A Sunday Drive (in the Xterra of course)

I decided a Sunday drive was in order, so I hopped in the Xterra and took off.  First stop was the top of Los Pinos Mtn, just off the Corral Canyon OHV Area in eastern San Diego County.  There is a one-lane paved road that runs up to the fire lookout, but the gate at the top was locked, and the mountain top was completely in the clouds. Very different from the last time we were here, in 100F heat the day before the Horse Fire started.

On the way up.

Not much of a view from the top.

Next up was Corral Canyon Road, which runs along the perimeter of the OHV Area. Corral Canyon was badly burned a few years ago in the Horse Fire.  It's reopened now, but you can still see signs of the fire damage, especially the charred manzanitas.

Corral Canyon Road is in pretty good shape, just a bit of erosion here and there.

Next stop was the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum, in Campo. Lots to see and do here, including an hour or so long train ride. The passenger cars for today's ride looked to be from the 1920's, the engine was much newer.

Today's ride went from Campo southwest to the Mexican border (actually, we stopped in a tunnel about 100 feet from the line, then reversed direction).

There are several other trains on display at the museum, both on tracks and in a large display barn.

Seems fitting to finish up with a caboose.
