A D I O and Holy Jim
« on: July 29, 2013, 01:39:57 PM »
Hey

So, I was in Holy Jim on Sat night....took that trail on the left side as you drive in...the one with the car imbedded on the hill.

Did I read somewhere that you took that trail to it's end?

I made it up to the summit and started descending down the other side, but the trail got so narrow I had to actually stop, reverse in 4lo about 50yds to a point where my friend helped me as I did a 583 point turn around....then bailed.

I can't imagine any 4 wheel vehicle making the section we stopped at....there were sketchy parts on the way up and even as we were descending....but the loose dirt and the narrow size of the turn made it nearly impassable...and I was thinking maybe the weather eroded it or ate it up to where it's not do-able now, even tho you did it not that long ago...

Ya?  Nay?  Durr?

Yeah I had to get turned around after a really narrow ledge that gave me maybe 3-4 inches of tire space from the edge of a cliff, but a little further up the trail completely falls off into the canyon and you can only pass it on foot or bike.

Also I don't know if you noticed, but the part we both got turned around at seems like no one ever takes it... Probably because it's impassable in any vehicle.

K...whew

I was a little annoyed that I thought you had taken it to the end....I had a few moments where I felt my truck listing downhill in places where I had maybe 5-8in of space.....not a good feeling at all.

FYI....reverse in 4lo up a decent grade on loose dirt....NOT A GOOD IDEA.  ugh.

Going downhill was way sketchier than going up for me, I was 3 wheeling hard some of the time and other times my lines were a little questionable, or maybe it was just tire placement because I'd sometimes start to slide... but I made it down without tipping over and learned the importance of tire placement soooo... it wasn't a total failure.

Yeah, I had a friend sitting shotgun, so his head was out the window all the way down giving me inches in clearance and what to expect....but when I had to back up the hill he jumped out to help me while on foot....

lesson being; IT'S ALL JOHN'S (GHOSTX) FAULT.  BLAME EVERYTHING ON HIM.

Damn you John....damn you.

Yeah I had my friend doing the same thing! I got pitched sideways over a rock ledge and had him get out so he could carefully spot me as i back up down from the rock ledge and take another route up. I was a little nervous of tipping ahaha.

There were 2 specific times when I felt her start to slide....once coming down and once backing up...that's not a good feeling to have when in control of a 5ton behemoth who's momentum has started to turn against you....

But...PULLED IT!!!

WHEW!

Yeah man that trail was sketchy ahaha I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so. I think the most nerve wracking moment I had was driving so close to the edge of a massive cliff.
