basic xterra
« on: March 31, 2017, 10:40:50 PM »
hello all;  pass few weeks been doing some work on the xterra.  3 days ago i got around to installing prg front 1/2 spacer lift. i had ordered 5100 but changed my mind and returned it for the 4600. figured its an easy install so ill do the shocks in a week or 2.

here is a pic 180k miles original suspension. with 1/2 prg front lift spacer.

next day i got an ebay shackle for 1.5 lift. DO NOT GET THEM!!  the sleeve is to big to fit the bushing. after hammering it in as much as possible, there was still about an inch and a half left. also the bushing on the other side isnt even installed. luck, i also had prg shackles coming in 2 days later. that install went really easy. you can hear some clunk since the prg sleeves are loose in the bushings. also installed 4600 rear shocks at the same time. prg shackles set to the lowest setting.

this pic shows that so much hammering deformed the sleeve and it could not slide into the bolt to assemble it.

i also got an ebay fog light kit. install was really easy. there is a small gap around the lense but for $50 im ok with it. it is a manual switch though.

Your truck should be wired for fog lights, all you need is a new turn signal stalk that has the fog switch.  You can find them pretty easy at the junk yards as the same stalk was also used in sentras and altimas of similar years to your xterra.

Damn, i thought it was only from xterras that fit. But then again, i dont have time to go searching. It was just easier for me to get the ebay kit. But lets see how long they last.

Last week i did some more cleaning and had some brown dark water coming from the roof. Took the basket out and found the entire front part was packed with leaves.

So i removed everything and started to clean it out. Stupid me i hosed down the roof and didnt think water would get inside.  Big mistake!

I had taken out atleast 5 hand fulls of leaves before i took this picture.

I had gotten offroad light switch last month and decided to use it as a remote for my garage. I use to have a few motorcycles a few years back and hated having to use a big old school genie remote. I got a new version that was a bit more slim and solder 2 leads to it with long wires to a momentary switch at the handle bars. So i can open the garage right before i get to the drive way.

So on the offraod switch, i used the top 2 pins to activate the remote fom the 2 wires i soldered; black & red.  The 2 center pin i hooked up to my radio illumination wire. In the pic it is white & yellow.

Lots of projects on this build...ayup, the Nissan "wet boxes" are great leaf keepers, mine had the same collection when I installed my aftermarket roof rack.

So....your fog light switch activates the garage door opener??

The Oem offroad light switch is used for the garage opener. The other switch to the left is for the ebay fog light kit

The garage opener has 2 spots on the circuit board. I just solder two wires to itright where the button would be and put a small switch. You could kind of see it pic above in the back ground. You can see a bundle of wires zip tied and a small switch hanging.

Still looking for an oem switch stock to use the factory fog light harness to control the ebay fog light kit.

This weekend i should have the hellwig kit installed. As it stands now i like the look. Has prg 1/2 lift spacer in the front and rea prg shackles at the lowest setting.

best bet for the factory fog stalk is junkyards or rock auto, pretty much any model nissan of the same or similar year that has fog lights and not auto headlights will work. Sentra, maxima, frontier, titan, xterra all share the same stalk.

Saw one on ebay for $40 but had the auto headlight.  Had the white connector but wasnt sure if that would have worked.
