New 2010 SE 4X4 Owner from San Diego
« on: November 23, 2010, 07:34:00 AM »
Hey everyone!
Just wanted to introduce myself over here and hopefully get to know some of you as I found great friends on the Subaru forums before I got rid of the 2010 WRX.

My name is Chad. My most recent car was a 2010 Subaru WRX hatchback that I bought brand new off the lot in September 2009. I loved the car to death and had a ton of fun with it, but it was a car (I've mostly had SUV's) that I have owned since my first car as a 16 year old.

The Subaru was sold on 11/10/10 and I picked up the Xterra from the dealer the same day!! Woo!! Funny thing about this though is that Nissan was not even on my radar. I was looking at Toyota Tacomas and 4Runners and just happened to be playing a softball game next to the Nissan dealer and saw a white 4X4. I stopped to look at it for a few minutes and next thing I knew I was tearing the thing apart by opening the doors, glove box, playing with every little gadget, and then test drove it. I loved it and I loved the price for the amenities and just the fact this X is much more rugged and could handle a lot more than a 4Runner most likely...

I live in San Diego. Santee to be more specific. I like mountain biking (I have a 2009 Specialized FSR XC Pro), snowboarding, wakeboarding (have a house out at the Colorado River), quadding, baseball, working out, everything having to do with being active. I work in construction as a Project Engineer at a big construction company in San Diego. Originally from Northern Cali and moved to SD for school at SDSU.

A little history on my cars...
1. 1984 Toyota Corolla SR5 5 speed manual (yellow)... sold because I found a Jeep that I wanted.
2. 1997 Jeep Cherokee 4X4 5 speed manual... totalled in an accident on the freeway by some jackass undocumented worker
3. 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 250... temporary while I was between cars after the Jeep got totalled
4. 1993 Ford Explorer Sport 4X4 5 speed manual.... given to me by my uncle because I did not have transportation and he was FINALLY getting a new car for himself
5. 2010 Subaru WRX hatchback 5 speed manual of course!... I love this car, but need to be back into an SUV or Truck again!

I joined here to learn a little more about the X. I am active on the Subaru forums and have found loads of information to help me on my DIY projects and stuff like that.

I hope to find that the X will actually meet my needs and I will from time to time ask questions.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome aboard.  I'm sure some of the second gen folk will chime in with mods, resources, etc.
I like sammiches.  And bacon.  Sammiches with bacon.  And chips.  Lots of chips.

Welcome.  Mods are really an endless topic so if you have any specific questions just post up.  Depending on how into the offroad stuff you get most people will tell you the first thing to do is the free mods including removal of the step rails, mud flaps, and rear sway bar.

Welcome! I'm a fairly active mountain biker myself, usually in Riverside's Sycamore Canyon and Box Springs.
Enjoy your X! Also, www.thenewx.org is a popular resource for the 2nd gens.

welcome to the club. Look around in the forums check out old posts see how the club is, you will love it here. Every one helps one another, we try to look out for deals mods and tech support. Got a question on your X did it come with white sideview mirrors or did you paint them? I like the way it looks. I got a white 2010 OR edition.
If you dont have mud you have nothing.

Howdy!

The best way to learn is by taking that thing off road and seeing what she'll do! With the club you have the advantage of following the guy in front of you (unless you're the sucker in front!) and having other trucks and strong backs to help out when needed. We're a really loose knit group and very family friendly. Bring the wife, girlfriend, dog - or all three. Other than shaking hands at a meet you get to crawl under trucks and see what works and what doesn't for the other folks.

Welcome!  I'm in San Diego as well...

It's funny... the WRX was one of the cars I was considering getting when it came time for me to get a new car this time around... one big reason I looked at cars vs. SUVs was the gas mileage.

But, like you, I really like the space and utility of a truck, plus I was afraid I wouldn't be able to afford the tickets and insurance rates I knew would come quickly after getting a WRX!  ; D  Heck, I drove a friend's old VW Passat Turbo for a few months and got a ticket in that thing in November!  LOL!

So, I went back to what works for me, and picked up a new Pro-4X on Monday... couldn't be happier, at least until the payments start in March!  : D

Best of luck with yours... maybe we'll see you out there!
