Camp Table Recommendations
« on: October 22, 2015, 09:14:07 AM »
With desert season rapidly approaching, I'm looking at ways to streamline my camping gear.  One piece of equipment that is always in the way when packing is the camp table.  I currently have one of the Wal-Mart 6' fold in half plastic deals.  While this table is robust and sturdy, it just doesn't pack away well.

I think I'm leaning towards a roll top style table.

Realistically, this tables purpose will mostly be as a prep/staging area for meals as I have the chuck box set up for the stove and the Camp Chef for more ambitious cheffing.

Most of the time, it's just myself and a passenger so a huge table isn't required.

Any solid recommendations would be appreciated.

Also, if you guys want to post up what you've got and your thoughts on it, this might be a great place for general camp table research.

I'm a big fan of the Table in a Bag.  I have a pretty small one, but it comes in handy for prep work and other small tasks.  I'm not sure what size you are looking at or how much weight these things will really hold, but they do stow nicely.

This is what we use: http://www.rei.com/product/848478/rei-camp-kitchen Pretty versatile for uneven ground and sturdy in winds. The downside is it is large-ish packing up but always seems to fit easily enough. Set up and take down are quick. You don't have to put up all the extras but they are handy because there is a table for the prep work or serving. A table for the cooking stove and a trash bag attachment. Has a lamp pole and some storage under for the things you might need.

REI FTW.

Which one, John?
I know Richard310 has an REI table that he seems happy with.

I'm a big fan of the Table in a Bag.

Thanks for the link!
I'm really liking this size of table.  The green is cool, too.

Yeah, the height on that one is good.  Mine only sits about 24" off the ground, not great for eating at or prepping if you are standing.

Which one, John?

We've had success with this one Steve...

Camp Table @ REI

Easy to pack, fits in the provided bag, sturdy when set up, aluminum top cleans easily,, and it's light weight.

I just whipped out the tape measure.  27" is NOT that tall... the photos make it look so much taller!

I'll need to set up my chair to see what it would be like sitting at the table.

Thanks for the links, guys.

Well, that picture was pretty deceptive.  They must have some short chairs sitting against it. ;D  Even the one John posted from REI is pretty short.

Thanks for the "real world" action shot!

You're probably right, that REI table would suit my needs well.  And, with REI's return policy, if I don't like it I can always bring it back.

I'll buzz down there today and see if they have any I can look at in person.
