Date for event:February 26-28 2016.
Quote from AA thread:
The Vision:
1. No Fees: Come as you are!
2. Laid Back: No hard schedule other than the date.
3. Mountain Man Rendezvous and Adventurist Meet and Greet.
4. Swap Meet: Bring things to trade or sell or barter (this is NOT a commercial event!).
5. Meet People: Network, maybe teach each other a few things and check out cool rigs.
6. Real Bonfire Chat: With a real fire. Share food and beverages of your choice.
7. Desert Rendezvous Cleanup: We aim to pack out more than we pack in!
ROUGH TIMELINE OF EVENTS:
FRI:
1200 Arrivals
1800 Happy Hour sponsored by Mojoe Outfitters followed by Campfire
SAT:
0900 Desert Cleanup, muster at dumpster
1200 Desert Cleanup Trash Photo back at dumpster/Group Photo. Lunch.
1600 Fire up the BBQ's/Dutch Ovens
1700 Rendezvous Potluck/Dutch Oven Competition sponsored by TemboTusk
1800 Main Group Photo followed by Desert Cleanup Raffle
1900 Campfire
SUN:
0900 Steel Shoot sponsored by: TBD
PLEASE do not abandon your trash bag/s in camp for "someone else" to remove, unfortunately it has happened in the past and that was not cool... please help me on this important logistical portion of the cleanup and pack out more than you pack in.
BLM is providing a dumpster for us to fill, but we still need to be 100% self sufficient and uphold our good name with the BLM!
SIX YEARS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE CLEANING UP TRAILS ON PUBLIC LANDS!
They do a desert cleanup and each bag of trash gets you a raffle ticket.
The cleanup area is a popular shooting area around the Plaster City mine railroad just south of split mountain road.
the dutch oven competition is a great happening, and worth the trip itself.
signups is limited to 120 people, and its already around 90.

Woo hoo, looks like I made the list. 8) Hopefully this will make up for me having to back out of MRV last time.

That site still hates me and won't let me register for it to try and get a spot for that event.
-
I will be on a geology camping trip that weekend. :'(

Are you going Fri or Sat morning??
Are we camping as a SCCX group??

Geeze... this snuck up on me. I'm pretty sure I'm moving the first week of March, so there's no way I'm going to have free time during the last weekend of February to attend this. :( I guess I'll go ahead and cancel now so someone on the waiting list can get a spot. Have fun out there guys!
-
Jay is just excited
Like a Dog off a leash lol
-
Bump.
Everyone still in? (Besides Joe)
Look for this.

Give or Take

See ya'll there.
Randy, from your house the fastest route will be to take the 76. Here are some WRITTEN directions for your consideration. They should jive with your Tomas Guide.
Head south on Gird Rd toward Vía Del Cielo
2.5 mi
Turn left onto CA-76 E
2.8 mi
Continue onto CA-76 E
34.5 mi
Turn left onto CA-79 N
4.3 mi
Turn right onto San Felipe Rd
16.8 mi
Turn left onto CA-78 E
22.0 mi
Turn right onto Split Mountain Rd
Destination will be on the left
8.2 mi
If you want to look at where you're going on the Google Maps, punch in these coordinates.
33.036952, -116.097180
You're basically going to get to the 78, turn right on Split Mountain Rd, Turn left onto dirt to follow rail road tracks after about 8 miles.
The AAV group will be on your left on the north side of the train tracks about a mile in.
-
Thanks Steve, see ya there.
-
Did you guys take any pictures? How did the event go?
-
Quick recap: These guys are geared up for living out of their rigs indefinitely; solar panels, trailers and RRTs were the norm. Great group of self sufficient folks who love to BBQ. We all worked hard picking up 1.7 tons of gun range trash in three hours. Then it was chill time. Some stranger from our fire circle told me the next morning that he and I were the only sober ones :o He musta been drunk ;)
Sorry, no pics, I was too tired.
-
The Little Man Picked up a black trash bag full of shotgun shells, It's amazing the $h!t people leave in the desert.
some guy had a full on chicken wing kitchen going on >:D

Indeed!
Even more for those dabbling in Instagram!
Cool group to hang out with, got the feeling off-roading is just the means to get to the campsite, and campsite is where the fun is. Now I need so much more equipment and camp comforts
