"RubiGONE" Rubicon Summer of 2014 SEPT 5-6 (one-way)
« on: February 08, 2014, 11:27:40 PM »
If you are thinking about doing this:

Who: Xterra owners
What: your rig ready for the trail, i.e. 35's , Rear Locker, Winch, recovery gear, some trail spares, etc..(see details in this thread)
When: summer of 2014 (SEPT 5-6) over-nite at the springs with Jeff Arabia of Arabias overkill
Where: Rubicon trail Northern California ( see links)
Why: Because you can......
How much? ......I will figure an amount to cover the cost of what it will take to pull the event off and not a cent more.

I have a date now from Jeff Arabia who has volunteered to be the trail leader for this run. He has been doing this trail for years and has contacts with private property owners where we can over night at the springs. and drive out in the morning. More details to follow.

I have also thought about and additional trail to run after this one that will be easier to serve as a follow-on for people coming from a greater distance that may want to run and additional trail.

I will also invite Greg of PRG products. and let you know if he can make this run.

Step up and be counted.!!!

"RubiGONE" Rubicon Summer of 2014 SEPT 5-6 (one-way)

Required gear/ mods/ tires/ clearance/ lockers/ ......

Talked with Jeff this afternoon.
he is in as a trail leader. his rig is here....

http://www.arabiasoverkill.com/

DriveTrain Requirements for this Rubicon run(summer 2014)
:
35's,............... rear locked,.................. tow points front and rear,............... winch,

33's................. front and rear locked,.... tow points front and rear,............... winch,

gearing discussion:
35's should be on 4:10 or 4:56
33's should be on 3:69 or 3:13
Do I need to say skids and sliders?

PM me if you disagree and plan on attending and not just busting my balls.

Jeff is also talking about lining up logistic support, where to overnight( he knows some local land owners)(where to do maintenance, he'll probably bring his overkill mechanics)
There is a marketing opportunity here. and sponsors will be welcomed. I'll be reaching out to potential sponsors. if you see yourself doing this run and can offer time or services, they will be welcomed.

I would like to avoid turning this into a " can my rig make it thread" or "will my exception" be OK.

Please PM me with any further questions. I can tell you right now I made those requirements with alot of thought about, movement on the trail(there are others besides us), breakdowns, parts, welding resources, reading abut other Rubicon events, etc...

people that breakdown often spend the night on the trail and not the camping areas.
they often ( very often) require help and time from other participants that came on the trail. too often people must leave the trail try to go into town procure parts and get them back to the trail.

This is a class 10 trail.

Got off the phone with Greg at PRG. He is in for the September 5th and 6th Rubicon run.

So I will have Jeff Arabia leading Hopefully Greg as tail gunner and myself at middle.

Jeff plans to speak with his friends that own the Rubicon springs property and we should be able to overnight there and have a good evening of drinks and BBQ. As well as space to work on your rig should you need to do so.

We love you Chris...I'll be the first to admit that the Rubicon is a level above my rigs capabilities.  Also with the possible new job on the line, not sure what my schedule/vacation constraints will be for the rest of 2014...have a blast and text me lots of pictures!

Is this trip still on the table? as I'm certainly interested. I have a buddy at work who has a built up Jeep and has run it a few times. He's interested as well if you are opening it up to other vehicles than the X's.

I would like to see turn out for Nissan's and then see what is left for availability.

I also would like to keep it as Nissan family as possible for logistical and support reasons as well.
We know most of the people on this board and the other Xterra boards.

I would prefer that there is not an overwhelming amount of jeeps since they have 4 or 5 week long events throughout the year on the Rubicon.
This is kindof a first event for Nissans on the Rubicon.

with that said I hope you and your well equipped Xterra can make it. :)

Cheers

Sounds good, I'll let him know about the situation and I'm sure he will understand. Either way I'm definately interested in going on this trip.

I am from Georgetown and know a lot of people in the area.  If you want to stay there a night before and or need some tips for the area.  My parents live off Wentworth Springs.  PM Me and i can hook you up.  I know guys that run those woods and the rubicon every year.

*Edit*

Also if you guys do this make sure to stop by Uncle Toms Cabin on the way up.

I did not start out to make this a sausage-fest.
Girlfriends and wives or SO's are welcome.

no one has signed up yet with children, however that does not preclude bringing your own kids.
even with adults I don't usually think of a drunkfest unless it's GoneMoab where people take their vacations(my opinion).

It is currently weighted with adults and will probably have more adult topics(and beverages) around a campfire at the Rubicon springs.

Hope that helps

Spot on, I'm in and my wife will be riding shotgun

James...you and Lauren will love this run, and after meeting you/seeing your rig in Big Bear, it is set up perfectly to run the Rubicon. Have fun...ChrisHaynesUSA is as good as it gets. ;)

John, she's not very excited. I had to bribe her with a few extra days at Lake Tahoe.

Not a bad strategy...hopefully she will feel better when she sees the lakes and water around Rubicon Springs.
