My solo trip to Cleghorn, Sunday January 8, 2016.
« on: January 09, 2017, 09:22:00 AM »
3 out of the 4 people that were suppose to go with me flaked yesterday morning, i was 4 of 4, no flaking on my end. Temps were great, the dirt was tacky and the trail traffic was almost nil. Since I was solo I took it very easy and stuck to the main firewood, only doing a couple of the very easy off chutes. All the snow was gone, there were a few puddles here and there along with some sticky and gooey sections sprawled throughout the trail.

On to the pix:

Looks like a gorgeous day! Sometimes, it's great to have a day alone out on the trails to collect your thoughts.  8)

Thanks guys. Joe you are right, I enjoyed just cruising solo and doing whatever I wanted, stopping to enjoy the views, etc.

Fantastic pics! I thought Cleghorn was closed, fire or some reason. Obviously not (or at least not anymore).

I've had my weekend getaway schedule cramped now that my wife is working, and we are a one car (and one motorcycle) family. Maybe when my son gets his Cherokee rebuild finished that'll provide some relief and I can more actively join these outings again.

The main trail is basically a fire road that you could complete in anything with halfway decent ground clearance (even a car). There are many off-shoots along the way that are varying degrees of difficulty and length, all of which meet back up with the main trail. I would suggest that you run the whole fire road first to see what it's like, then go back and try a couple of the off-shoots that looked within your comfort level. It's also not a bad idea to run the road with someone else who has done it before (it's always a good idea to wheel with a second vehicle anyway, for obvious reasons). It's a popular trail with this group, and I could virtually guarantee that you'd get at least a couple people who want to tag along if you post up a date/time that you plan to run it. :)

Edit: here's a cool video on YouTube that tells you pretty much everything you'd want to know about the road. They cover the whole trail, including every off-shoot.

That is a great video Joe!  And its only 2 weeks old.

Beedee:  I'm glad that you made the most of your trip without the Flakes.

I hate Flakes, I'm more of a Cheerios guy.  I say Cheerio to those flakes >:(

Love that trail.

I have to agree, nothing makes a bad breakfast like some stale flakes. Granola with some blueberries is what I prefer!

Always wanted to go here, but never tried.  I'll just stick to the fire roads though. Thanks for the video
