Okay folks, working on getting involved in the Adopt A Trail Program up in Big Bear, for the San Bernardino National Forest area.

They held a meeting on November 28th, 2012 that we couldn't rally at the last minute to attend, but the notes were forwarded to me for posting;

We are currently looking at adopting Trail 2N02/Burns Canyon, which would provide access for all of our members to conduct volunteer trail maintenance.  This trail was chosen as all of us (2WD and 4WD mild to wild) can access, and as volunteerism hinges on "the more the  merrier" concept this was a good choice.

Talking up to 2N02. I'm off that Friday (12/14) and wouldn't mind taking the fam up to BigBear. Might as well check out the trail.

Gotcha...I have to work but feel free Danny, it is the trail we used to get to Baldwin Lake/Big Bear after you exit the Rattlesnake Canyon Trail.  If you get a chance, go to the eastern end and check out Pioneer Town, a cool place for kids.

It was used in the 40's/50's/60's for the filming of western movies/television shows and is a great place for kids to check out.

Okay, I heard back from Ted Kalil, Adopt A Trail Program Coordinator this morning.

Here is the latest update:

Good morning, John

The meeting place is the Corona Sizzler; dinner at 6 pm; the meeting starts at 7 pm and lasts two hours.

Next: Now knowing what you're looking for, Greg will have to confirm what trail you'll adopt. Have you signed the Volunteer Agreement? That's the next step. If you haven't, let me know and I"ll send you the form. It's also available on the AAT Yahoo Group under files. When done, send to Greg.

Then Greg or I will accompany your group on that trail to do a Trail Maintenance Plan. This shows in detail exactly what work is needed and by agreement when that work is to be completed. Some of the work may well be done on that run.

After that, you can schedule your following AAT runs when you like providing you do at least two per year under the present guidelines. So you'll know, we're contemplating changing that to a minimum of 100 hours work on your trail each year. Hours include commuting time now, so this isn't a really hard goal to achieve: six people with 9 hours per day, times two days does the job.

I hope this gives you the info you wanted; if not let me know. We'll look forward to getting together with you.

Ted

I am working on getting a copy of the volunteer agreement, and when I do will fill it out and post its contents here as well.

Then the next step is picking a weekend day to head up with Ted and Greg to check out 2N02 and perform our first round of maintenance.  The hours would be pretty easy to achieve with a group the size of who has already volunteered from the club.

Just want to say this is great, and I can't thank enough the members that have volunteered to participate already.

A great way for SCCX to give back to a trail that we use at least twice a year!

Okay folks, we have secured trail 2N02 for SCCX.

 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I am working on dates to see when we can develop a trail maintenance plan with Greg Hoffman in the next few weeks.  We have 10 miles of trail, from Baldwin Lake to Vaughan Springs, which is the NFS boundary.

Looks like we have tentatively adopted SBNF Trail 2N02!

This is great news!

I spoke with both Greg Hoffman and Ted Kalil, who are the coordinators for the AAT Program, and the three of us are working on a date when a group of SCCX members can meet with them on the trail for a tour to set up the maintenance plan for 2013.

Please stay tuned!
