Hey guys. What brand/type of coax are you using for your hams? Are you guys just using RG-58 and not worried about any signal/power loss since the runs are under 20' ?
-
That's what I use.
-
I want to install my sirus antenna but I don't want to go through pulling everything apart multiple times.. I need to find a place locally that carries that coax and I'll just run it now and put ends on it later when I get the Antenna mounts and antennas put on.

I've had great service from these guys. They might not have a location super close but it's a place to start.

HRO is a good place.. Sucks it's 1 1/2 hours from me. Though I don't know if I'll be doing any of that stuff this weekend so I may just order the cable over the internet. I've read that 18' is pretty sufficient, so if I up it and get a 50' roll and run it I'll have plenty of extra. I don't know when I'll have the antenna mount so I will just have to have the coax ran and tucked away uintil I'm ready.

Check out AES ham on the internets...Google Amateur Electronic Supply.
Their Las Vegas location ships quickly, and in California you usually get your stuff in 2-3 days.

You should be able to get your coax in 25' rolls so you don't have all that extra sitting around. Take the time to measure out correctly how much you will need so you don't come up too short or have a bunch extra just sitting around wasting your money.

I second John on AES Las Vegas. The regular priced shipping usually gets to me overnight.

My sister recently sold her house that was 1 mile from Anaheim's HRO has to run over there today to pick up some stuff that was delivered there by mistake instead of here said she'd stop by HRO for me.. If she isn't able to then I'll go through the AES route.
As for having a little extra coax laying around, I don't mind. I can make little patch cables to go between my turner and other radios.

I'm pretty sure all of HRO's stores are closed on Sundays. :( Sorry for the bad news. I drove all the way down to the San Diego location once and learned that the hard way.

My sister sent me a picture of the store being closed. Guess it's AES for me. =) I need my hardbody to sell so I can buy some other stuff I want for the Xterra. =)

Let me know if you need any last minute supplies (I think I saw in the other thread that you already placed your order through AES). I'm going to hit up the San Diego (Clairemont) HRO location on my lunch break today to pick up a new FT-60R handheld. I dropped my old one and toasted the audio output circuit. I'd be happy to pick something up for you if you need. I live in Murrieta, so the drive from Hemet is not bad and I'm usually in Hemet once or twice a week anyway because my parents live there.

I know I'll need some pl-259 connectors. I think 4. That and I'll need someone with an swr meeter to help me tune it. I couldn't find one on aes. Though I didn't look super hard. The order was expensive enough. :( I still need to buy a fire stick antenna as well

Looks like my lunch-time trip is actually going to have to wait until another day. Just had some urgent mid-day meetings pop up. >:(
I'll hit you up again if I'm planning to make the trip sometime this week. Sorry about that.

Don't be sorry. I know how work can ruin fun time. Lol. I'm in no super rush. The weather is getting better so I'll be commuting on thr bike mainly. The Xterra can sit and collect dust. :)

I think i made a mistake. I should of got RG-8 cable not RG-58. 58 seems way to small.
*edit*
I'm trying to do some research.. It seems a few people run RG-58 and say the power loss is negligible on the 10 - 15 foot runs. that I'll need. Damnit I wish I would of remembered all the stuff I studied to get my license.
*edit* again
disregard. I'll keep the 58 and just need to get the connectors now. I got all worried for no reason.. lame.
heh

Heck I have 6 ft of rg-316 and have never had a problem, with how short the run is, difference in loss is negligible
