So Randy and I had a blast changing out BikerCage's clutch last sunday. heres some pictures from our 10 hr clutch swap, pretty good for us as neither of us have done an xterra clutch before.
Setting up getting ready for the job at hand
The Great Clutch Swap
Brand new shiny parts from JWT, new one piece flywheel thats half the weight of the stock piece. clutch disk is both larger in diameter and has a wider friction surface for more bite. JWT modified stock pressure plate for more clamping force with a lighter pedal.
The Great Clutch Swap
Jacking up the truck, we put the rear up as high as possible, this makes it easier to tilt the transmission down without hitting the ground.
The Great Clutch Swap
Pulling out the exhaust and driveshaft.
The Great Clutch Swap
The pile of parts that had to be removed before removing the transmission. catback exhaust, B pipes, passenger side cat, front and rear driveshaft, k brace, and fender liner to access the cat. Randy and I both brought air compressors so we had 2 airlines, making quick work of most of the removal.
The Great Clutch Swap
Getting the transmission jack in place, ready to start dropping it. This definetly wouldnt have been an easy job without this tool.
The Great Clutch Swap
Randy tilting the engine back to allow us to pull the transmission out.
The Great Clutch Swap
There she is, isn't she pretty?
The Great Clutch Swap
Randy removing the old clutch and flywheel. He was getting rained on by large chunks of clutch dust that had built up inside the pressure plate. Notice randys coolant jug pillow.
The Great Clutch Swap
The Carnage.
The Great Clutch Swap
The stock 2 piece flywheel with 2 nice grooves from the rivets on the clutch disk, the flywheel had lots of play between the 2 pieces as well.
The Great Clutch Swap
The old worn clutch and pressure plate, not much friction matterial left, very close to the rivets on the pressure plate side.
The Great Clutch Swap
Old Clutch is out, time for lunch. yum yum
The Great Clutch Swap
The install was a breeze and we got the transmission in with no problems, i had to run by nissan on monday to pick up 5 qts of manual trans fluid and 3 qts matic D for the transfer case, got the oil installed on wed, and took it for a drive after jump starting the truck, the battery had been drained from accessories left plugged in to the 12v port so a charger was needed to bring the battery back up. all in all, a good day.
