New to site - saying hi
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:17:00 PM »
Hi, all. Ok, ok...I will admit I've periodically looked around this site off and on as a guest. I finally signed on. I have a 2012 Pro4X (NA) purchased at the end of June  I'm in Riverside. She's my baby. Love her to death already. Looking to meet up with others, light trailing to start. Breaking her in. She is my daily commuter as well. I am looking to add rock sliders, grill guard, rear tail light guards. The sooner the better :)  From what I have observed you all seem like a pretty good group.  Wouldn't mind showing for a meet and greet sometime. Also have Land Rover Disco. One that is actually used and looks it. Been around to Big Bear, Holcomb Valley, Idyllwild, Cooks Corner areas so I am somewhat familiar with local areas.

Welcome to the site!

Post up some pics of your rig when you have time and create a build thread over in Display Case so we can get a peek.

What color Pro4-X did you snag?  The desert season is just around the corner so you should definitely check out one of the planned Anza Borrego run.

Hope to see you soon on the trails!

Welcome to the club Gremlin. What does (NA) stand for? Only thing I can think of is (Non Alcoholic) and I don't mess with that.

Thanks, all :)

I shouldn't have been so lazy. NA = was my abbrev for Night Armor   I would like to get some pics going when I have time. Long hours at work lately. And every time I get her cleaned up. The weather gets weirded out and changes my plans.

She's fully loaded with all pkgs from Nissan. I didn't plan that. She arrived that way through a dealer trade. They even included a fancy dancy first aid kit. I haven't looked in it, but it's probably a band aid that retails at $125.........lol  Any recommendations on good shops that can do the rock sliders? or should I go to the other threads for those ?s  Also, any difference in stock skid plates vs. aftermarket. Mine came w/vehicle. What I really would like to do is get the stock running boards off and get sliders on.

Ha ha, welcome.  I thought NA stood for naturally aspirated motor, as in non-turbo/supercharged.  Sorry, some of us here are die-hard motorheads.  Forget about the grill guard.  Its for looks only and does more damage than good in a collision.  No good on trail either.  Look into Calmini, Shrockworks, ARB, 4X4PARTS.com.

Gremlin-

There are a few local fab shops making pretty decent sliders.  White Knuckle and AOE4x4.  From what I understand, AOE is in the process of producing skid plates.  I've heard the wait times from both are 10 times faster than Hefty and Shrock.

To answer the question about factory skid plates...  They do offer some protection and are better than nothing, but they are very thin.  Sounds like your Disco may see more trail use than the X, so not sure what you want to do with the X.  The X is fairly capabile stock, and I would recommend hitting some of the eaiser trails with SCCX.  This would give you an opurtunity to see what most of run and why.

Good luck and hope to see ya on the trails.

Welcome to the club Gremlin!!

I would suggest that you shop around for sliders and skids. You'll quickly realize that most of them are around the same price ($450-$650 powdercoated and shipped), and around the same wait time (3 weeks to 3 months) for you to get em. Then call Alex at AOE4x4.com, local shop in Laguna Hills. You can get sliders powdercoated and installed in about 3 days for $550. No tax if you pay cash. They're killer and few of us already have them on our rigs.

Looking forward to meeting ya!!
I love it when a plan comes together

Thanks, all. You've been a wealth of knowledge. Superslide, thanks...I didn't even think about collision factor. and, Hevak...I go to Laguna often. I will keep AOE4x4 in mind.  I've been to 4X4Parts in RVSD. Only one guy I'll deal with there. Honestly, I prefer to support local/small business vs. corporations. If I find the right person(s) who does a good job, I tend to be a repeat customer. So, thus far my list is sliders, skids and no grill guard.  I was told by someone the other day if I went aftermarket bumper...it would void out my warranty. I'll have to look into that. If the bumper has an airbag compatible mounting system...I don't see why it would. Anyhow, thanks again. All my former vehicles (cars) were Nissan. My 1st truck. Sorry for so many questions The Disco I is a '95.  Getting ready to have suspension done. And finally just recently got rid of my '89 Suburban.

Personally, I've always felt that its difficult to take on more than one project vehicle at a time because otherwise, you never finish any of them.  I think more than two (2) vehicles for one person is too much.  One daily driver and one project vehicle.  I know some people here will strongly disagree with me which is why I stated that this is MY opinion.
