Alex that is funny, haven't seen that in a long time. Jayrat has already kindly volunteered to herd cats for me and JF for Sage Bromax's conga line. Where you could be very useful is being a mid-gunner for either of us.

Whoops... my bad. I thought we were still saying "Jan or Feb." My mistake. I'll ask my employer now. :)

JF, if you show in Feb it might be pretty lonely and we would for sure have to Channel 18 you for the slight.

I'm still in.  So how crazy would or be to run Mojave Rd. on OEM Long Trails?

As long as you air down pretty good and avoid deep mud you should come through ok. Much of the run is pretty hard pack dirt road. Just have to be aware of any potential sticky spots with winter conditions but that's why we have radios to get that info around. If you have front and rear recovery points that would be helpful. On the last trip I ran the whole length in 2wd without any issue at all.

Status update: I got the permit approved and signed it but have to send it back to them to get one of their approving signatures on it. Then they send it back to me and I will have the permit. They only allotted me 12 vehicles so I requested the maximum amount of 15 be amended into it. I thought the military had the inefficiency block cornered and check but ohhh no.

You can get as silly as you want with a radio, but here's a great write up by Mr. Bills on TNX
Poor Man's Ham Radio < $100

Realistically, you can just buy one of these and be ready to TX for $25.19

Additionally, used gear is always a great way to go.  If you're not looking for anything too fancy, a 2m/70cm radio is a 2m/70cm radio.
Possible sources for used gear include Craigslist, ham forums, ham stores (some do consignment) etc.

Same station I have, I've been nothing but impressed with it. Knightrider and Jayrat both helped me install it a few food truck Thursdays ago. If you get a programming CD it will really make life a lot easier for you. I think I paid about $130 for the radio itself and all things considered, think it was probably the best bang for the buck I could have got. Good luck on getting the ticket!

I have put together a Comms plan with simplex and repeater frequencies.  Once I confirm some of these repeaters are still operational, I will email an Excel and CSV file to everyone so that you can program your radios.  It will look something like this, but with better formatting:

Thanks for setting that up it's much appreciated! Those frequencies will ensure both groups can talk without stepping on each other and we have outside communication in case we need some help. This week I'm going to check around and see if I can get a special rate at one of the casinos for everyone to stay in. As it gets closer I get more and more excited about this trip!
