Kennedy Meadows area is nice, but it is definitely all camping.  I've also heard there are some good trails in Los Coyotes Indian Reservation, but I have no first-hand knowledge.

Well this should be fun.

Hopefully there won't be any campfire restrictions for Big Bear in October. (yellow posts)

Developed campgrounds like Hanna Flat do not typically have restrictions other than you keep it under control and in the provided ring.

I've worked up there when fires were not even allowed in developed sites. The current drought could get us to that level.

What about Johnson Valley, or Silverwood Lake. We can do Cleghorn and Pilot Rock but We're limited on lodging.

We could face fire restrictions no matter where we are.

My vote would be Big Bear.   You have everything in a mountain setting.   Runs for all levels.   With all the amenities.

Sounds good to me.  Will events start Friday morning (i.e. should I plan on coming up Thursday night)?  Just need to block the days off for work.

I'd say Thursday night arrival and 1st day of trails would Friday. So that way we can get 3 days of trail runs. Friday sat and sun. Leave Monday

All emenities will be difficult on a holiday weekend. Camp spots will be scarce and lodging will be more $$.
I vote a regular weekend. Trail on Sat morning, a twilight evening/night Sat run and a Sun Morn run.

Columbus Day is not a California State holiday.  Why would we celebrate the evil white European conqueror?  Instead, we take Cesar Chavez day on March 31st.

I've never been to Big Bear.  Checked on a map and it looks like only 5 hrs from phoenix and about 3:30 from Vegas, should be good for anyone interested in a long weekend.
