I just wanted to say thanks for volunteering your garage / place for our mod day, _DuffMan_________
You are an absolute treasure to this community and your name will be passed on from X owner to X owner....children will sing songs about you.....forums will have long, endless threads about you...
I, personally, will offer up my pizza-making services, as well as my alcohol purchasing ability, and feed/imbibe as many SCCX'ers that show up to your place, DUFFMAN, just to say THANK YOU FOR BEING AWESOME!
Now, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who will show up...but, I have UCA's and rear shocks to throw on....
So....please let me know precisely what date you plan on letting us hold the mod day, DUFFMAN, just so, ya know...we can plan accordingly...
Forever in debt...

We have room at the shop in fullerton. I will just have to get the ok from the owner.
-
Let's see if Randy's name fits the empty spots....
HEY RANDY!!! WAS THAT YOU WHO VOLUNTEERED TO HOST A MOD DAY!??!?!!??! ::) :o ::) :o ??? ??? ;D ;D
-
You know it's me! It's your pizza that sold me cuz my X don't need a thing :P Yeah right.
Pick a date before June 10 or after July 4 (or both) and we will rock it with a socket ::)
Sorry, I got on a roll there
-
How far north does rbduffer live. I will come up and support. I can bring tools, jack, stands... and the knowledge i have earned from doing all my stuff myself!
-
Your also welcome at my place.
-
Randy is in fallbrook

I hope we get more than one person interested....I have a few things to wrench on but I think there are others who need work too....
**IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS MOD DAY, PLEASE POST UP WITH...
-WHAT WEEKEND WORKS FOR YOU (BEFORE JUNE 10 OR AFTER JULY 4)
-WHAT YOU NEED TO DO (headlight fluid.....wiper calipers)
-WHAT YOU INTEND ON BRINGING TO DUFFMAN'S PALACE TO THANK HIM FOR HOSTING *I'm bringing and making my pizza....seems to be popular ;)

June 8th
Suspension Lift
(Front coilovers pre-assembled)
Rear Shocks
Rear Lift Shackles

Seeing as I'm 19 I can't really bring beer lol otherwise i would, but I could bring soda, or have my mom bake cookies or something.
-
I'm in as long as I get my leaf packs before the day.
So, I need to replace my stock rear leaf packs with a full deaver leaf pack. Should be pretty straightforward. I'll bring some brews and snacks as well as a jack, stands, and hand tools.
-
I will show up just for Randy's great jokes and Christians pizza. oh and hopefully to install a bumper. :)
Sent using Al Gore's internet
-
Hey Jordan, maybe we can take a hammer to that fender of yours :D
The 8th will be the last chance until July so get your siht together and we'll do it!
-
i hammered it a little bit, and resecured all the screws for the plastic bumper so it looks semi presentable :D still searching for a replacement night armor fender to get away with having to worry about color matching the hood and door.
-

June 8th

Tools? I have a hammer, if your X looks like a nail I can help with that :)
Food? Chicken wings, chips/salsa
-
This is starting to look like a mod filled day. Randy, do you have enough room?
more importantly, do we have enough tools, people, and beer to get all this done?
-
So far, we have:
+MODS+
Adio-

++TOOLS++
BIKERSCAGE-
I can bring tools, jack, stands... and the knowledge i have earned from doing all my stuff myself!
SD_Frontier-
I'll bring a jack, stands, and hand tools.
Knightrider-
Tools and reading rainbow knowledge ;)
+++GRUB/SNACKS/BREWS+++
xxSVxx-

So, it sounds like we have the food and mods parts covered; tools sound relatively covered as well since the ones guys are bringing sound extensive....
Are we missing anything? Lemme know!!
-
Ive got tools, jackstands and a jack I could bring up. Plus my finite wisdom and stuff I learned on reading rainbow.

UPDATED!
-
No problem guys. We can work on at least 5 rigs and park 10. I have air and some tools for it. Please bring all the tools that you think you will need and post up any special tools might want. Someone will have it and can bring it. My tools will serve as back up for the knuckle- heads and you will be required to deposit your keys or girlfriend at check-out :-* I don't have a BBQ and fridge space is limited so coolers are king. Just bring a team sprit and a good time and your in ;D
-
I have minimal knowledge of mechanics and was going to pay a mechanic friend to help me install my OEM Offroad skids, Calmini 2" shackle & spacer lift, shocks front and rear.
Again, total noob. Don't wanna be a burden >.< If the club would be willing to assist with any of this, I can bring beer and food?
Lots of beer.
Either way, may come down to watch the other installs & gain some knowledge. And to bug Randy. ;D
-
Updated again!!
-
Hey Joey/Odinson, let's see what we can get done with our 'pros' before you pay a 'real' pro ;) Knightrider and I have done everything from suspension to antenna mods ... With mostly positive to mixed reviews :D
If it's too long of a hike, Toro may be closer and he is very reasonable, with beer. ;)
-
ill bring all the required tools, breaker bar, hammer, and hopes and dreams to break those stubborn bolts. i even have a magical sawzall for cutting ubolts and UCA bolts.
-
Awesome RB, thanks very much! Looking forward to using this mechanic set I bought, haha.
+MODS+
....
Odinson- (maybe if he figures out that's what MOD DAYS are for)
install my OEM Offroad skids, Calmini 2" shackle & spacer lift, shocks front and rear.
....
;D
-
Thanks for setting this up and volunteer space!
I will bring portable BBQ, and plan to stop by Harbor Freight this weekend. At least jack stands and breaker bar with 19mm socket is on my list, maybe I'll get a bigger hammer while I'm at it :)
-
Hey Hennie,
Big Hammers I got! And we only need the the BBQ if someone wants to cook. So if nobody speaks up, don't worry about it. Thanks.
Sound like a great group, looking forward to it. Plenty of room for all.
-
Hey RB is there somewhere in the area I could get an alignment after?
-
So where is this going to be at?
-
adio. more than likely your alignment wont be too bad, even after new coilovers and uca, my alignment was still within spec. lifting mostly affects your camber, not so much your toe. toe kills tires and makes the truck unstable over bumps. camber just looks funny.
also, whats your poison randy? any favorites? ill bring a 6 pack, and a roy rogers for the underage crowd. :)
-
Adio, I can show you how to do your own alignment if necessary, old school.
Ultrapac, In Fallbrook near the Fallbrook golf course. I'll PM everyone the address soon.
Jordan, Stella, New Castle, St. Pauli Girl, any good lager. Hey, you're a helper, let the modders bring the beer!
-
Jordan, Stella, New Castle, St. Pauli Girl, any good lager. Hey, you're a helper, let the modders bring the beer!
Amen! These shall all be accounted for.
Just ordered my Cam bolts, glad Adio asked about the alignment and reminded me! Hah.
-
I just ordered my lift and CB radio set up. I'll definitely have my lift by the 8th, and hopefully the CB set up as well.
-
Modders!
I have a question; I have new-to-me UCA's with new bushings for Saturday; is there an easy way to get the new bushings into the UCA's? Should I try to get that handled before Saturday? Is there a fancy tool I need for this?
Thanks...
-Christiaan
-
You should be able to remove the bushings along with the bolt sleeve just by pulling them apart with pliers. They are just pressed or pushed together using a rubber mallet. The only thing I can't remember is if you have to remove the zerk fitting first.
-
Normally I would use a press to remove and install bushings but it can be done if careful with a mallet. My SLR UCA on my first gen were a pita when I tried with a mallet so I waited to install them at work where we had a press and it was easy going. I would try it and if you can't get it, find a press and get it done.

Well, it looks as if I may be 'Modding' a new alternator. Apparently crossing creeks @ 35MPH is hard on the bearings. I thought that I was just cooling them off from two days on the Mohave Desert :-\ I'll see if I can find one in time.
-
Well dammit....if you're experiencing that, I need to check mine ASAP....I have a penchance for testing how much water I can displace with a 5000lb vehicle....
And DAMN is it fun!!!!! ;D
-
So I stumbled across this thread on TNX today...
http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=144
Grease....any specific kind I should be picking up or can I literally just stop at O'Rielly and get a tub o' lard for however much?
""You need a 14mm x 90mm 1.50 bolt but you can substitute
a 9/16 x 3" grade 8 bolt if necessary, this is what i did, to avoid special
ordering the metric bolt, and it works perfectly.""
I will print that out and take it into DeNault's hardware to make sure I have at least the 9/16th bolt....
Anything else? Sawzall? I know I have a few friends who have them....should I bring one?
-
Are you talking about UCA install? If so, I've got a spare metric bolt so the factory nut can be reused. Also i have a mini sawzall that makes the job cake. But honestly its not that hard to move the steering out of the way either, making it possible to just remove the stock bolt and reuse it.
FYI, if you assemble the bushings in the total chaos arms, lube everything very well, you cant use too much lube. And pack it in between the bushings. And you will need a grease gun to regularly grease the arms to stop the squeaking. Any lube will do but I prefer synthetic
Sent using Al Gore's internet
-
Yeah, it would be just the UCA's....haven't purchased spacers just yet ;)
I think I'm gonna pick up a bolt or two anyway....just in case...but thanks Jordan :)
Also, I think I have help with the bushings on Thursday night, so I think they'll be all lubed up and ready to glide on Saturday...
Have we considered a post-mod day trial run??
Just a thought!!.....
-
Arg. I have the Advanced Coilover Kit from PRG I need to install and I'm out of town this weekend. *head-desk*
Going to need to find another date to get them on as I don't have all the right tools and jacks to do it at home. :/
Have fun guys and hope to see you up here on the mountain soon!
-
That's a bummer you can't make it....a perfect time to strap that bad boy on!!
No matter tho....certainly won't be the last MOD DAY....trust me on that one!
:)
-
Post mod day trial run sounds awesome, any ideas on what trail for it?
-
Typically we run late on the mods :-\ But if there's time, we have Anza Borego's Oriflamme trail to the south, Bee canyon trail to Idyllwild in the NE and a secret road to Hell's Kitchen on Ortega Hwy to the NW. Let's see how it goes.
-
I'm out for the mod day. My parts haven't arrived and probably won't.
-
Sooo I just called Nisstec and my shackles were supposed to be back from powdercoating on monday but they still aren't there on wednesday. I'm hoping they'll get them today and ship everything out so they can get here by hopefully saturday.
-
I may be in or out. Depending on the next day or so. I just got emergency orders to deploy for a couple of months very soon.
I am going to try and make it, but we will see.
-
If deployment sucks, then emergency deployment really sucks>:( Sorry Rich, hope you can still make it.
For you guys without parts showing up on time, we can help the few with parts and then a trail run becomes a necessity ;)
-
**I PM'D EVERYONE THE LOCATION ADDRESS AND TIMES...
IF YOU DID NOT GET A PM FROM ME, POST UP OR HIT ME UP WITH A PM AND I'LL GLADLY GIVE YOU THE ADDRESS AND TIMES**
Can't wait to see everyone there!!
-Christiaan

I would recommend stopping at AutoZone or Pep Boys for a tube of green waterproof grease. The stuff works really well.
For all my engine bay stuff, I use a 50/50 mix of green waterproof grease and red high temp grease.
-
I have:
2x Prothane 19-1750 Super Grease
Sold by Diverse Suspension Technologies
Condition: New
On the way. UCA's will be dripping from this stuff by Saturday...
-
Put me down as a maybe. I can bring tools, experience, and a few sodas. Will there be a BBQ grill there? PM me please.
-
No worries, I'm bringing my port-a-barbie, will save you a steak size spot in the middle :)
-
I have everything needed for my cb radio! Any chance someone could bring a SWR meter?
-
I always have one in my truck, I'm lazy and just stuff it under the seat.

I dont know how long ill be staying I have my son today. But ill be up there for a little while.

Thank you Randy for hosting...nice to see/meet everyone for sure.
Big thanks to Jordan, Randy, and Christiaan for the help with my wonky leaf pack bolt. Unexpected wrenching on my truck and good karma for all.

We missed the great lunch, but saw remnants of homemade pizza (xxSVxx), and chicken wings (sdcalKLR) for all to nosh on.
After a serious session of bench racing, everyone headed out for a quick run north on the Tuaca Truck Trail (well, it's not Tuaca but I just returned from Moab and couldn't remember the name...;))
And one more roadside mod...reminds me of the time I "Left My Phone In Mojave." :):):)

After a quick roadside repair we all hit the road again.

And off into the twilight we drove
Again...great meeting the new folks (Joey/Odinson, Jonathan/adio) and seeing familiar faces too. Getting away from our keyboards/dumbphones for the day and talking shop along with a dash of wheeling and CB rag chewing is good for the soul.
Thanks everyone. :)

Oh noes what happened with christians X? I hope nothing bad i helped him work on it.
If you look really close at the picture of the X's on the road...just track your eyes along the yellow double line...there are two little objects in the road...those would be two of four lug nuts in the road.
-
That could'ave ended poorly, doesn't look like it did though.
-
Is that jack on an AOE slider?!?!????
-
Is that jack on an AOE slider?!?!????
Indeed it is! Which will soon be on my X :D the jack wasn't quite sturdy in the dirt so Randy and John improvised. 8)
-
Might I suggest Hi-Lift w/Off road base?
-
Like John said, what a great group of guys!! Everyone pitched in everywhere; we had home made pizza(Christiaan), sausage from South Africa, and chicken wings from... An unfortunate chicken(Hennie). I mean Hennie brought the chicken, he himself is not an unfortunate chicken. He is in fact very brave, but I digress. We still got a lot of work done in-between meals and pops. Thanks to everyone who came just to offer their selfless help. And, no tools were lost :D We will definitely do it again!
-
My wife is now pissed i read sausage from south Africa, before we met she took a trip there and stayed for 3 months. She now wants some... who was it who had it and where can it be foudn locally.
-
What an amazing day....amazing group.....the turn out was great, as was the work and chatter...
Those who either brought stuff to wrench on or just came to help....a HUGE THANK YOU
I'd personally like to thank...
-DUFFMAN...thank you for opening up Duff's Landing for the X crowd...the host with the most!!!
-Rich (Bikerscage)....dude, you helped me soo much....I'll fly to friggin South Africa and pick up those sausages for your wife myself if I have to
-Jordan (Knightrider).....thanks for helping w/ the rear and helping me get more acquainted with the whole 'where is the spare' game....and for helping with the emergency mod on the side of the road mod ;)
Really, everyone who came contributed something....this group makes me so damn proud to be a part of it....to see the selflessness that happens at events like this......it makes me wanna do whatever I can to be a part of.....
Thanks everyone for coming out and I can't wait to see you all on the trails and soon!!!!

Seriously a HUGE THANKS to everyone who came out and made this such an awesome Mod Day! Randy/Duff man is a host among hosts, and jumped under my truck to help along with Rich/Bikerscage and Jordan/Knightrider while Christiaan/xxSVxx and the others wrenched and commanded from the captains chairs. John/GhostX even made it up for the last minute repairs and to transfer some sliders to my trunk (soon to be welded!). Can't thank everyone enough for your assistance and patience as I walked in with 0 knowledge but left feeling much more comfortable with my truck.
Good folk, good food, good drink, and a dusk trail run to end it all... An awesome day. I caught a few pics that I'll post later. Can't wait for the next run! SCCX rules!
-
Great mod day, I definitely learned a lot. After watching the guys work on Joey's lift I got a pretty good feel of how to install my lift on my own truck, and duffman was extremely helpful with the CB install! Thanks for hosting Randy! And thanks for the awesome pizza Christian! Probably one of the best I've had. I look forward to seeing you guys out on the trail or a mod day again.
