Title: Looking for a trail in Santa Cruz

My niece is graduating from UC Santa Cruz in June,
I am looking for a nice scenic trail I could drive through (easy-moderate trail) .
Would like a trail not too far from the university or on the way there from Los Angeles (small detour)
I would preferable one that goes there the forest.

I would like to make the most of this mini-vacation.
If you have any suggestions please post.

I've done a lot of researching up there because I have family in the area.  I haven't had much luck other than Hollister Hills which is a well known area.  Still haven't been there though.
