I checked on availability today, Harrah's averages from $20-$30 per night. Since it's easy to get to and had restaurants etc, I thought about trying there first. What would really help me out is if I can get a preliminary head count so I can call them and see if I can get a group rate. The rates are pretty low anyway, but it's worth a try. A long hot shower and a change of clean clothes will be nice at the end of the trip.

Just FYI - during the last Mojave run in April, Jordan went through the trouble of looking into a group rate and it turned out to not be worth it. If you're seeing rates between $20 and $30 again, I would imagine it will be more of the same, even with a larger group. The decision last year was that it didn't make sense to secure the group rate to save $2, especially if it locked us all into a single room type when everyone had different needs:

ok sorry for the late post but i am getting the rooms at harrahs setup, the rate offered was $25 for the North Tower Classic Double Queen Room.
this rate is for single/double occupancy and not including 12% clark county room tax and $7.50 Resort Fee, more than 2 people is $10 extra a person with a max of 4 people per room(if you choose to tell them you have more than 2 is up to you).  total with tax and fee is around $36.

looking at the website, the same room is available for $26.99 a night so the savings here is very minimal. due to the minimal savings im going to just skip the group rate and tell everyone to just book your hotel through the website as normal.  the total for the same room without the group rate is $38.63, other rooms are available and are priced from $22.49 for a single king.

this will allow everyone flexibility to book the room that best meets your needs(loners want a single king, families probably want double queen)  also if anyone wants to share rooms, the prices are for double occupancy.

JF, I agree with what you are saying and I think it's probably 100% on the mark. I figured I could see if they would work a deal that's accommodating to people but if the general consensus is to book your own rooms I'm all for it. It actually makes it a little easier on me. One of the angles I'm coming at is availability. Not sure if those places fill up in the winter or not and wanted to try and make sure everyone can get a room in the same hotel if they wanted to.

You still have plenty of time to study for your ticket. Believe me when I say if I can pass that test you can too. I know a lot of us push the HAM radios but the communication with them is light years ahead of what a CB is capable of.

So I might have missed it, but is the plan to meet up morning of the 15th?
Just need to know if I should request that day off since I usually get off at 2pm.

Something big enough that we could heat enough hot chocolate for 30 or so people.

Just bought a 8 Qt Stock Pot.  It should do the trick.....

Yes, the morning of the 15th we well depart. I believe many will show up sometime through the afternoon, early evening of the 14th and camp so they can get a good nights rest before starting out.

If you wouldn't mind using it for the cause, I will provide everything else.

    Thanks much!

On a gooder note for everyone involved, the permit is in my hands for 15 trucks and 30 people.

Eric, Joe is correct aboot harrahs, when the rates are that low, the group rate is not much better.

The group rate does allow for them to estimate how many rooms you will need, and they also try to get everybody on the same floor/tower if everyone books the same type of room.

They have nicer rooms that cost more and sometimes what they will do is give you the nicer rooms, for the cost of the basic room, so while it doesnt seem like your  saving much money, you are because of the nicer room.

Last Mojave they already had a couple groups on the same night so the deal was not that good and we didn't get a room upgrade so I didn't bother with the group rate, but its worth a shot.

For those camping on the 14th, it would be in Afton Canyon?
And those seem like some great prices for the night at Laughlin, group rate or not.

Yes, I thought Afton Canyon campground would be easy enough to get to for most of the people attending the night before even if they have to leave after work. It seems big enough and has minor facilities that can accommodate a group this large. It's also a good place to begin from where anyone that has to meet up in the morning can easily find it.
