Topic: Fridge/freezers

Was just wondering how many of you guys are running fridge/freezers in your rigs, if so what size? And what's your experience so far? I am looking at getting a norcold pretty cheap but not much information on them out there, or maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Any input is appreciated guys!

I use an Edgestar 43qt.  It's installed on top of the 40% split seat in the rear passenger area.

You should definitely go with the Norcold!  Those are basically Engles, which are nicer than my Edgestar.  More on par with the ARB style fridges, all though they may not look as snazzy. 

I think a 60qt Norcold will fit in the same location I have my Edgestar in. 

Anyways, buy a fridge.  They're fantastic.

I just picked up an ARB 50 quart model and I love it so far. Like Steve's, mine is installed on the smaller rear-seat when folded down, and it fits there perfectly. My only complaint about the ARB models (other than the insanely high prices) is that the lid opens the longer direction and will not open all the way without hitting the roof (you can get it about 2/3 of the way open, but it makes it much harder to restock it with drinks or something like that). On Steve's and some of the other brands, they open the shorter direction which should allow them to flip all the way up without hitting the roof.

No matter what brand/model you go with, you'll love having one on the trail, especially for long camping trips. I'm so glad I never have to mess around with ice again or deal with a leaking cooler inside my rig anymore!

I have an Engel 43qt that I have had for about 12 years and it works great.  I put it facing the rear on the passenger side and access it from the back hatch.  Just did the Bradshaw trail for four days and always had cold beverages available.  It is just a matter of being sure to replace a cold one with a warm one when you get a drink.  The hardest part was keeping it from freezing the water bottles!

You do know the lid can be pulled off quickly and that the hinge points are spring loaded pinns

FYI, a 60qt Norcold fits on the 40% split.
That's with the passengers seat in a position that comfortably seats my 6'3" self.

Is there any way a 60qt would fit in the back of a first gen X in the trunk space?

So this is the ARB 50 in the back of my first gen, it is sitting a little low as it is not on the slide in this picture.

And here it is with the lid popped off, as Chris mentioned it has spring loaded hinge pins and this makes for easy access.
