Winch question
« on: June 27, 2013, 02:43:53 AM »
So in mulling over the whole bumper question, for those of you who got the ARB or the Shrockworks, did you order a winch with your bumper or get one after the fact?

I'm leaning hard toward the Shrock, but if I do front and rear, that's about 2300 clams there just for the bumpers (with the rear tire carrier and high lift jack options).  Add on the winch etc... ??

I installed the winch after the fact.   The only thing you have to make sure you plan for is that the coilover spring rate is high enough to handle the combined weight of the bumper and winch.  I would suggest at least a 650# spring for a rig that has both installed.

The springs that Greg sent me with the kit is supposed to be 600#+, will that be adequate for a shrock + winch in say, 4-5ish months?

Hey John, if you got Shrock and decide you like ARB better, we can trade bumpers!  Those 600's should hold up, I still don't have a winch yet, so I can't speak for this other then having the ARB bumper on mine.

My 600lbs were struggling with my bumper alone. I switched to 650's when I added the winch. You could always preload the coil over to account for sag, but you'll be making the ride quality pretty rough.
Every bumper is different, results may vary.

Are you running the Shrock and is changing out the springs a big deal?

It's not a huge deal, you just have to go somewhere where they have a legit spring compressor. I wouldn't try doing it with the crappy spring compressors you can rent or get at harbor freight. It can be dangerous without the right tools.

A real spring compressor can be found at most real shops.
