dude, armor > just about everything else

sliders & skids are just about mandatory for some of the runs we do....powertanks....not so much

Well OBA s required and I want to use a tank instead of a compressor.  That and I have stock skids.  I know they are not the best but better ones are in line after these two.

I think OBA can be a little further down the list. Waaaaaaay further down the list.

You guys have to remember I am in the military.  If there is a list and says to go on the club runs I need abc, I'm not going to buy xyz first.  I'm just trying to go by the list.  I think most say sliders are first so ill wait till next month and pick up some white knuckle sliders.

Right you are that being able to air up after a run is a top priority.  Here are the guidelines for attending a club run.  SCCX Xcursion Guidelines (http://www.sccxterra.com/wiki/index.php?title=Xcursion_Guidelines).  The guidelines do not require that you have armor in order to attend a run.  When a trip is posted, the trail difficulty and equipment required should be listed.  If the run involves rock crawling or there is the possibility of damaging vital parts under your truck, then sliders and skids would be needed.

However, everyone's offroading interests are different.  I have seen many times where a member has modified their truck to follow what others are doing.  But when they get out with the club, they find that rock crawling may not be their thing.  Maybe they prefer mud pits, sand dunes, desert racing, beach (Pismo), snow, or just to get off the beaten track and explore areas they couldn't otherwise access without an offroad capable vehicle.  They then end up having spent a lot of money to build their truck with mods that do not meet their interests.  It is always best to go on a few runs with the club or others to find out what interests you most.  Some people may think they would enjoy one aspect of offroading, but once they do it, they decide otherwise.

Although OBA may be more than you need to attend a club run, you have a very valid point to do it right the first time.  I would tend to go that route as well.

Good question Rich.

I would go with sliders first, and rely on the SCCX buddy system to air up if you have to.

Okay, I stand corrected.  Maybe we can update the SCCX Guidelines?

Blah!  Next question who can weld these on and about how much does it cost?  I think i am gonna order them end of April and I will have them by about 15 March.  White Knuckle said two week lead time.

Off Road Warehouse in Encinitas (i think?) is a place you might want to look into...

And trust me bud.....we're not trying to break the bank...we just want ya protected so you have a good time....and you can borrow my compressor every time we ride together if that means you're safe w/ sliders and skids

I don't think so...I agree with the guidelines, but Rich/Biker's Cage is skipping a few steps.  He wants to main line right to the Powertank, which I can't argue with.

My personal "air up" journey is the old fashioned route -

-crappy plug in "12V/melts in your rig, not your hands" compressor

-then on to the hand me down Viair 90, sold to me by Paul and used dutifully for 2 years until it met its duty cycle maker in the desert.

-current upgrade of the VIAIR 400P, bought on Amazon for $200 (thanks NPGTech)

-current super-upgrade of the Powertank PT-10 package A set up. (Rich is skipping right to this step, yes, here)

So, to each their own.  I still like the recommended path for others Marshann.  Easy breezy compressed air.  ;D

There's a dude in Pasadena that'll weld these on for a 12 pack. ;)

If you had just started with a WARN POWERPLANT HD this would have been a shorter thread :)

Everyone's right!  Except ChrisHayneusa, he's full of sh**. :D  If you are absolutely sure that you are going to stay on graded trails or sand and not want to go over something stupid, like I always do, then get the great compressor.  Otherwise Sliders are your best insurance, and they look cooler than OBA.  By the time you really need to air down, you will probably need sliders too.  Buy or borrow a POS compressor till then.

The WARN POWERPLANT IS SO  BIGGG it can be used as a front bumper.
might even be big enough for a lower rad skid too!!!!

You need a double barrel, 100% duty cycle, never have to refill, bad MF pump!

SLiders first! OBA is a little more like a really nice thing to have. Its nice to get off the trail, air up and be on your way. WHen you are ready to pull the triggher on a power tank or some other OBA set up I am more than willing to hook you up with some super SCCX club discounts. I got a website that I sell that stuff on! just PM me!

Sorry again.  I just thought BikersCage was asking if his priority should be to get sliders or if he should be able to air up on runs, since he mentioned being able to air up was on the required "list" whereas sliders were not.  I realize now that that was not what he was asking.  I thought he was going to go the route of build your own anyways.  So yeah, go for the sliders.  Someone on a run may share their air with you.  Although if it is a compressor, it may take a while for everyone to get aired up since 8 tires will need to be filled on one compressor.  But I'm sure everyone will understand.  This is a good group of people.  :)

I already bought the sliders and since it was at a discount I might be able to build the power tank next month.  I got the ones Erik was selling.
