Is that 100% necessary? I was thinking about doing that since it seems to be the general concencus, but I actually use my step rails for work on a regular basis (I'm a sound technician and I regularly haul speakers and amplifiers to parties and weddings and the rails actually help make life easy).

Check out the canvaz thread i posted 3 videos. On jacoby canyon my mudflaps were making rock contact

You are probably fine leaving them installed if you stick with the green trails.  You might wind up removing or damaging the mud flaps on the trail if you are more aggressive.  During the last Rattlesnake Canyon run I know mud flaps and step rails came off but that's not a green trail.

I thought rattlesnake was a green trail?

The first time I went through there, I was bone stock with the factory side steps.  And I got by just fine.  I did need tires that time cause I spun out on the icy sand.

Como estas compadre....joo like Tequila?

Ditch the flaps and rails fornthe runs.....you can put them back on afterwards in 20 min.
RattleSnake canyon is a green run mixed into the tricky sections.

I recommend white knuckle sliders, they work great as rock sliders and side steps.
