We are still looking forward to meeting you all in Big Bear. The running boards & mudflaps are now off. Sliders are on. Many thanks to all of you for the advice & pointers. Skids will be ordered next, but they wont be here by the Big Bear trip. That's okay. More presents to look forward to.

I think you should be fine as long as you don't give into peer pressure like you did yesterday lol

I just want to start off by saying I had a great time with everybody and want to give special thanks to Angel, Terry and everyone else who have a hand when I broke.

I'll finish this post by saying I don't give in to peer pressure.  I have nothing to prove to anybody but myself, my rig and the work I put into it and the trail.  I did what I did cause I know I can.  From racing 750's as a teenager, a self taught mechanic with just as much skill and knowledge as anybody in this group, to drifting with some of the best Japan has to offer.  Not trying to bag on you, but I broke 180 mph on a motorcycle before you were looking at girls "differently".  I've done this trail a month ago, and did 90% of what we did yesterday minus the last hairball section.  I turned around that day because I saw it was too hairy to go at it without an experienced spotter.  I know my limitations, and I'm exploring my rigs limitations with the help of the fine members of this club.  Simply put, I'm just trying to say I'm not some weak minded idiot who does things to be cool to people I don't even know.  I do have "hold my beer, watch this moments", but that's usually when I have a beer in my hand.  You'd be hard pressed to put me in a situation that will make me crack under pressure.  I've seen combat multiple times, and I was doing aircraft crash recovery when you were ten.  I can't read tone online, so I'm saying what I am saying as nicely as I can, but telling me I "give into peer pressure" is just a bit offensive to me.

I didn't mean it in an offensive way.  ??? Your rig did a phenomenal job yesterday. I was just poking fun at reiterating the phrase "You can do it" which we were saying all day. You do have more experience than me and I respect that. Again... I didn't mean to offend anyone.

I think Justin was just making a general comment that we should all keep in mind. That holds true not only to peer pressure, but to the pressure we put on ourselves.  I don't think he knows any of us well enough for it to be a personal affront.  Here's Paul's Gold Mountain video that gives an idea of the trail.  I have a 1st Gen without a locker and am not sure I would be able to get up the second(?) obstacle without a tug.  Plus, I believe 33s were required on the last Gold Mountain run whereas I have 32s.  So I chose the other trail even though I am so tempted to do Gold Mountain.  I just don't want to get over my head or hold people up.  It seems to me the 2nd Gens are cheating with their OEM lockers, heated seats, and hill descent control that allows for better crawling (not like the 1st Gens with their poor gear ratio).  Kind of like camping at a luxury hotel.  :P  Gold Mountain Video

ETA.  I have a manual transmission so the gear ratio comment probably doesn't apply to automatics.

I plan on camping.  Was actually thinking of starting a thread just for the people camping so we could coordinate logistics.  I'll be bringing the house commander, myself and three boys, 10, 7, & 3.  They all love smores.  pm me, or if we got anybody else jumping on we can get another thread started.

My son is 12 and will be attending...and you're never too old for s'mores!  ;D  We may have to roll by your campground with a cold glass of milk and toast some s'mores at the fire.

We will be camping in the "lap of luxury"  ;) at the Big Bear Frontier Hotel, as I didn't want to sleep on the ground if it was cold...but I am sure we will hang out at some point.

Yes, feel free to post all your "fair weather" comments after this post...I can take it.  :D

Like John said, very different terrain. Cleghorn has rocks but it's mostly tricky, loose, rutted mogul type terrain. Big Bear has rocks, big ones. You deffenatly want to remove the steps and flaps. They will get ripped off. Swing by Harbor Freight and pick up a hitch hook and a tow strap if you dont already have one. You'll be wheeling with some experienced guys but a relaxed attitude and a good sense of humor will make the day alot enjoyable.

I had my step rails off for cleghorn, and will hopefully have my sliders put together by the end of the month.  I should also have my 2" BL on by then also, which the sliders and rear bumper are waiting for.  Won't have the dough for the steel for the rear bumper before the Big Bear run, but will definately have a tampon back there.  Tires are Falken Rocky Mtn A/t's, 31.5"'s.  These tires have been really good to me from Cleghorn to crazy muddin after the monsoons that hit Moval a while back.  If you think I should stay out of Gold Mountain with those, let me know and I'll listen.  It's just that the green trails are like putting me on kiddy rides.  I'll be bored for the most part.  I want to challenge myself, but at the same time don't want to obliterate my DD.

Hi All,

I'm a frequent flyer up to Big Bear, when there's snow on the ground. I stay at the Robinhood Resort when the snow is good and I didn't have a baby  ;) It's in a great spot, right in the middle of town, walking distance from the bars and restaurants.

Anyways, Pete is the guy that runs the joint and he gave us a great rate.

$69 per night for a standard room. Just mention the CANVAZ group rate.

Robinhood Resort
40797 Big Bear Blvd.
Big Bear, Ca 92315

Ask for the CANVAZ Group Rate: 909-866-4643

i know im a bit late on booking my room, but apparently this rate is only good for a 2-night stay...looking for places near Robinhood, any suggestions as a 1 night stay there will run me ~$150?
thank you!
