Bradshaw Trail - Feb 28th-Mar 1st **Completed**

Looks like enough interest is there..let's do this.

What:  Bradshaw Trail Xcursion - approx. 75 mile overland trip with one night camping in primitive wilderness.  Easy to moderate terrain.  Run this west to east, start just east of Indio, terminus somewhere near Blythe.

When:  Saturday, February 28th and Sunday, March 1st, 2015.

Why:  because it's there and it's cool.

Comms:  CB radio , CH 17 and ham radio simplex 146.535

No FRS...sorry kids.

From what I have read, easily done with a stock 4x4.

Scenic, camping, family friendly, fun, etc.  Very relaxed run, simple off-roading.

More specific trail information available in this book:

California Trails - South Coast Region - Peter Massey/Jeanne Wilson/Angela Titus  pp 217-225, Trail #45 South Coast Region

Update 11/16:

Go To List:

1.  0317
2.  knightrider
3.  Celt
4.  JFanaselle +1
5.  Toro
6.  xxSVxx
7.  glamisdude72000
8.  Steve C.
9.  Pyrofox79
10. FBinSD
11.  SoCalXTerry

I've done a little preliminary research, and it appears there are no permits needed for groups >25...so, barring a record turn out (think Rattlesnake Canyon 2011), we should be good.

Weather will be cold in the evening, we will plan firewood accordingly.  Daytime temps should be desert nice (60's), with just enough sun to pink up the winter skins...pack sunscreen for sure.

This trip seems similar to the annual Mojave Road run, just less in mileage and days camped.  My thought is make this a simple one nighter for folks, and go from there.  There are several videos on YouTube that show sections of the trail (mostly graded fire road, with a few wash runs, wash outs, and minimal rocks, stock friendly) so hit up the internets for your own visual confirmation of rig capability.

And yes Virginia, there are geocaches on the trail, so I will pick a couple for those of us who play the game, nothing too patientce trying for those of you who haven't cached in the past.

Family friendly trip for sure, so if it coincides with a Presidents Holiday or early Spring Break, bring the kid-o's.

GhostX... If there is room Celt's Dad wants to go now as well. He drives a Jeep so we can have lot's of fun poking fun of him. Well maybe not too much fun because he's the one directly responsible for supplying firewood.

Added Erik.

This is a no rig limit run, and all makes are welcome.

Just make sure he has a tuned CB installed so he can keep up with all the fun chatter.

Please thank him from all of us for the firewood contribution. :)

Okay folks...a little personal update on The Bradshaw Trail trip scheduled for late Feb-Mar first.

If you are interested in a little treasure hunting...that could formulate into a life long addiction passion...check out this quick vid that explains a little about the game:

VIDEO LINKY>>>What is geocaching?

Geocaching:  pronounced "geo-cashing"

Geocaching wiki:  Wiki - Geocaching

If you have kids...great!  They will love this excellent excuse to get outside and use multimillion dollar technology to find Tupperware in the desert!

Or...like me...if you are a kid at heart and enjoy the journey to previously undiscovered places, with a little ammo can stuffed with a log book and some fun swag...plus possess a competitive spirit (yes, there is a culture of # of finds...)...then geocaching might be for you.

It also dovetails well with the off road spirit of getting out to desolate places and seeing cool stuff.

LMK if you have any questions, and as previously stated, we will cache a little on the trip so as to not upset any muggles (non-cachers) with the excitement of finding a box full of dollar store stuff in the desert.  :)

I bought a Garmin 60csx a few years ago with the intention of geocaching.  Never went geocaching.

I'd love to be taught by experts!

On a separate note, is anyone planning on getting out in that area Friday and camping?  I've already got that Friday off.
John, are there any places to camp near the start of the trail?

I'm not sure...Daphne and I are considering camping at Palm Canyon in ABDSP the night before.

I'm thinking about doing the usual go out into the desert and find a secluded wash, start fire, sit back and relax the night before. Isn't Palm Canyon the RV resort in Borrego?
