Topic: Big Bear Yellow Post Camp Sites

Hi guys,
Looking to bring the family camping this weekend and had a question about the Yellow Post sites. When they're described as "not RV friendly", what does that mean exactly? Which YP sites would it be possible for us to visit? We have a Ford Transit wagon pulling a small 19' travel trailer. So, it's not a Jeep pulling a popup but it's also not 30' motor home.  The Transit isn't a 4x4 but it does have decent clearance and plenty of power.

Non Nissan yellow post questions have a $5 fee.

Seriously...good luck up there. 

Be careful if you're towing the RV up 3N16...some sections are fire road-ish, while others can bury an axle or tongue jack pretty quick.

Thanks Ghost. Isn't YP31 off of 2N09 and 2N09A? They're supposed to be pretty tame, or have I misread the trail info?

Made it up to YP31. The spur was a little hairy with the trailer. The van did fine. There were some deep ruts and a few basketball sized rocks to avoid.

Just an FYI, the forest service just put out a memo that fire restrictions have been implemented and no fires are allowed at the yellow post sites.  propane only.

The fire restrictions were a bit of a bummer. We also moved from YP31 to YP2 to give a group of college kids some more room. YP2 ended up being a nicer spot with more shade, better views and an easier road to pull the trailer up. Ended up having a nice neighbor to shoot the breeze with too--a veteran in a VW bus with his two dogs on an extended road trip. 👍😀

I only have a humble car. Front wheel drive. I've taken it on some pretty dubious dirt roads, and getting it muddy/scratched is not a problem.

QUESTION: since "not RV friendly" means the access is rough, does that mean that the ones that ARE RV-friendly would be okay to access by car?

Just how bad are the NotRVFriendly dirt roads?

If it's listed as RV accessible, barring unusual conditions such as heavy rain etc, you wouldn't have an issue with a passenger vehicle and a little common sense.
