« on: May 12, 2016, 09:18:39 PM »
Just wanted to share my new invention. Yes a truck awning made w 1" pvc pipe, 4 pvc fittings, 2 base legs for weighting down on cement or to nail down on dirt/grass, an 8x8 tarp special ordered and a bunch of ball bungees! The picture shows a 10x10, but I cut it down 2 feet to make it 8x8. Let me know wut u peeps think! Altogether parts were $85

That looks pretty dang good. Now, you have to get out and test it in some desert winds.;)

Looks good. I second the concern about winds, but only time will tell. Just tie it down really good when you're out there. My ARB awning flipped backward over the truck when we were all eating lunch at Fort Piute on this last Mojave Road trip. I thought we'd be ok because the breeze was light and we were sitting right next to the upright poles to hold it if the wind picked up. But as we were sitting there eating, a very rapid gust snuck up and before we could even react, the whole thing was flipped back over the roof and the poles got bent pretty bad. We managed to straighten it out enough to get it closed up, but I think I need to take it apart and straighten it a little better and maybe re-rivet the poles to the frame.
