Steve C is looking for a Mod Day next Saturday for his sister's dog's therapist of some such, with a Fronty.
I told him that my place is only open to members in good standing >:D
So for Steve's sake, is anyone else interested in a mod day so that Steve can sneak his sorta in-law with sorta an Xterra? :o?

Good point, I think I was thinking for some reason it was for the 20th... I need more coffee.
-
I should be free that Saturday, I'm most likely in. :)
-
I might be there...need to get a heart shaped box to the Duffman.

I can lend a hand, or pair of eyes. Heck, maybe i'll Amazon Prime some CB supplies and at least have some COMMS in the truck until I go HAM.
-
I'll try my best to be there. I'll know for sure a day or two in advance. I don't have any mods to do, but would love to come hang out with the gang. Seems like I haven't seen everyone in forever, even though it's only been like 2 and a half months. I just missed some great runs during that time.
-
What time do these things regularly kick off? I've got a set of Hella 500's (hid)I picked up that are mounted but need to be wired in. I'm happy to help wrench and could bring the Cholula!

Thanks Randy!
I look forward to seeing everyone.
Heater core for sister's dog's therapist and Jordan and I are going to have a shock party.
I may be swayed to bring the skottle and some carne asada.

just heard about this mod day from a topic I started on trying to install some new suspension. I'm pretty sure my stuff won't be here by the 13th, but I'd like to come meet and greet with some of you and get some pro tips to help me with my install. The dates too far out right now for me to know for sure if I can make it, but I'll post up when I find out.
Cheers!
-
New guy here. Wish I could make it but stupid family obligations. How often do you guys do MOD days?
-
Desert is too dang hot for this upcoming weekend. I'm gonna be there with The Boy and Nasty Jeep Danny says he wants to come along even though he's too lazy to register on this site.
Besides I have a J-Pole antenna (Thanks Duffman!) I want to throw up in one of his trees and see what kind of coverage I can get.

No set schedule. Varies as needs arise. Some are at the Duff's house (usually beer and a good attitude are all he requires). Some other Mod days pop up randomly at guys houses.
If you have a driveway and garage, you can host your own Mod Day. Just post day and request help (if needed).
If not, you can also post up asking for help. This group is pretty awesome about someone lending a hand, wrench, and mod spot.

If you are going to bring Carne Asada, can I chip in some $$$? Or can I bring anything else along to toss into the mix?
-
Too bad Tony, we always count on you.
But good news for Steve's whoever, we definitely have a quorum. Game ON! O0
I will be building my roof rack, and mounting assorted LED floods that were discussed at the last Carnivore meet lol
We will kick off this meeting of mechanical minds at 9am. If you would like to come earlier, DON'T >:D
I need my beauty rest. PM if you need my address and #.

You mean to tell me you aren't going to bring them along and make them turn wrenches? What kind of a son are you??

Lemme know if you can attend for a minute or two; I have that fuse box we spoke about, and I'm ready to install it so I can get my electrical mess straightened up...thx :)

Hey I have a J-Pole my father in law made for me I need to figure out how to attach to my house. Though my FT8900 is in my truck and soon to be transferred to the Xterra soon. =( I need a 2m/70cm for the house. Also I have that same handheld. (Though I think everyone does.) =)

Sounds like a plan. I've got a 3 car garage and driveway space. I'm sure I'll host a mod day in the future.. Nothing better then hanging out with cool people and working on similar vehicles..
Oh god it's starting all over again.. The 4x4 addiction.. I thought I was over it.. lol

Will do, the monkey has been reminding me of this since he caught wind of the mod day. He has several different motivations, one he wants to do this work which I think is great and two on Friday he should have his full license and can drive there by himself. Three, he has probably caught wind there will be food associated with wrench turning.

Regarding the hippo - for those who have not experienced this firsthand (and I don't mean in a video):
I have some friends who are keepers at the San Diego Zoo. One time my wife and I were invited to a "behind the scenes" tour of the hippo area. They have a separate pool that is not part of the public viewing area, where they can keep a hippo that for one reason or another is not on public view. This area is surrounded by 20' high concrete walls (think about limiting air circulation and thus concentrating odors), and you are separated from the hippo by a gate made of thick steel bars. You are standing on a sloped concrete ramp that is wet, with metal grating on the ground to sort-of increase your traction. We were warned ahead of time that if the hippo should come out of the water, make his way towards the gate, then turn his back towards us and start rotating his tail in a fan-like manner, that we should "run for our lives".
Hippos eat a high-fiber diet, and nothing is firm in their world. The fan-like action of the tail serves to aerate things. I can't begin to describe how bad the smell was, especially since a bit of it landed on the back of my jacket, but it took a while for someone to notice where it was. Also, I guess I didn't turn around quite fast enough, as a small particle landed on the inside of the lens hood of my camera.
I can tell you from first-hand experience that it gives a whole new meaning to the term "when the shit hits the fan".

I don't think I'm going to make it over on Saturday after all. Was really hoping to pop in for a little bit and even planned to bring the family along. But as we're getting closer and closer to escrow close date, the problems with the transaction are mounting and stuff needs to get done. First it was that I had to replace the door from my garage into my house because the stupid cat door my wife made me install is a breach of the firewall, and therefore the FHA appraiser wouldn't approve the buyers' loan to fund. Now, we're dealing with a shady termite company that wants to charge us an arm and leg to fumigate the entire house because they found evidence of termite damage in a 4" square area on an exterior trim board. I swear that whole termite inspection industry is a scam... they just look for whatever they can to prove that you "might" have a major infestation, and then they say that their recommended treatment is to tent and fumigate the entire house because they "don't know how bad the problem could be." Trouble is, once that gets spelled out in a legally binding report that gets recorded to the buyers as part of the escrow process, the buyer wants nothing less than the best and expects you to sleep in a hotel for 3 nights and sell off a kidney so that your house can be filled with poison. Man, I thought it was hard to buy a house but it's amazingly harder (and super expensive) to sell one... these rip off companies exploit the legalities behind home transactions because they all want their slice of the pie that is your equity. Sorry, rant over.

Where are you located? My dumb girl ass got myself like 75% through a new head unit install and hit a standstill. I work in IT (shut up) but automotive electronics are beyond me. Anyone that could help would be my hero

Randy is located in Fallbrook,San Diego. It's a bit of a drive from Big Bear, but a lot of the group will be there working on stuff and willing to help.

My standard top o' the stairs shot of the day :D It was awesome hanging out as always!

Gangster..

Another great turnout at the Fallbrook garage. We had more guys show up just to work than we did projects O0
Jordan, Hennie and Alex saved the group lotsa $$, time and head aches. I got to harass The Boy (which took my attention away from Steve C), and break out my old SAE wrenches on the Jeep. What a great community. THIS is America!!!

When I first saw the dash coming off, I misread it as "blower resistor" and I was confused. Reading correctly can be your friend. ;)

That is sick! It is hard to believe it takes that much effort to replace a heater core. I'm glad it all went back together. Thanks for the pics!
I hope I can make the next build day. I'm still recovering from a holiday injury (dislocated ankle) 4 more weeks before I can start rehab...
Cheers,
Hank
-
Eh I just walked around and gathered ideas for future mods most of the time, and helped Steve a bit with his new shocks :) Jordan was the MVP of the day by far diving into the dash and getting that heater core replaced, it was like magic walking by each time seeing things go together, it would take me a full weekend to do the same thing, ha :D
