A little moderate wheeling morning of the 4th of July
« on: June 30, 2014, 05:59:51 PM »
Hey all,

My daughter has coerced me ;) into taking her out for some intermediate wheeling (She thinks she is going to drive  ;) ) on the 4th of July in Big Bear.

My plan.   Getting an early start maybe 0900 and running down 3N61 (Jacoby Canyon) and back up, then running Little John Bull 3N02/3N10 (fun upper moderate wheeling).  Everybody can catch a glimpse of "The Gatekeeper", then down 3N32, and done.  Finish approximately 1PM.

Fun intermediate wheeling.  Come join us.

Finalized plans:
I will be pulling out of the Discovery Center at 0900 so plan on being there.   We will meet people coming up the back side at the trailhead (Dump) at 0915.  Air down at the Jacoby trailhead and head out from there.

I'm interested. That 1pm end time makes this really tempting.

I know there are all kinds of things going on that day,  so an easy wheeling morning was what I was thinking.

Anyone looking to camp up there?  I'll bet all of the improved campgrounds are booked, but maybe a yellowpost?

Or if anyone is already booked up there, I would LOVE to crash your site!  Just a guy and his xterra :D

I'm assuming you want to be at the trail head at 0900, correct?
We'll probably take the back side up. I'll have my wife and daughter with me.

I'm thinking of rock climbing and camping the night before. We have a lot going on though.

Sounds like a plan.

I won't be able to camp, but I think this will be a great day trip.

Bad news, I'm out.

My check engine light came on today and my X won't go into overdrive. I'll probably be turning wrenches tomorrow.

Terry, one of these days we will wheel together in Big Bear.

Well it was a great morning wheeling on this 4th of July.

I was joined by LupinOne(John), CaWoody(Tim) and KnightRider(Jordan).  We played on the "Rock" in both directions on Jacoby Canyon.   Then when everybody (including my daughter) felt real comfortable.  We all took on "Little John Bull" (Roughly the first quarter of the John Bull Trail up to the gatekeeper).  Everybody did fantastic (Tim once he found 4 Lo  :D) and Jordan once he figured out his rig needs a clutch job Ahem  ;))  But really it was a great morning.   We were through by 1230 and except for Tim and his truck's refusal to come out of 4Lo (I heard it finally came out down the road  ;D Thank God.  BTW I couldn't catch up with you  We should talk about the time I drove out of BB with no power steering).

Hopefully our folks got some photos.  I was going to try real hard to do it but kind of forgot.   A lot of times jumping out of the truck without the camera  :-[

Thanks everybody for joining me and hope the rest of your day was a crazed and fun as mine.
