Not sure yet. Haven't done the meal plan, but most likely the usual. Steak and lobster, umm I mean bratwurst and hamburgers and a bunch of freeze dried stuff that's easier to pack and doesn't require much to prep.

Going to try my hand at the dry ice route again. Last time I froze my stuff. This time I think ill add a barrier from it so it maintains a cold temp for the 2 days without the need to refill ice. Plus we can have cold drinks on the trail without the slosh factor. ;D

I take the block ice approach, freeze 1 gal jugs of crystal geyser ( they have the toughest bottles) with a 6 day cooler. Everything stays cold and when the ice melts, its drinking water :-)

Just don't forget, open the bottles before freezing and remove a little water or else they burst or bulge.

Good to know re: wood....although I'm guessing there will be plenty around us...

As far as food goes I am fuzzy on how much to bring....Fri night I'll get there around 7ish so I'm thinking I'll eat on the way up....

Sat I'm on one trail or another for 90% of the day so I'm thinking I'll bring some breakfast food but lunch and dinner will be stuff I can munch on while on the trail.

Then Sunday we're breaking down camp before we hit the trail....

That sound right?

Not sure if it's legal to burn tree fall in Big Bear.

It is allowed, but only in designated areas and you have get a permit, $25 per cord.

As far as food goes, I'll be packing light.  Cold cuts for lunch, maybe some brats for dinner, warm Julian apple pie for desert. :-)

When I was in Yosemite a ranger told me that it's bad for the trees if you burn wood that isn't from there....the ranger encouraged me to go scrounge for wood rather than burn the stuff I brought...

Of course, this was the night after I hiked Half Dome....at which point I looked at the guy like he had 3 eyes...

I have a bunch of wood I can bring too. It's been sitting out for over a year. I'll bring what I can fit after I load up all the gear.
