CANVAZ II Sat PM Clarks Summit
« on: October 11, 2012, 09:36:12 PM »
I wanted to get some feedback as to what time to start. Id like to roll out of the Vons by 5pm and be air'd down and rolling on the trail no latern than 6pm. Im not sure how the RattleSnake Canyon group is going to do on time. If this sounds reasonable to everyone please chime in here.
If there are any sugestions, your ideas will be mocked at and made fun of for the next few weeks. Just kidding..
Let me know what you think.

Timing-wise sounds good.   What kind of a drive is it to the trailhead from the Vons?  And what is your estimate for duration of the run in the dark?  Could we end up in Laughlin at the end? ;D

My plan with RC is to get everyone through the trail in good time, and be done around 4pm.  Keep in mind, we won't be rushing through like last time with the 36 trucks, the plan is to relax and explore more of the trail.

Following the end of RC, at the turn near Viscera Springs, there will be an optional gold mine exploration run set around the Tip Top Mine off a spur of trail 2N02.

Probably another 90 minutes for that, then head up the remainder of 2N02 and back into town.

Anyone looking to attend the night run could skip the second half or just split early and head back to the Vons to catch Danny's run.  You will have radios and cell phones, so maybe flex the start time for when everyone gets there?

To save time, guys can stay aired down for the trip through town to the meet spot for the night run.

I will peeling off the RC trail a little early so I can get downt he mountain to pick up my youngest.  I want to go on the night run so make sure the radios are on so I can find out where everybody is.
Be careful when you follow the masses..... sometimes the "M" is silent.

From the Vons to the trail head should be about 30min's. The actual trail is about 15 miles and should take about 2 hours.

And Terry, theres always a chance....if your following me.....that you'll end up in Laughlin.

Alright everyone....BB is a few days away. Some Updates on the saturday PM run.

We will meet at the Vons at 1730. We will then drive down the 38 to where it intersects with "Front Line Rd."
This is located at 34.170784, -116.826172. We can Air down here and take our traditional 3 shots of tequila. We will be on the trail at about 1830 and should take about 2hrs to get back up to Big Bear.
Big Bear is known for thick cloud cover at night. This is a shelf road and might be deemed unsafe to travel if the clouds roll in. Be prepared for that reality. Winers, complainers and DB's will be delt with with a swift and disapproving glance.
I know this might conflict with the RS canyon group. Please keep an eye on the time and plan accordingly. I don't want to start too late and risk an unlikely break down or other event that would keep us on the mountain too late.
Feel free to contact me at six2six-twenty7-forty2-2-fifty. I respond best to text messaging but know some of you oldtimers still have rotary cell phones.

Here's a google earth .KMZ file of the route we will be taking. Add this to your GPS's, Iphones or roll it up and smoke it.
