Ran Rouse Hill Rd/Thomas Mtn. today. Starting at the Cranston Rgr Stat. on HWy 74 just N. of Hemet and coming out on 6s13 in Garner Valley, the road is a 32 mi easy to moderate stock friendly fire road, although I did manage to track down a few difficult level short side roads that circle back to the main road. This is a good run if you want to get to the pines without much company/others on the trail. Its only 30 min from the 215 fwy to the ranger stn. and 50 min back from where I came out in Garner Vly. The toal run with 2-3 short breaks was ~4 hrs.
Some really great views of San Jacinto Mtn, Lake Hemet, & Riverside. Really peaceful and quiet when I was there midday on Sunday. Bunch of nice places to pull off especially up higher in the pines, a number of spots would handle
up to 6-8 rigs. 10 improved campsites on Thomas Mtn, and 1 toilet sh#@ house bldg. thing.
Would recommend for an easy to moderate quick 1 day getaway. A winter run after a rain would make this somewhat more challenging and you'd have the mtn. to yourself. Great overnighter with the right co. i.e. stars, city lights, bottle of wine - you get the idea!
