are a different kind of challenge than Cleghorn.
Make sure you get a tampon for your rear receiver...you might need it. ORW or 4 Wheel Parts...$35.00.
You will want to for sure remove your step rails...and be prepared for some possible undercarriage/body damage.
Do you have skids?

Like John said, very different terrain. Cleghorn has rocks but it's mostly tricky, loose, rutted mogul type terrain. Big Bear has rocks, big ones. You deffenatly want to remove the steps and flaps. They will get ripped off. Swing by Harbor Freight and pick up a hitch hook and a tow strap if you dont already have one. You'll be wheeling with some experienced guys but a relaxed attitude and a good sense of humor will make the day alot enjoyable.

Just want to make sure, after seeing todays run, should I stay on the blue trails or is it going to be tougher than what we did today? If its no more difficult, I'll stay on for sure.
I think you should be fine as long as you don't give into peer pressure like you did yesterday lol
-
I think you should be fine as long as you don't give into peer pressure like you did yesterday lol
HA HA!!! Yes, do not do that in Big Bear.
In all seriousness, you should never feel pressured into doing anything while wheeling with this group. We're all out there to have fun. As LavaPro4X, so eloquently, said yesterday, there's no room in this game for bravado. It's about having fun and being safe.
-
We are still looking forward to meeting you all in Big Bear. The running boards & mudflaps are now off. Sliders are on. Many thanks to all of you for the advice & pointers. Skids will be ordered next, but they wont be here by the Big Bear trip. That's okay. More presents to look forward to.

I just want to start off by saying I had a great time with everybody and want to give special thanks to Angel, Terry and everyone else who have a hand when I broke.
I'll finish this post by saying I don't give in to peer pressure. I have nothing to prove to anybody but myself, my rig and the work I put into it and the trail. I did what I did cause I know I can. From racing 750's as a teenager, a self taught mechanic with just as much skill and knowledge as anybody in this group, to drifting with some of the best Japan has to offer. Not trying to bag on you, but I broke 180 mph on a motorcycle before you were looking at girls "differently". I've done this trail a month ago, and did 90% of what we did yesterday minus the last hairball section. I turned around that day because I saw it was too hairy to go at it without an experienced spotter. I know my limitations, and I'm exploring my rigs limitations with the help of the fine members of this club. Simply put, I'm just trying to say I'm not some weak minded idiot who does things to be cool to people I don't even know. I do have "hold my beer, watch this moments", but that's usually when I have a beer in my hand. You'd be hard pressed to put me in a situation that will make me crack under pressure. I've seen combat multiple times, and I was doing aircraft crash recovery when you were ten. I can't read tone online, so I'm saying what I am saying as nicely as I can, but telling me I "give into peer pressure" is just a bit offensive to me.

I didn't mean it in an offensive way. ??? Your rig did a phenomenal job yesterday. I was just poking fun at reiterating the phrase "You can do it" which we were saying all day. You do have more experience than me and I respect that. Again... I didn't mean to offend anyone.

??? So is anyone Camping in Big Bear Friday night or Saturday Night? We plan on rolling up and want to camp out. 3 PAX total, Maybe a Yellow Post site. Anyone else coming with young kids. Our son is 5 going on 25, and like he said in Cleghorn, Potatoe, PoTaatoe. ;D
Lemme Know. I'll bring extra S'mores :P
-
Just want to let everyone know that ill be hauling my mig welder up to big bear. Ill be set up for flux so I wont have to haul a tank. If anyone has room in there X, they can help me haul my air compressor and full set of tools.

I think Justin was just making a general comment that we should all keep in mind. That holds true not only to peer pressure, but to the pressure we put on ourselves. I don't think he knows any of us well enough for it to be a personal affront. Here's Paul's Gold Mountain video that gives an idea of the trail. I have a 1st Gen without a locker and am not sure I would be able to get up the second(?) obstacle without a tug. Plus, I believe 33s were required on the last Gold Mountain run whereas I have 32s. So I chose the other trail even though I am so tempted to do Gold Mountain. I just don't want to get over my head or hold people up. It seems to me the 2nd Gens are cheating with their OEM lockers, heated seats, and hill descent control that allows for better crawling (not like the 1st Gens with their poor gear ratio). Kind of like camping at a luxury hotel. :P Gold Mountain Video (http://www.sccxterra.com/smf/index.php/topic,411.0.html)
ETA. I have a manual transmission so the gear ratio comment probably doesn't apply to automatics.

I plan on camping. Was actually thinking of starting a thread just for the people camping so we could coordinate logistics. I'll be bringing the house commander, myself and three boys, 10, 7, & 3. They all love smores. pm me, or if we got anybody else jumping on we can get another thread started.

I plan on camping as well. Its just me that making this run this time.

My son is 12 and will be attending...and you're never too old for s'mores! ;D We may have to roll by your campground with a cold glass of milk and toast some s'mores at the fire.
We will be camping in the "lap of luxury" ;) at the Big Bear Frontier Hotel, as I didn't want to sleep on the ground if it was cold...but I am sure we will hang out at some point.
Yes, feel free to post all your "fair weather" comments after this post...I can take it. :D

Hey guys...
I started a new thread in the Xcursion folder for camping at Canvaz II
see link below :)

I had my step rails off for cleghorn, and will hopefully have my sliders put together by the end of the month. I should also have my 2" BL on by then also, which the sliders and rear bumper are waiting for. Won't have the dough for the steel for the rear bumper before the Big Bear run, but will definately have a tampon back there. Tires are Falken Rocky Mtn A/t's, 31.5"'s. These tires have been really good to me from Cleghorn to crazy muddin after the monsoons that hit Moval a while back. If you think I should stay out of Gold Mountain with those, let me know and I'll listen. It's just that the green trails are like putting me on kiddy rides. I'll be bored for the most part. I want to challenge myself, but at the same time don't want to obliterate my DD.

Hi All,
I'm a frequent flyer up to Big Bear, when there's snow on the ground.
40797 Big Bear Blvd.
Big Bear, Ca 92315
Ask for the CANVAZ Group Rate: 909-866-4643
i know im a bit late on booking my room, but apparently this rate is only good for a 2-night stay...looking for places near Robinhood, any suggestions as a 1 night stay there will run me ~$150?
thank you!

Check out the camping thread...of you want to rough it with a group of us. :D

I want to address the run requirements as far as the black/blue/green trails are concerned for CANVAZ II.
This post is a general post, NOT directed at any one individual. This is simply to clarify if you have any questions in your own mind.
We get questions every big run SCCX puts together about whether this truck/or that truck is capable, as well as representations about how much experience individuals have that qualifies them for Trail X or Trail Y. These trail ratings are put in place by the trail leaders for the safety and enjoyment of the groups running the trails. It's also a great excuse/incentive to keep modding your truck and upgrade to more aggressive trails.
When you are choosing which trails to run, try to put it in the perspective of what's best for the group. Trashing someone's DD or having to wait through a 2-3 hour recovery/mechanical repair on the trail isn't fun for anyone...especially the owner of the truck.
So with all of that said:
Green Runs: 31" (255's) and above tires with A/T or M/T tread patterns, sliders recommended but not necessary, skid plates recommended but not necessary, front and rear recovery points mandatory, stock suspension okay, 2" of lift recommended but not necessary.
Blue Runs: 33" (285's) and above tires with A/T or M/T tread patterns, sliders mandatory, skids mandatory, front and rear recovery points mandatory, front and rear armor (bumpers) recommended but not necessary, rear locker recommended but not necessary, 2" or more of suspension lift mandatory, 3" of lift recommended but not necessary, winch recommended but not necessary.
Black Runs: 33" (285's) and above tires with A/T or M/T tread patterns, sliders mandatory, skids mandatory, front and rear armor recommended but not necessary, 3" of lift and above mandatory, rear locker mandatory, front locker recommended but not necessary, winch mandatory.
Let me know if anyone has questions.
Thank you,
John, GhostX

Motel 6 is about 2.9 miles away at 42899 Big Bear Blvd. The Robinhood is at 40797 Big Bear Blvd. If you use the 20% discount code CP545856, the price is $71.89 for one person and $77.39 for two adults. But then they charge 10.50% tax on top of that. If anyone already reserved a room at Motel 6, you can still give them that discount code at the desk and they will adjust the price. The discount code works at any Motel 6 and has been valid for many years.

That must be new thing. I'm only staying for one night, Saturday. Ask for Pete, and tell him you're with CANVAZ. Also mention that there are other people in the group that are staying there for one night. Fair is fair.

Thanks for posting the info GhostX. Looks like I should be put on the green trails list then. I'm only on 31.5's, should have sliders by then, no armor, maybe a BL, and already sitting on a sus lift. Better to be safe than sorry I guess. Won't get my 33's till next year, and need to change up my rear sus, I've seen overweight midnite shopping in spandex WAL-Mart specials with more flex in the rear than my poor Katya.
-
Marshann pointed out that 31" tires are actually 255's...so that is corrected.

There is a lot of fun to be had in both Rattlesnake Canyon and Jacoby Canyon...yes, Skyline Drive is a pretty mild fire road run, but the views are spectacular. Also, I have found a lot of the green runs are about the people, and not always grinding steel on granite. :)
-
Put me down as a yes. This will be a great opportunity to try out me new to me rear locker.
Hey Ray, got to be quicker on the draw buddy. ;D Thanks Steve, we'll miss you.
Tim: are you running aftermarket skid plates yet??
-
Skyline Drive is a pretty mild fire road run, but the views are spectacular.
Skyline Drive is a great place to watch the fireworks display over Big Bear Lake on the Fourth of July, as long as you don't mind a lot of noisy people celebrating. It gets somewhat crowded on the trail since it's not a very well kept secret, and the prime spots get taken fairly early. But you can always find parking along the trail and then walk to a better viewing location. Actually, walking along the trail is half the fun because you get to check out the celebrations and get to know your "neighbors." :D

Hefty Fabworks: Skids & Sliders Here (http://www.heftyfabworks.com/)
A merger with NXRocks and Hefty Fabworks brought skid plates to their inventory. Their rad skid mount has become the industry standard...and their sliders are pretty nice too. I'll let everyone else chime in about wait times/pricing/customer service etc.

Okay cool...do you think you'll have'em before Big Bear? Your gonna need em' on Gold Mountain/Pontiac Sluice for sure.

Next week is my B-day, so happy to me i'm geeting some Total Chaos UCA's. I will have sliders for Big Bear, I found a place in La Habra that will fab them for $375 in half a day. As for the skid's, Usko gave me his factory oil pan skid and that's probably all I'll have for this trip.

thank you all for the suggestions and Motel 6 discount code as well!

GOLD MOUNTAIN - Trail Rated Blue
"Blue Runs: 33" (285's) and above tires with A/T or M/T tread patterns, sliders mandatory, skids mandatory, front and rear recovery points mandatory, front and rear armor (bumpers) recommended but not necessary, rear locker recommended but not necessary, 2" or more of suspension lift mandatory, 3" of lift recommended but not necessary, winch recommended but not necessary."
Ok folks, here it is, Gold Mountain review.
This trail is tough. Various off road books out there have this trail as a difficult, as they should. It is definitely a challenge even with the most built up rigs. Most of the trails we go on are as tough as we want to make them, Gold Mt starts challenging, and gets tough. This trail has a tremendous amount of rocks ranging from small pebbles to large boulders for about 80% of the trail. It will sound like you are driving across a field of broken glass a good portion of the trail. Even the by-passes can be challenging, so experience/confidence with your rig will get you through this all.
The infamous "Talus slope" is where the below picture occurred, and as you can see, the terrain requires the skids. You WILL hit something in your undercarriage on this one, no maybes, you will. I can't express enough how much you will rely on skids on this trail. I would like to avoid having someone busting their oil pan wide open on this one, cause trail recovery will be tricky at best. We will try to have our lunch/snack break here at Talus slope, it's a nice open area, fairly decent space to park the rigs and chill for a bit. It is also just about where the hardest parts of the trail ends, and the easier stuff starts.
...
The Group surveys the first obstacle on Gold Mountain...we all commented on how rutted the trail had become:

If you need a spotter, don't be afraid to ask! Also, if you have a preference on spotter, don't be afraid to ask for that person (in the end it's your vehicle, you are the final word on who is spotting). I encourage you to point at someone specifically and say "Can you spot me?". We'll be stopping for the harder obstacles so you can gauge how you want to tackle something, but I would like to keep the group moving.

Man, I wish I could go. Stuck working a at a big construction site off the 110 and 405 fwy in Carson.
-
Hey guys
I've got 3" lift, UCAs, full armor, lockers, 33s, bumper and winch. I've done Gold Moutain, Jacoby and Rattlesnake. I am taking the green trails cuz that's where I had the most FUN! I find it's easier to find something crazy to run over on an easy trail then it is to hide from the oh-sh** on the difficult trail. The cautious choise is only as boring as you make it. I am looking forward to meeting all of you, new and old.
Let the fun begin ;D

Ha Ha!!! This is going to be a really fun weekend.
I CAN'T FLIPPIN WAIT!!!!!!
-
Seems like a fun bunch. Sooo looking fwd to upcoming BB wknd. Out of curiosity, how long does it usually take for a group to make the green trails loop? Don't need an exact time, just basic guesstimate. We have a couple family members flying in, go figure, THAT weekend. And NO WAY are we backing out. Already made that clear to the relatives. hhmmppf! lol On another note, just got her first service this morning. Running a few errands afterwards, veered off by Lake Matthews, hit some dirt trails that branched off towards the water tanks. Hubby had me practicing, teaching me some basics. Kinda get a feel for the vehicle. Will take her out a bit more prior to BB. Didn't want to drive out to the mountains this wknd, gas spike put a damper on that.

Im staying at a friends place up in big bear, if anyone is interested we have couch and floor space available. Its not the nicest place but its warm and its free. The owner wont be there so it will only be me and another member so far.
-
The variable to trail times is the size of the group Michelle. Really depends on that.
I expect for Rattlesnake Canyon on Saturday that we will hit the trail head around 9:30-10:00am. Probably be on the trail until at least 3pm...possibly a little later.
Been looking at a few historic mine sites along the trail for everyone to check out and explore...as well as logging a few geocaches. From the trail list and reading a few posts, I think there will be a few children along and want to offer several family friendly opportunities. Geocaches and gold mining history should fit the bill...with a good dose of fun off roading thrown in for good measure.
Last February we ran 36 (yes, thirty-six) vehicles through Rattlesnake Canyon and it took about 6 hours...but we kept the pace "up-tempo" to make sure we didn't run out of daylight.
Hopefully that provides some insight.
...and yes, a group with a very good sense of humor with an even better sense of selfless trail etiquette.

Rattlesnake Canyon Peeps:
Here are a few of the geocaches we will be searching for:
GC1VBR0 - Longhorn Springs
GCZJZW - Rattlesnake Canyon (a good hike to the cache here to stretch legs)
GC39TH7 - Lunch With The Odd Bunch (lunch spot for the day)
GC13HV7 - 1880 Gold Smelter and Flue
GC13HWD - Hole in The Wall (Gold Mine)
GC1ZJ28 - A Real "Tip Top" Cache
GC12Q32 - Tip Top Mine
If you haven't geocached...feel free to check things out at Geocaching.com. If you ARE a cacher already, get ready for a few cool mountain/desert caches on this run. So BYOP for a few great TFTC's! :)

I have just now discovered that there is a group dedicated to nude geocaching.

Isnt that just a fancy word for "Hide and Seek"? :P

The blue runs will not consist of any catching either. I dont know what you all will be doing down in RattleSnake for 6 hours but I dont want any part of it. ;D

If anyone plans to stop and hike on the trails, please remmeber to pick up a "Forest Adventure Pass"
. You can get one at any Big 5, REI and Sport Chalet just to name a few. There are daily passes for around $5 or yearly passes for something like $35. I dont remember prices off the top of my but they are around there.
Cheaperb than a citation and the money goes to the forest sevices.

Last February we ran 36 (yes, thirty-six) vehicles through Rattlesnake Canyon and it took about 6 hours...but we kept the pace "up-tempo" to make sure we didn't run out of daylight.
36 rigs - 1 Disco - 1 red heep (jk...it was a nice jeep) - 2 or 3 Fronty's
Rest were X's.
John (GhostX) was a sight to see working the HAM, CB and FRS all the while LEADING THE ENTIRE GROUP, driving his X and telling me stories along the way. I don't think this Rattlesnake run will last quite as long.
p.s. - that water crossing.....can we do that pretty please?!?!??! I had to get a ride back w/ Panathrasher because he was out of firewood somehow :P. I just got my car mount for my go-pro and I wanna place it so it's about 3in above the water level on the drivers side door....I think that will be an amazing shot
p.p.s. - so, we don't need the adventure passes for camping or wheeling, but we do if we're gonna get out of the rigs and stash crap in the hills? amirite?
Oh, and I think this was said somewhere before but
CANNOT FREAKING WAIT!!!!

James & I are still flip flopping back n forth about whether or not to attend & request being added the green trail on Saturday: Rattlesnake run
Don't laff. Not familiar with this trail either. This water crossing...is it a BIG crossing? or a little crossing? Oh what the heck...go ahead and laff.
-
Just sign up, it'll be lots of fun and you will learn that a stock pro4x is pretty damn capable. Just hide a key to the house and tell the company heading into town to grab a cab and you'll be home when ya get there :-)
-
I'd like to know how deep the water crossing is too. I haven't done the axle vent mod yet. I'm lagging on the mods :-[
-
Whoa Whoa Whoa...
Ok. If I remember, this was at the end of the day and not technically a part of Rattlesnake Canyon; however, if you look at the pix in the link I'm about to post, you'll see the water came half way up the door.
Catch being IT WAS FEBRUARY. February tends to be a much wetter month than, say, October of 2012. :P
http://www.sccxterra.com/smf/index.php/topic,1174.0.html
Can't. Freaking. Wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111
-
The water crossing is on Forestry Service Trail 2N02...and it's really not that deep...if you're riding in a lifted Xterra. ;)
You don't need a Forest Pass to get out of your truck to stash crap in the woods...you need it to find crap that's been stashed in the woods...along with a $300 GPS receiver...and don't forget the $1,100 bumper on the front of your truck...several $200 mods that you installed (sliders, skids...) that actually reduce your mileage but protect your rig...and on and on.
Buy the pass and add it to the list...or don't.
Your call. :)

No laughing...run Rattlesnake Canyon if timing permits...you won't regret it. It's a great trail.

I made my reservation at Robinhood Resort for Fri/Sat and I plan on heading up from North County SD (Carmel Mtn Ranch Area) maybe around noonish on Fri. I'd like to get up there and find a great place for some grub and then plan for a somewhat mild evening... You get to be an old fart like me and you want to pace yourself the the three days. Anybody else want to 'CARAVAN to CANVAZ', give me a PM or sign up here...
This will be a Sweet Weekend!
-
It looks like my dog will be coming with me since I will have contractors working outside my house for about 2-3 weeks and I can't leave my pup locked inside. I'll be at the Robinhood but no clubbin' for me. :(
Come on CANVAZ! When ya going to get here. T-minus countdown....
-
The water crossing is great fun and was no problem for any stock X in Feb. I just hope there's some water to cross in Oct. ???
BTW, I'm the second truck (with the silly brush guard) in John's photo above. This was my very first trail and it's a blast for all ages!
Let's get wheelin'
-
The weather in Big Bear is so bipolar. One minute its 90F the next its pouring rain. I wouldn't want to be caught in the canyons or on a water crossing while a flash flood warning is out.
-
GhostX Please add James & I to the Sat green trail as well: Rattlesnake Canyon
Thanks :)

finally they make the right decision :D

Now lets put 20 rigs on the Mojave Rd.

Is anybody doing a run Friday afternoon or evening?

I have 8 hours 15 minutes in the saddle just to get to Big Bear.
I think I'll just go to my cabin and then go have a beer or two :)

Theres a great mexican food place in the middle of the village. Has a huge bar and awsome steak nachos. Ill probably end up there on Frifay night.
-
I'll be heading out after work so ill be getting there pretty late Friday,
-
Is anybody doing a run Friday afternoon or evening?
Maybe? Only cause I have a retirement BBQ coordinate for lunch that day (setup/teardown) so it might be an early day, it might not be.
-
I'll be heading out after work so ill be getting there pretty late Friday,
I have a meeting in Poway til probably 4, home and ready by 5. Are you in the SD area? I'm in Esco, if Want to roll up together, plan to get to BB around 7?
-
Yea we can roll together. I'm in Mira mesa and I get off at 3, but have to see if my lady can sneak out of work earlier than 5 so we can get on the road at a decent time.
-
Cool.
There is always the cough, cough hack wheez, boss I need to leave early excuse. ;D
-
She just took all last week off for that very reason haha, she's still coughing, seems to be going around
-
I am picking up the kid-o from school around 3pm on Friday, and plan on heading up from there. Probably be in BB around 6-7pm. Would enjoy a kid friendly group for dinner, with a few social sparklers here and there.
LMK.
I like the steak nachos idea. ;D
I'm starting to see a trend here, one EPIC run after another... KEEP'EM COMING!
This is a good thing...happy that people are rallying and coming out.
Word...

This would be great, and on my bucket list for sure.
I've had some requests for Club stickers, and will have them in hand at the meet spot both days, and trail head for Rattlesnake Canyon and Gold Mountain trails.
The price is $5 each, and exact change would be fantastic. Or 2 for $10. Or 4 for $20. ;)

Minor changes for me. Can you add me on the night run and I have to drop from the Sunday run cause I have to be back in Yuma on Monday for some mandatory training they are making us do. Im not planning on leaving BB till sun morning
-
Is the Blue Trail group anything close to Pontiac sluice? If so I have no problem with that. Btw john where has Marc been hidding at? I haven't heard or seen any post by him lately.

Marc's been busy with work and family. Hear he may be lurking in BB the weekend we are there and might stop by sometime.
-
disregard my blue trail comment haha just read that post. However what about the black trail? And I might be down for the night drive.

Yeah, I'm leaving San Clemente around 4:30/5 and I anticipate arriving around 7ish as well....although I might want to set up camp before I head out for dinner...we'll see
I'm assuming everyone from SD is taking the 15N.....safe to assume?
-
Yep 15/215
-
Yes.
-
Cool...cause I didn't wanna caravan w/ anyone anyways....sheesh!
:P
Besides, I don't want any witnesses when I drive through the toll road things w/out plates....
'oh, was I supposed to pay back there?'
opps!
-
Anyone else heading up any earlier in the day?
-
i leave at 0800 should arrive at 1630 on Friday
-
PM's sent to all Trail Leaders. 8)
-
Anyone else heading up any earlier in the day?
I was thinking about heading out around noon on Friday top miss all of the wonderful Santa Ana Canyon traffic. My son and I should be there around 2ish.
-
So there will be a few out earlier then the rest it looks like. I'll be up there around 2 or at the campsite checking us in then Im up for whatever
-
Nilda and I should make early afternoon as well
-
So 20 pages read.... kind of up to date. Me and creek are down for holcomb on saturday and the green night run. Is there no chance of a black trail on sunday, if not sign creak and I up for the blue trail.
Im pumped. Been off the boards for a while but I have been busy with the jeep. The cliff notes are welder, cage, notched frame, etc....

Very nice....the "NV" in CANVAZ is alive and well.
Welcome Dan...we can find a Black Trail for Sunday as well.
John Bull or Dishpan Springs come to mind.
There are several in the area, we have just had an issue with providing experienced trail leaders for these trails. Maybe we just post up and let the Black Trail groups explore on their own...sans trail leader. A group tackling those trails would be well prepared and probably just needs maps/gps coords.
Plenty of time to figure things out.

If I get my truck back by then I would sure like to play on Sunday. I have done John Bull twice before and am sure with the cast of characters I'm seeing gathering, it could be a good time.

Blues and blacks please.

I did too Nick. Latest news: Alex was driving it back from the alignment shop and mysteriously BROKE the left front coilover????? It was waiting for a replacement ABS wire that was broken. So the latest is who knows when I'm going to get it back.

To repeat sounds like we have enough crazies John to make a Black trail group for Sunday. I would personally vote John Bull because I have a little experience.

It will be cool for sure.
I just got the word, I will be locked in budget meetings on the 25th and 26th all day. >:( >:( >:(
So an early departure for me looks unlikely on Friday.
Hopefully I can get up to the hotel before 9pm, but I will have to see.
-
Im looking at an aproximate departure of about 7:30pm on Friday. Ill be coming off of a 12hr shift, so I'll be cranky and in need of beer.
-
Add me to the list, I will get off work on friday at 4pm or 1130 pm. I will head down as soon as I get off about a 5 hour drive so I should roll in at 6am. Any suggestions? Should I just roll into a campsite that early or go park at one of the hotels listed.
Put me in the novice/moderate group.

Welcome...there is a camping thread here as well, post over there for info. on the camping arrangements.
Why don't you try to catch a few zzz's where ever you land for lodging, and head to the meet spot at 8am to hook up with everyone.
You are added to the green trails, and looking forward to meeting you. Read through the Xcursion requirements also listed here, and make sure you have a CB installed so you don't miss anything on the trail.

Some bad news though. Jeff (creek) will not be attending now. He has to fly down to Texas that weekend to some kind of training with the AF for a month or so.

awesome. I always wanted to do John Bull. Mark and John, you guys should come on John Bull.
Some bad news though. Jeff (creek) will not be attending now. He has to fly down to Texas that weekend to some kind of training with the AF for a month or so.
\
He's Crack or something like that on TheNewX right? He had some TS stuff for sale a while back, know anything about that?
-
Ya thats him. Im pretty sure he sold the arms but I can text him if you want. He lives a few blocks away from me. Im pretty sure all he has left is a M205 and some 2.0 titan swap radflos.

You know, looking at that picture. I think we did a damn good job considering. I mean it was 3am, we stealthy removed and installed it without waking up the condo of T3, our wing man was drunk and apparently deaf, we fought off sprinklers while painting in the grass. And no one noticed for days.

This was a mission of supreme stealth...not to mention that I had been driving for 14 hours and was sleep deprived...but again, mission priorities.
And yes, the best part was it went undetected until Friday on Steel Bender. Great pic BTW.

Was there supposed to be something going on on Friday?
-
Well it looks like I'm going to have my X for this event.. ;D ;D
With that, I'm wondering whether anybody is planning on being up there say around noon Friday. If so, would you be interested in doing a little light wheeling Friday afternoon. I would like to pre-run a trail just to exercise my X and "make sure nothing falls off, Danny" ;) Matter of fact, if it were to get a little interesting, I would make sure you would not get into harms way. I would just like a rig in the general vicinity that I could communicate with, just in case something did happen.
Thank you in advance
-

I would love to get in on the fun, but we can't check into the campsite till 1400, and I'll probable be busy setting up camp after that. Got to get dinner going before it gets too dark.

As of 6:00PM, it looks like my X is ready. Be picking it up tomorrow morning and will be heading for BB mid-morning, probably arriving BB about 1-2PM.
I will be monitoring CB channel 17 and my cell number is (seven one four) two seven one - three five seven one. Anybody in the area at that time, give me a call or a shout on the CB, maybe we can hook up do a little light wheeling or drinking or whatever..
-
Hey guys, is there still room for two on the rattlesnake run for Saturday? I've been going on quite a few of these meets with the club frontier guys and they are a lot of fun. I'm trying to get my dad to go on one of these. He recently got a Pro4x Xterra and is starting to get into off-roading. I still have to check if he's available. If he doesn't go, I'd be up for Pontiac Sluice . What do you guys say?

................................From ThenewX.org
I have had some work done on my truck and now the ABS/SLIP/VDC lights are on. The guy said that it was a rear drivers ABS sensor. He replaced it but the lights don't go out.
Question: Can I still drive the rig (4 wheel low with the e-locker) with these lights on until I can get to the Dealer to find out exactly what is going on?
You can only run green trails with these lights on.
............it's in the rules and shi&T
:)

No problem...check the original post now updated.
Please read the run requirements and this THREAD carefully, as the Blue and Black run have minimum requirements.
As far as the green runs, if you haven't run with SCCX before, removal of your side steps/mud flaps is recommended.
You will need a CB in any vehicle for all runs.
Please PM me if you have any questions.

Can someone bring an SWR meter?
-
Ive got one I was going to bring
-
Danka Shane!!!
-
Well crap. I was supposed to get my skids and sliders today but work unexpectedly got in the way. I won't be able to make the event. :/
BUT... for those going, if you see a white and maroon 737 over head about 445 or so, that would be me heading into Palm Springs. Take pics! :P
Lupin
-
Pretty nice here. Seeing lots of stock xterras around here... and one well beat on first gen
See y'all soon.
P.s.
I also have an swr meter w me.
-
I also have an swr meter w me.
For those of us not in the 'know'....
wutsa SWR meter?
-
An SWR meter is used to test and dial in the reception of your CB/Antenna, I think...
I've never used or have even seen one in action, I just want to make sure my CB is dialed in.
-
Yes it measures the Standing Wave Ratio, meaning how efficient your antenna is. 1:1 is ideal meaning all power is being radiated by your antenna.
-
Oh cool....I think a friend might have used one to figure out what the problem is w/ my CB, but we didn't have much success....
Awesome!! Can't wait!!
-
Well I'm bringing more than just that to troubleshoot your issue

For sure Danny, thanks again to you. I heard what you did for Alex on Gold Mountain, pulling him out of the way. Father to father, I really appreciate that. Almost makes up for the coaching on the PA while I was "geocaching". ;)

Christiaan...it was great to see you in 4WD all weekend, and in a Gen 2! Thanks for the support and keeping us in stitches on RS with the Chewbacca call outs. Priceless. Classic that your CB worked and mine didn't! ;D

A big "shout out" and thank you to Doug, s14slide for making everyone who turned out personalized event dog tags.
Definitely above and beyond...serious kudos to you on your first club run! :)
-
Thank you for the great run and getting all this together John. This was a fun learning experience and we are definitely looking forward to more runs with the club. Glad to meet people from the group but names to screen names may take some time ;) Daniel thanks so much for the spotting, Christiaan thanks so much for hollering out "SLIDERS!!!" when we connected :D It was a memorable event ;D
-
Hi, all. 1st up, just want to say sorry we didn't make day 2. Personal stuffs came up. This was our 1st run with SCCX and we had a great time. We would most definitely attend future runs. There were so many new faces to meet, forgive me if I get any real and/or screen names wrong. Many thanks to you all for a fun day.
John/Ghost - many many thanks. what an event to coordinate. I had no idea what to expect, and one can see that you go above and beyond.
Randy - great tail gunner. thank you for all the insight and advice.
Doug/s14slide - thanks for the personalized dog tags. way cool!
Daniel - MANY MANY thanks for the spotting, and advice for dealing with my trucks wanting to lurch. I can't tell you how confused, as a newbie, I got when trying to listen to you and having James talking & directing as well. Oye. LOL It's been decided, we need to work on the husband/wife communications a little bit more....
Mark - thanks for reminding me not to tail gate. Especially behind those that have manuals. I was quite anxious. Still learning. Sometimes I need those reminders.
Enjoyed meeting the wives on the trip: Nilda, Jill and all the others whose names I can't remember. Bummer, I was looking forward to meeting RockinX (yes, in my mere mortal form ;D and Shi819. It would be good to get to know a few more gals in the club.
And, if you are reading this, the guy who asked me why of all gremlins "why stripe" let me know who you are on line again. I couldn't remember your name when talking to James.
Two of my biggest highlights:
Christian...you are a riot. Thanks for all the laffs. From all the chewie sounds, and going forth into the chew-donkie jokes. But, what I won't forget anytime soon...every-time I managed to bounce the sliders off the rocks....Booonnnnngggg....those shout outs....SLIDERS!!!!!...echo,echo,echo.. (Kenny / Steven...they are still in tact ;D )
And, finally... to little Eli
For those 7 or 8 tiny handfuls of shiny, sparkly desert rocks he presented to me as gifts/souvenirs. What a cutie he is.
We are in process of downloading images of the go pro. James is the editor of all that good stuff. I should have some pics posted off my camera by this evening to share. Although I did not take as many as I normally would have because I was driving.
Thank you, each and every one. You all had so much to offer. If I seemed a bit more quiet than I do vs on line postings, it was my turn to look, learn, & listen. You've all done great stuff with your trucks.
-
Gremlin....it was a BLAST to have you two ahead of me and please pass along my thanks to James for helping me get my GOPRO set up....I have plenty of footage from Rattlesnake but it's soooo longgggg I want to edit some of the boring stuff out...
SLIDERS!!!!!
p.s. working on a pic of SCCX's new mascot, the Chew-donkey ;)
-
For sure Danny, thanks again to you. I heard what you did for Alex on Gold Mountain, pulling him out of the way. Father to father, I really appreciate that. Almost makes up for the coaching on the PA while I was "geocaching". ;)
Ummm, yeah, about that....Sorry, I got a little excited about clearing that section on the first shot and then the adrenaline took over. It might have not seemed like it at the time, but I was in full control. I think...
My only request is that Alex join us on all future runs with access to a PA or bull horn. That is one funny and witty young man. He delivered those lines perfectly from the peanut gallery. I'm so bummed we didn't get that exchange on video. Absolutely hilarious!!!
-

I would like to echo your thanks to Doug from me also. Those dog tags are super. Mine is riding proudly on my key ring. Thank you again Doug.

Hey Guys and Gals,
Nilda and I had so much fun. Duh!!! This club is really about the great people in it. John as always keeps it light, safe and FUN. Thanks go out to Doug for very thoughtful dog tags, to Jordan for everything from tailgunning and rounding up the lost Rusisians to truck and radio tips. And thanks to Mark-Kickingtires for his expertise on Jacoby trail, and Christiaan for his humor and everybody for their patience, team work and making it such a great weekend.
Photos to follow.
-
Hey Randy!!
Great job tailgunning on Sat and leading yesterday!!! Great job spotting and keeping eveyone in line while doing random radio checks to make sure we're all still awake....lol!!

I'll just make one statement. The wheels were turned right, and the truck was going left....way left. Everyone of us got the heel out of the way.
I'm glad I got a chance to chat with Alex. He really has it together. You guys are doing a good job John.
-
It went by so fast. Bummed I missed it. ;D
-

Yeah, I had to cancel just before the trip. I was having some work done at my house done and ran across some problems, so I had to let John known I couldn't come. It sounds like it was an awesome trip and I really enjoyed seeing the pictures and hearing about the great camaraderie of SCCX members. Fortunately, there is always a next time, although each Xcursion is unique and has its own special memories, just as CANVAZ II did. Sorry I didn't get to meet up with you all.
Next time for sure Marshann!
-
Aww man, I missed the shenanigans?!
-
Has anybody posted pictures/videos yet? I still need to collect the stuff my friend took but will hopefully post soon!
