Put me on that unofficial list for now as well.
If you're looking to mix things up a bit, I've been doing a ton of research on the entire Mojave Preserve over the past few weeks and have found some pretty awesome spots to go check out. The only one that is remotely close to the Mojave road is the abandoned open-pit cinder mine that the FJ club was headed to after the Lava Tubes last time. Based on what I've seen, it's definately worth going to!
There is also another awesome area just outside of Cima known as the Death Valley Mine and Dawson's Camp. It was in operation as recently as the 40s and 50s, and seems to be still very intact with several buildings, a large metal headframe over the mine shaft, and abandoned trucks and equipment all around the site. This would be about a 20 or 30 minute drive from the Camp Mojave site we stayed at on the second night last time (the fireworks spot). Could make for a nice first stop on the second day if you planning on camping at that same spot on the first night.
I was actually thinking about doing one last quick trip out there before the weather gets too hot this year. I was thinking about the weekend after Mother's day, because there'll be no moon again and it'll make for some wicked night photography again, but that date is rapidly approaching so It might have to be a weekend or two later. I wanted to make it a short two-day trip with one night out there, and I've even put together a little agenda of the places I want to see and might have found a nice camping spot. I would come in to the preserve off of Kellbaker Road from Baker and wouldn't hit dirt until well into the middle of the preserve (just for time's sake). I haven't posted anything about it yet, because I was waiting to gauge some interest at the mod day at Duff Man's house next weekend. It'll be more of a destination-oriented trip, with the goal of hitting up as many of these amazing historic sites as possible.
