We had some relatives from Seattle in town this weekend, and they wanted to see the desert, so I took them out to Anza Borrego for the day. Since we were just in the one truck we decided to keep it easy and scenic, and went to Fish Creek and Sandstone Canyon. It was sunny and 70F out there on Monday, but the wind did pick up some in the late afternoon. Here are a few pictures.
There is a second rockfall that completely blocks the canyon about 1/3 mile past the big rockfall that we saw back in November (the one that it looks like a few people might have gotten over). Judging by tire tracks, I would say that only a motorcycle has gotten past this second block.
I think we may have found the next rockfall as well. Check out the big spire on the right, it looks like it won't take much to make it slide right off the lower portion.
I did notice that the sign noting the more recent end of the driveable part of the canyon is now gone, I guess the Park figures it's no longer necessary with those 2 rockfalls blocking the way. We did walk all the way back to what used to be the end of the route. It's really quiet back there on weekdays, we hardly saw anyone else the whole day, and other than one Jeep we passed on our way in to Sandstone Canyon (he was leaving), we were the only ones there.
