MOJAVE ROAD FOOD CORPS
« on: April 10, 2015, 03:33:56 PM »
HEY!

Ok, so I have taken it upon myself to organize the food aspect of forthcoming trip...

Group meals are organized chronologically and Sunday morning has yet to be decided as to what will be served.

We have A FEW GAPS where we need people to step up and contribute.

This list is just ripped off the original TMR post with some added bullet points to make sure we all eat like champs.

Areas of need from what I can tell are:

breakfast and dinner saturday night.....GhostX is doing pancakes in the AM and pasta in the PM, but not much going on outside of that....we need at least 1 more breakfast entree and hopefully 2 more dinner artisans as well.  Breakfast Sunday morning will need attention too....Imma try to bring donuts, but I can't guarantee they'll last with John around ;)

Last count was 10 rigs; average 2 people per truck and we're looking at roughly 20 people.  That's a decent group.  Please bring enough to feed 10-12 when you volunteer.

Thanks for taking the lead on this, Christiaan.

Because of my current jihad on fat I won't be able to partake in the food festivities, BUT I can still contribute.
I will definitely be bringing the Camp Chef two burner stove, large griddle and propane.

For Saturday, I can bring fajita onions and bell peppers.

I will talk with my codawg and see what he wants to contribute.

Is it possible to make garlic bread (or something like it) on a griddle?

Please advise if there are any other items to consider.

That's awesome Christiaan.
Can you put our names down next to what we are bringing?

I have done some of those frozen galic bread loaves in the campfire before. They came out half descent.
Just wrap them in descent tin foil and toss them in.

Jayrat mentioned he'll be bringing beef stew.
Maybe we can add him for night 2.

I have 8 pounds of bacon already purchased - 4 lbs of applewood smoked and 4 lbs of pecan wood smoked. The plan was to have LOTS of bacon for Saturday morning but we can split that into two days worth of breakfast if we're planning a group breakfast for Sunday morning.

I'll have my new two burner stove for the pasta and pancakes.

Can someone bring...sausage? ;)

And X2 on taking the lead on this Christiaan.

Nilda and I will bring the sausage!  We will bring eggs for french toast and or just eggs.  We will have our griddle going for breakfast both days.  If you want me to burn somethin' in the mornings just throw it on.

I'm also contributing 3lbs of carne asada for Sat night but Toro is transporting it. I'm thinking Sat/Sun dinners will be amazing and really look forward to them. I'm also bringing a bunch of peppers/onions for the fajita mix to fry up. Just a thought that since Sunday AM is the last day how about everyone being responsible for their own vittles? Instead of putting pressure on folks to come up with something they can bring whatever they like and not have to worry about a big production. I like big group potluck feeds but with larger groups it has been my experience that towards the end, things tend to start getting a little fragmented. Folks want to make a really nice meal for the others and it can become stressful trying to please everyone. Most will have their minds on getting everything packed up and moving along to get home and the last thing they want to do is cook for a large group. Maybe I'm a little different but on the trips I don't eat much and normally prefer a piece of bread, cheese and salami for breakfast, lunch.

Ummmmmm, you are going to camp right next to me right? That way you don't have far to go to put that bacon into the Dutch oven that will gladly be within stumbling distances from your camp to mine. I'm having thoughts about a ton of bacon, with lots of peppers and some eggs tossed in at the last minute and some corn tortillas over the lid of the oven,,,,hhhmmmmm

I don't mind doing my own thing for breakfast Sunday morning. I thought that was the original plan anyway, and might make things easier on everyone. Plus, then we can still have tons of bacon on Saturday morning.  ;D

D'oh, my mistake. You are right everyone is on their own Sunday. That being said, I have that large Dutch oven that juuust loves bacon and if said bacon has no home......

I should add that, while I am bringing all of this bacon, I don't have a way to cook that much. I have a small stove and a small griddle that can cook a few pieces at a time, but it would take all day to cook this much. If I'm counting right, it sounds like we'll have three campchef stoves and griddles (Steve C, Duffman and TacoTuesday), so if someone doesn't mind designating one of those as the bacon cooker, that'd be great.
