Nice!  Those Action Packers are very handy.  They certainly help keep us organized.

Anybody else a little concerned about the amount of water that could be in certain places along the trail?

I am concern about the river crossing.

here is where it's in Dec before the rain

I would assume we will have to bypass the lake all together, afton canyon is going to be a soupy mess.

Thanks for Sharing,
it's amazing how fast some of them hit that water, I'm surprised nobody else stalled

The entire western portion of TMR is delicate/sketchy/dangerous when wet.

The two river crossings are fed by an under ground river and they surface twice along our route. While it's a little unnerving doing any water crossing that's about how deep the water was the last Toro led run as my memory serves. The rivers are crossable but as you saw in those videos you have to go very slow to ensure you don't stall or flood your engine which would be bad. Since I began organizing this trip, I have attempted to let people know this is a winter run and yes things may very well be a soupy mess. I will not knowingly put anyone in a dangerous situation along this run but the drivers and vehicles mettle may be tested. I have been keeping a sharp eye on conditions and because things can change in minutes out there Soda Lake may have to be bypassed. As unfortunate as that may be I will not lead a group through that if it's a quagmire. This trip is going to be a lot of fun I believe and all I ask is everyone bring a positive attitude and be very patient and flexible as we have vehicles and driver's of varying capabilities and experience. Thanks for posting your concerns and I hope this helped to put your mind at ease!

As a side note, I just got off the phone with Kelso Depot. You know the one on the Mojave preserve website that you are supposed to call for Soda Lake conditions..... Well, they are of no help. The guy I spoke to said they had rain at the depot but didn't know if the lake got any or not. He said he doesn't know if it's drivable or not because nobody patrols it. Sooooo, I called the BLM local office. Gentleman I spoke with said it has rained out there but was unaware of any closures or advisals to not cross. I'll call back a day or two before the SP to get a updated report and see if we have to modify anything.

Thanks for checking Celt, I have done it in the rain before the only part I will not do again if it rain is soda lake and there is a bypass as you have already mention before. It will be lots of fun.

The plus side of rain is NO DUST!!!

I am going to keep an ear out for anyone heading out to Mohave road to get condition update and share anything I hear back on this site.

Thanks again for setting it up.

Roger that. Just wasn't sure what  the alternate routes are etc. I did the run in summer a year ago with toro but that's it. I'm snorkeled, winched up and doubt  we will need them but bringing all my recovery gear since these storms can pop up  get you out of nowhere. I trust you Celt and I am sure whatever gets thrown at us will be no prob considering the people and rigs we will have out there.

Obviously, I can't speak directly to the conditions on the Road, as I haven't been out there, but here are some general observations.  As I watched the storms move out of here this week, they moved pretty much directly west, towards the direction of Mojave Rd.  We have standing water everywhere up here and the ditches are full.  The most important part, though, is that the Roger's and Muroc lake beds both have a few feet of standing water and/or are mud pits right now.  If they got even remotely close to the same amount of rain as we did here, that lake will be a mess.

Noted, as I have mentioned this trip is flexible on the route because of weather but it is a winter trip and was planned for as such to be in the elements.

I'm happy to see the group is having a convo about the current conditions and possible alternatives.

My take-away from this convo is: (and correct me if I'm wrong)

1. Keep packing, the trip is still a "green light"
2. No need to panic just yet, we have alternative routes
3. No need to pre-wash Pepe, it's gonna be a fun mucky mess
