Hey all!

My name is Erik and I just wanted to say hello! I am a college student in Orange, originally from San Francisco and (to be honest) my 2008 Xterra is my first car. I know a good amount about off piste driving conditions thanks to my skiing habit and a father who's '92 Jeep Wrangler is his second son. The only reason I heard about this website is because when I was moving into my apartment, I saw another Xterra with a bumper sticker that said "So Cal Club Xterra" and after a Google search, I found myself here! I have been reading around and you guys look like a fun bunch of people and I would love to go out on a trail one of these days. I have been off roading, but nothing too intense so I would love to learn what my X can do and see some of the great things So Cal has to offer (other than traffic).

I would post a picture of my X but it's a standard 2008 White 4WD so nothing fancy.

I've had it for 3 months now and, like I said, I am super excited to have found this site and I look forward to coming out to an event!

Erik...

Stormtrooper Editions (Avalanche/White) are cool.  ;)

Welcome to SCCX...I see you have met Christiaan (xxSVxx) and Ray (HEVAK) two very active and positive contributors over here.

Just curious...what did the Xterra that had the SCCX sticker on it look like?

Welcome Erik,
It may have been my Black X you saw.  I live in Orange and am constantly around the circle area.  If you are at Chapman, Go Panthers!  I am an Alumni.  :)

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

I had a picture of it on my not-so-smart phone but its quite blurry, but oddly enough when I was Google-ing rock sliders because I had NO idea, I actually found a picture of the bumper sticker, and when I saw it, it was on a white X.

Attached is the bumper sticker that I saw and it may not have been that exact X but you get the idea.

I realized that after I made my post I said that I am a college student in Orange and considering that there is only one college that I am aware of in Orange I could have just come out and said yes I am at Chapman and go Panthers indeed!

As far as my rig goes, I've been looking around and I saw the thread for requirements to go on these trips and I'm going to work on getting the basics like a CB or HAM, fire extinguiser tow cables etc before I get things like rock sliders. I have been looking at the xcursion board and I saw some coming up and I was looking at possibly joining you guys for at least one day of the Big Bear trip (if possible with a stock rig) or Cleghorn if I can muster one of my roommates to join me. I am for sure going to join you guys some time soon!

I'm also going to be making/replying to some posts trying to figure somethings out but you guys seem like all kinds of helpful and nice so I'm really glad to have seen that sticker!

Welcome to the club. The "Green Trails" on the big bear run are stock friendly just remove your mudflaps and step rails and you're good to go. You should go to cleghorn on saturday so you can meet some of the crazies.....i mean members of the club.

Is that 100% necessary? I was thinking about doing that since it seems to be the general concencus, but I actually use my step rails for work on a regular basis (I'm a sound technician and I regularly haul speakers and amplifiers to parties and weddings and the rails actually help make life easy).

You are probably fine leaving them installed if you stick with the green trails.  You might wind up removing or damaging the mud flaps on the trail if you are more aggressive.  During the last Rattlesnake Canyon run I know mud flaps and step rails came off but that's not a green trail.

Welcome.  Because the step rails are weak, they are prone to getting damaged easily.  You can always put them back on after a trail run.  They are light and simple to install with only 1 person.  At minimum, take a tow strap and basic emergency supplies and food.  We can help with everything else.  You can then see what else you need for the next run.
