Topic: Almost time for new tires...

I am looking at using the stock 15" wheels that I have sitting in the backyard. I am looking at either 32x11.5x15 BFG KM2 or doing a body lift and getting Goodyear Duratrac 33x12.5x15.

A little about my rig first. I have done the PML and looking at adding Bilstein shocks soon and the cam bolts to adjust the positive camber in the front.

I can get both from 4wheelparts.com for a great price and installed for all less then 900. But I am concerned about adding the body lift for the 33's. Is spending the $70 for the DIY kit worth the extra inch in tire size?

My next concern is tire noise. I don't want to go with a dedicated mud tire due to road noise. But my buddy Car_Jeep has the BFG KM2 on his Frontier and they are fairly quiet for what they are. My father in law has the Duratracs and they are quite as well. So I am up in the air on both really.

Submitted my vote for the Duratracs. I absolutely LOVE mine - by far the best all around tires I've ever owned. They do great on the highway and are not that noisy at all, but are as sure footed as a mountain goat on sand, dirt, mud and snow.

You may recall that we got a freak snowstorm up here in the Inland Empire right before New Year's Eve, and I spent the entire evening/night driving around filming the storm for the local TV news. There was over 8 inches that fell in Wildomar and closer to 10 inches that fell in a hilly area known as La Cresta. I was running circles around every single other stuck vehicle, including tow trucks and fire engines. Never even broke a wheel loose for a split second.

I am really leaning towards the Goodyears. I told my wife about them and told her they are the same tires her dad has. She likes them as they are quite. I just need to save money for the body lift.

I should be able to get away with a 2" BL to fit the 33's?

I 2nd km2's, love them and they are the quietest mud terrain available.

Vote for the new KO2's...very quiet with new siping for better wet/snow performance.

My vote for DuraTrac, they are road quiet and I fit 285/75/R16 (33's) no lift (yet) just a little MeltMod on front wheel well

Get some info on Cooper Discoverer STT's

That's what I run on my rig. When I was working for the Zipline tour, we used them on our vans after we destroyed some KM2's and Duratracs. The Coopers where the only tires that held up to the demands of our mountain roads. Duratracs are the best for snow, but they are pretty soft and can take a beating on rocky desert roads.

Terry and Danny both have experience with the Coopers also. (The same set as a matter of fact.)

They can provide some insight too.

I am aware of these tires. A good friend from the Northwest Xterra Club runs them on his 2nd Gen and really likes them. He did mention them a lot and praised them when it came to the snow and occasional mud that we dealt with while off roading up in the NW.

I'll look into them as well. I really like doing research on stuff before buying something as well as reading other Xterra owners opinions on things.
