I am pretty sure we can do this.

Question, since we are Riverside area, and most of you are south of us...on the way out, where does Silverado Canyon exit out?  Close to 91?

You'll come out on the west side near El Toro. From there you can double back on the 74 or take the 5 to 91. Also I think there is a toll road that get you to the 91 faster than the 5.

The 133 to the 241 will drop you on top of the 91E

Your Added.

I picked mine up at Big 5 sporting Goods. Lots of places sell them, like REI, Adventure 16, Big 5, Any Ranger station in the area of the park, some local businesses near the park.  :)

You only need the Adventure Pass if you're planning on parking and leaving your rig unoccupied for an extended amount of time.

All you need is the full gas tank and good atitude mods.

Maybe the sandwich mod too.

Yeah we probably won't need an Adventure Pass for this trip.  But when your ready you can get them at Big 5 and such.  Check with a buddy and get an Annual buy one for $30 and a second one for $5 deal.

Some of the Amazon deals here in link form:

Midland Handheld All-In-One - For 12 Volt Plug N' Play (http://www.amazon.com/Midland-75-822-Channel-CB-Way-Radio/dp/B00000K2YR/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1352998006&sr=1-2&keywords=cb+radio)

Midland Standard 40 Channel - For Hard Wiring (http://www.amazon.com/Midland-1001Z-40-Channel-CB-Radio/dp/B00024DIDK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1352998006&sr=1-1&keywords=cb+radio)

Midland Magnetic Mount Antenna with Coaxial Connector (works with both radios above) (http://www.amazon.com/Midland-18-2442-Mobile-CB-Antenna/dp/B0000ATNH3/ref=pd_sim_e_3)

Firestik Antenna Kit Page (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=firestick+cb+antenna+kit)

The Club uses FRS for some runs still, but IMO CB is the better option for several reasons.

Getting a CB installed, whether it is temporary through the 12V in car outlet (cigarette lighter for those of us over 40) for power and a magnetic mount for the antenna, or hard wired to the battery with an installed Firestik antenna, will help you communicate much clearer and reliably than FRS.
Installing a CB is a great first mod, that familiarizes you with the basic electronic principles of your Xterra as well as some of the tools necessary to build a good tool kit.

These are all things that SCCX promotes...familiarity with your truck, a well prepared driver...and an empty wallet. ;)

It is up to the trail leader to set the comms of choice for each run and follow through with channel sets etc.

This is also the preferred method of comms for several other SoCal Off Road Clubs (JustRuns, Tierra Del Sol) so if you choose to run with them in the future, you are good to go.

Once you are comfortable with the CB...I will gently nudge all members in the direction of The 35 Question Test To Clear Communications Forever.  ;)

Thanks for the suggestion.  I was looking at the hand held from Amazon.  I know nothing about CB.  So, is the hand held plus the magnetic mount antenna all I need?  Do I need cable or does the antenna come with cable that is long enough?  Do I need any other adapter?

I know if I ever go on the light trails with you fine folks, I would need a CB.  So, I've been looking.

Yes, handheld is fine in this case with the mag mount.

Mag mount comes with the coax already attached.

You would just need to plug in the power cord to the 12 volt plug in your center console (Gen 2 Xterra), screw the antennas coax onto the radio, then fish the coax through a door, and stick the antenna to the roof.

Don't go alone.
Act a little "sketchy"

I would venture to say If we on OTT by 0830 as planned, we should be off NLT 5.

Trail conditions / Group will dictate. The nice thing is, if time runs longer, You can always jam out down Silverado Canyon or head south back to Ortega so you can make your Poker Game. You'll just have to split the winnings with the attendees.  ;D

I am tentative, pending how my work meeting goes later this evening! I hope I get some good news!

Sliders or skids needed for this run?

Are there any obstacles to play on on this run?

Hey Lava or RB

Are there any obstacles to play on on this run?

There are a few at the OHV and a few off shoots on the trail to play on, but other than that its sightseeing and wheelin.

SLIDERS are always recommended, and skids shouldn't be needed unless you plan to play hard at the OHV.

If you don't have sliders, we can guide you through any rough spots. But its ultimately you rig, so its your call. ;)

A little rain would be great to help keep the dust down so long as it's not enough to get the gates closed.  I think Justin knows how to find out before we go.  So stay tuned or is that tooned ??? 8)

I'm down to get muddy.  I've missed a lot not being on the forums for a little while.  Still can't do any crawling, still got that broke motor mount.  Unfortunately, that motor mount breakage from Cleghorn cracked one of my A/C lines.  Good thing the heat is gone.

I thought I read somewhere that ka/sr mounts are the same as the vg33.  Gotta look and see if I can find where I read it but if they do I have spares from my drift car you can have.

Dang guys this came up fast. I can't wait to finally break in my x. I'm still waiting on my cb antenna mount so hopefully that shows up soon. Quick question how bad would the run be with out havin a compressor mine is still being shipped out so I won't have it, should I just pick up a cheapie until my nice one shows up? Keep me as tentative but there's a real good chance ill be at the meet up spot!

You can borrow mine too. That should make 4 compressors, going at once. You'll be completely aired up in about 4 minutes. Just make sure you wait for the rest of us.  ;)

OK, after 2 plus days of soaking moisture...I feel its in the best interest of the club to re-schedule this run.

The OHV will likely be closed and we may see some gate closures along the trail as well. Keep in mind the Tread Lightly concept and with the amount of rigs we plan to run through the trails can easily become rutted and ruined for others.

Not to mention, we have some 2 wheel drive friends along with us, and the south side of Santiago Peak going up can get hairy. Add Slick muddy dust layer on the top and its a bad combo for a disaster waiting to happen.

I say we vote it as a group. I will still lead/attend either way, but reserve the right to pull the plug on the run at any time should conditions worsen.

What say ye?

I am out as well.  "Someone" is turning 13 as well as a load of science homework.

Running in the mud is okay...mud AND rain not so much...IMO.

I'm out too. Recovering someone in the mud and rain is the worst. Plus carrying my two kids they will need to stretch thier legs at some point and get all nasty. I'd deffenatly like to do this run so a reschedule is my vote.
Thanks Justin for weighing the hazards.

Im down for ether way but i running really light on the recovery gear so it would suck to have problems. also i wasnt able to find whatever the adapter is to attach my cb antenna to my radio if we do this run tomorrow does anyone have one or is close to a place that sells them. ill give some money for time and gas, i went everywhere i could and everyone just laughed at me for even asking about cb parts. and since i work from 9am-1am every day its hard as hell to stop at places.

Good call Justin...no reason to have the kiddos and wives tromping around in the wet weather.  We will look forward to your rescheduling based upon what works for everyone.

Nice job managing the Xcursion, thank you.

Glad you could show us around cooks corner. Can't wait to see some pictures!

I'm gonna need a Ton of quarters for the carwash to get the inches of mud out of and off of my truck!!

Need to order floor mat liners and snorkel for sure!! ;D

***Note to self, Add a pair of emergency flip flops in my equipment bag for outings...you never know what shit you"ll get into when in the great outdoors!*** :P

I learned three things on this trip:
I should always check the site an hour before I go. (I didn't even know it was cancelled)
The best times happen by accident.  (My ignorance is bliss) We had a ball!
Drugs and 4-wheeling don't mix.  (We found and saved some 'Dudes' from completely rolling there truck over a cliff)

I still vote we reschedule when they open the gates, there's still a lot more fun to be had.
