SWITCH-BLADE Key Fob Mod
« on: September 27, 2012, 06:04:57 PM »
I was over at one of the "other" forums and saw that someone had done a Key Fob Mod

I ordered the remote from Amazon.com for $10 bucks

Took apart one of my two OEM remotes for the guts and did some minor trimming of the rubber buttons so it fit inside the new remote.

Then I took my spare Valet Key apart using a hot razor knife to get the security chip inside.

Put it all together and used silicon to hold the Chip inside the new unit.

Drove to Lowe's and had the key cut for free. (I was there to get a new Shop-Vac, so they didn't charge me)

Works like a charm and it really does remove some of the bulk from the key-chain...And it looks cool.

I "HEART" CHEAP MODS  ;D

Well done!
If I still was using my OEM Key fob, I would definitely do it.  If there was a way to get the Viper remotes into that, it would awesome!

That's pretty slick, I may have to do that.

Stupid question though, what is a valet key? I only have 2 and they both look the same.  ???

New vehicles receive 3 keys and 2 fobs, 2 normal keys and one valet key. The valet key had a black instead of chrome Nissan logo but the important feature is the little door where you can remove the chip that allows your keys to start your vehicle.  Having this key makes it easier to do this switchblade or the rogue key/fob mods because you don't have to destroy one of your keys.
