I just wanted to thank GhostX for everything he's done for us on SCCX. I'm huge into volunteer opportunities, and getting the AAT set up, is a huge plus! Now that my schedule has cleared up for the summer I'll definitely being contributing to the AAT program. It is definitely a great opportunity for everyone old and young. Being able to give back to the Forestry is an extremely important thing we can do as a group of off-road enthusiasts.
Also, I recently got my HAM radio license, and let me tell you, it was invaluable while at goneMOAB. Originally my Mom and Brother had been pushing me to get it while I was a teenage, but I never saw the benefit until I started wheeling back in NC. There were literally only about 2-3 with HAM radios there, but they were always in contact with each other even while we were on different trails in the forest of NC. Especially here in CA, with the mountains and distance between some trails, and no cell phone service for most, it's a great help.
Now at goneMAOB... where people were wheeling within a 30 to 50 mile radius of the town of MOAB, it was great. We did have some breaks on the trail, but were able to communicate to others that where in town if things were needed. Monday of the event there was a huge break on the trail, and the recovery didn't end until 2 am Tuesday morning, it would'ave been much later into the early morning of Tuesday if we weren't able to contact that crew via HAM, and find out what they needed.
