CB install issues
« on: September 27, 2012, 01:39:51 PM »
Hey guys/gals

My new rig came with a CB installed with antennae and all, and it turns on, but ZERO reception.  Nothing.

I'm not very good w/ electronics and I want someone who does this for a living to help....

Therefore - Does anyone local (Southern Orange County/Northern San Diego County) have anyone they can recommend?

Christiaan...you might start by checking to make sure all the switches on the faceplate are in their right positions.  Sometimes they get moved to PA, or CH9 receive, etc.

If that all checks out, I would look at the coax connector for the antenna on both ends as well.  Common problems here are the ground wire off of the antenna.  Curious what your antenna mount looks like.  Kinda tough to diagnose through a website, but if you want to post up some pics of the antenna mount, we can try.

Also, do a search over on thenewx or here for "cb install" and "cb antenna" and that should give you a little background.

Worst case, maybe we can all take a look at it during the Big Bear run.

Good luck!

I second that notion.  Check the antenna coaxial cable.  Make sure it has a solid place to mount to.

Nope.  :(

Since it's installed and it has power/antennae plugged in, I might go to the local auto radio guy and see if he can hook it up...

Gotta get it done before Canvaz II....

It might be faulty equipment. I bought a COAX FireStik cable from Amazon and turned out to be dead. FireStik sent me a new one free of charge.

do you own a multimeter?  check to make sure the cable is not shorted.  hows the antenna mounted? looks like you got a k400 mount in your build thread, never used one but does the mount touch bare metal?  try pulling the connector off the mount and taking some sandpaper to the metal to make sure you have a good clean connection.

I have a friend who owns a multimeter and checked everything; there's power throughout the set-up, but for whatever reason I don't have a connection.

I'm going to try to post up pix of the antennae and such this evening...

If you've got some time this weekend and want to come down to San Diego, I have a spare cb setup, we can swap parts to find your issue

Wow....I really appreciate that.

I am unsure of my plans as of right now; let me get a more concrete idea as to what my plans are and I'll reply again if I'm around this weekend...

Thanks!!
