Looks like you are looking for a 1/2 ton gas engine, so I won't talk about my cummins.

If it was 2002 I would get a Chevy.  The newer fords looks alittle better now, but in early 2000, they make me puke.

Here is a clean one with low miles and 33 ish tires  http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/1754353842.html

Didnt' sound like you want a dodge, but they are actually really really nice truck.  http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/ctd/1728511057.html

My suggestion is go drive all of them at carmax.  Find out what options you need.  Then start hunting on craigslist or autotraders.  I am guessing you don't need the truck right the way, so take your time and walk away if the price is not right.  It took me a year to find the cummins I was looking for.  I got the exact color, bedsize, and the stick 4x4 shifter (the cherry on top is I also got a locker up front and camper shell to sleep in).

Oh for Chevy.. stay away from the 4.x

that first one is 2WD. i gotta have a 4x4 for when i move back to the midwest. i'm going to look at an 03 silverado 1500 tomorrow. leather seats, ext. cab, power everything, dark grey, and 4x4. 55k miles and he's asking $14k. should i start by offering $12? I don't want to pay more than $13k.

I talked to my friend about you towing your X.  He recommend getting a 3/4 ton.  He said you will be much happier when you decide to trail queen your X.

Sorry about the chevy I did a 4x4 search and that one looked the cleanest.

If you are serious about towing, I would just do it right the first time and get a 4x4 diesel.  A 2002+ Ford PS 4x4 are a everywhere.

In regards to mid west. Have you look at prices there?  It might be cheaper to buy it there.  I am moving to CT next month, and let me tell you it's not cheap to ship 2 cars across country.

i sold my xterra. or else i would be getting a 3/4 ton. but since it will be my DD, i can't be getting 10 mpg just to tow a rig that i don't have yet.

it's cool on the chevy.

I will probably end up trailer queening a sami, so i think a 1500 can handle the weight of that. If not, that will be a few years down the road and I can always buy a diesel later.

Ya shipping is expensive, my mom did it when she moved out here from IN. I drove the X out here and if I get a silverado before I move I'll just drive it back. I'll need to to take my stuff anyway.

Thanks for all the input, btw.

Have you driven the Dodge with a Hemi?

Other than the touchy steerig, it's a great little truck

were you in san diego? cause that's where my X is now. did it have a snorkel?

I think I'm purchasing the dark grey 2003 1500 Silverado Z71 4x4 ext cab. It has 55k miles, leather seats, BOSE sound system, rhino liner, towing package, goodyear AT's and a few other things...basically fully loaded. I made a deal with the guy for $13,250. What do you guys think? I haven't written the check yet so chime in before I do!

oh, and it's got a locker!

No she was driving in on the 405 S in irvine.  I tried to catch  up to "you" then realize "you" were a she.

Congrats on the new truck.  That's low miles for a 2003.
