HAM phone app
« on: March 09, 2014, 04:40:56 PM »
I just stumbled on a neat little app and thought I'd pass it along. Repeater Book, works on iphone and Droid systems. It shows everyone who is near you and their frequencies/Call signs etc. You can decide to enter your info or not. If you are travelling away from home and allow the phone GPS to operate, it will constantly update so you can program your radio if you have cell service or not. Kinda handy tool I suppose.

Yes, (Repeater Book) you will be able to pull it up right away. Downloads fast and it doesn't seem to be an invasive app telling everyone and their 52 closest friends everything about you. I've been messing with it today and it seems to be a really nice app, especially if you are on the move and don't have cell service.

I like that it is gps based. Makes me glad I dumped the iphone. When  your out of service areas, it will still work.

Yes, that's exactly why I thought it was worth posting here for you guys. My phone will still mark a GPS location even with no cell service, I think that's pretty important if you find yourself in a bad sitauation or even if you find a really cool location you want to share with others. Add in this app and you can communicate.

That sounds awesome, especially since the best places to take your rig are the places with no cell service.

Sorry for any confusion, it shows the repeater's in your area and the owners callsign.

No worries, I thought I was missing some vital feature.  There is an aprs android app, it will show weather stations, repeaters and users running aprs overlayed on Google maps.  it does use your internet connection to populate the map, my gf uses it to keep track of me and off my back when I'm out in the desert alone. :-) www.aprs.fi is also a good website that does the same for browsers.
